In this episode, we sit down and share a drink with the amazing James France and Anthony Gunawan who are experts in all things…drinks.  James France, our expert professional for this episode. James is the founder and Managing Director at Vanguard Luxury Brands, an independent importer and distributor of coveted premium spirits. Prior to founding his own business, James had an extensive career in the beverage industry, working in marketing for some of the worlds’ most famous liquor brands. Beyond his incredibly successful career in Australian bar and beverage industry, James is an all round legend and great guy, and you’ll soon hear why he has been described as one of the most respected and likeable people in the industry. Anthony Gunawan, our incredible young professional, is the Bar Manager at Chaco Bar, one of Sydney’s best (if not the best) Omakase restaurants. Anthony has worked in hospitality since the age of 13, but found his passion in bartending where he has held multiple roles leading to his managerial position at Chaco. He is an expert in all kinds of Japanese drinks, from mixing to more recently producing his own bottled Yuzushu and Plum Wines.  In our chat we unpack the Australian Bar and Beverage industry and hone in on topics like what makes a great liquor brand, the dynamic between distributor and bar manager, what it means to be truly hospitable and generally what it takes to thrive in the industry. Leon has been showered with accolades during his highly coveted career including receiving the Lawyer of the Year Award in 2019. Leon is a partner at ABL (Arnold Bloch Leibler), and sits on various boards, committees and associations including his recent appointment as the Chairman of the Bradman Foundation. Nechama Bassarabie, our amazing young professional on this episode of the show currently works as an Adviser at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. In her first few years in law, Nechama has already gained wide ranging experience across the industry, volunteering in the community legal sector and working in commercial litigation and academic contexts. Previously, Mel held senior executive roles as the CEO of NRMA Investments, The CEO and founder of a financial services start up and as a Director of Deutsche Bank - among other roles.  Our talented young professional for this episode is Ryan McCourt. Ryan started his career working for UBS Australia full time, while simultaneously completing his undergraduate degree. Ryan then worked in their Multi-Asset investment committee based in Hong Kong.
