Reinvention After 50: Permission to Play and Blossom with Rebekah Fraser
2026/10/22
Reinvention After 50: Permission to Play and Blossom with Rebekah Fraser What if that creative idea you keep coming back to deserves a little room to grow? At 54, author and award-winning social entrepreneur Rebekah Fraser describes her latest chapter as “a full blossoming in progress.” Seeds planted decades ago are taking shape in unexpected ways, including a new understanding of herself as a creative leader. In this episode of Reinvention Rebels, we explore how she’s bringing people together through Trash to Fashion, the grassroots organization she founded in 2025. By turning discarded materials into wearable creations, participants experience environmental action through joy, play, and community. I attended one of Rebekah’s events myself. And despite an old story from my fourth-grade art class about not being good at art, I found myself creating, experimenting, and having fun. No perfect finished product required! Our conversation is an invitation to explore your creativity, welcome support, and give yourself permission to try something without knowing exactly how it will turn out. In this episode, we explore: 🌱 How experiences from decades ago can blossom into new possibilities in midlife. 🎨 Why creativity includes leadership, entrepreneurship, and making space for others. ✨ How play can help loosen old beliefs about what you’re good at. 💡 The encouragement that helped Rebekah revisit her idea after a rejected grant application. 🤝 How friends, mentors, and community help her keep betting on herself. 🧭 Why knowing your purpose and being willing to pivot can work together. 🦋 How accepting that something might fail can give you permission to begin. A little permission to begin Rebekah shares a simple starting point: notice how you feel when you think about your idea. Does it energize you? Does it spark excitement? That may be a reason to explore. You can seek thoughtful advice, gather support, and learn as you go. Your next chapter can take shape through the doing. How to Thrive in the In-Between: Finding Yourself in Midlife Between What Was and What Can Be
2026/10/08
How to Thrive in the In-Between: Finding Yourself in Midlife Between What Was and What Can Be You’ve made the decision. Taken the leap. Left something behind. But you don’t quite know what comes next. Welcome to the in-between. Sometimes scary. Often exhilarating. Never a dull moment. I would know. After moving to Philadelphia at 61, I’m discovering something unexpected: my outer life can still be taking shape while I feel settled within myself. There are boxes to unpack, routines to discover, and connections to nurture. And I don’t feel any urgency to figure it all out. In this solo episode of Reinvention Rebels, I explore midlife reinvention through the small, everyday experiences helping me discover my new chapter. From a meaningful neighborhood gallery visit to making plans with friends and finding out where I do, and don’t, want to buy a latte, curiosity is leading the way. These small experiments are reminding me that we can try things, change our minds, and trust what we learn. You don’t have to prove you chose correctly Have you ever made a big life change and then felt pressure to make everything that followed look fabulous? You chose yourself. Took the leap. Changed something. And now you feel like you’re supposed to create the perfect next chapter to prove it was all worth it. That’s a lot to carry. What if you gave yourself permission to experiment? To discover that something you thought you wanted doesn’t fit? Or to love something you never imagined trying? That isn’t failure. That’s information. That’s discernment. That’s self-trust. In this episode, we explore: 🌿 Finding calm within change: How you can feel grounded within yourself while life around you is still unsettled. 🔎 Following your curiosity: Exploring what interests you without needing every experience to lead somewhere profound. 💛 Building self-trust: Letting both the things you enjoy and the things you don’t teach you about yourself. 📐 Releasing the old blueprint: Putting down inherited expectations without immediately drawing a new life plan in permanent ink. 🤝 Making connections after 50: Acting on your interests, extending invitations, and allowing friendships to develop organically. ✨ Living your next chapter now: Giving yourself permission to enjoy life before everything is unpacked, organized, or figured out. What can be? Earlier on the podcast, I explored the blueprints we inherit about success, relationships, aging, and who we’re supposed to become. This episode takes that conversation a step further: once you put down someone else’s blueprint, you can give yourself time to discover what fits. A conversation. An invitation. A little experiment. Each can help you notice what brings you alive. There’s room for possibility in what can be, and you don’t need a complete picture before you begin. A reminder for your own in-between “I’m not trying to build my new life as quickly as possible. I’m letting myself discover it.” Whether you’re navigating retirement, a move, a career change, an empty nest, or a quieter shift you can’t yet name, your life is happening now. The in-between isn’t empty space. It’s life. This chapter counts, even while it’s unfolding. Try one little experiment Choose something that sparks your curiosity. Take one small step toward it, then notice how the experience feels. Would you like more of it? Would you try it differently? Or have you learned it’s simply not for you? You’re gathering information about the life you want to live. What Are You Afraid Of? Reinvention, Courage & Betting on Yourself at 65 with Lillian Taylor
2026/09/24
What if the thing standing between you and what's next isn't readiness, but simply the courage to begin? At 65, Lillian Taylor is creating a life that looks very different from the one she imagined years ago. For much of her life, Lillian did what so many women do. She tried to live up to other people's expectations, bought into the idea of perfection, and followed the path she thought she was supposed to follow. Then loss changed the questions she was asking. What makes me happy? What gives me purpose? What would make me feel fulfilled? The answers didn't arrive all at once. Reinvention became a long, gradual process of getting curious, trusting herself more, and taking small steps even when she wasn't sure where they would lead. One of those steps was writing a letter to actress Melissa Gilbert after learning about Modern Prairie, her online community for women navigating this chapter of life. Lillian assumed her note might land in a customer service inbox. Instead, it opened a door. That one act of courage eventually led to two years of facilitating conversations and creating content for Modern Prairie. And somewhere along the way, Lillian had another realization: It was time to create something of her own. Today she's the founder of Women With(out) Partners, a growing community helping women 50+ build meaningful connections and friendships, whether they have a partner or not. And she's taking that mission even further with Community Connection Circles, bringing women together in person. In this conversation, we talk about what it really looks like to build confidence while you're already moving, why Lillian still asks herself “What are you afraid of?”, and how taking one small step can create possibilities you never could have planned. In this episode, you'll hear about: 💔 Loss as a catalyst: How a season of profound loss in Lillian's early 50s prompted her to rethink happiness, purpose, and fulfillment 🌱 Reinvention as a process: Why her reinvention unfolded gradually rather than through one dramatic pivot ✉️ One brave letter: The letter to Melissa Gilbert that opened an unexpected door and changed what Lillian thought was possible 💪 Confidence through action: How Lillian learned to move forward before she felt completely confident 🤝 The power of connection: Why she created Women With(out) Partners and the need she saw for deeper connection among women 50+ ❤️ Finding your people: How community can support us as we navigate change, uncertainty, and new chapters 🪽 “What if I fly?”: Why imagining what could go right can be just as powerful as worrying about what could go wrong 👣 The power of baby steps: How small acts of courage help us build the self-trust to keep going Connect with Lillian Women With(out) Partners: https://www.facebook.com/groups/womenwithoutpartners Lillian on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/lillian.taylor.148/ Ready to take your own next small step? Reinvention at 50+: Who Nourishes the Woman You’re Becoming?
2026/09/10
Reinvention at 50+: Who Nourishes the Woman You’re Becoming? As we grow and reinvent ourselves, our relationships can change too. Sometimes they deepen. Sometimes they find a new rhythm. And sometimes we begin to recognize that a relationship that once felt completely natural no longer nourishes us in quite the same way. In this solo episode, Wendy explores what it means to pay attention to the people who make room for the woman you’re becoming. Not just the people who have known you the longest, but the ones who help you feel seen, energized, encouraged, and more fully yourself. Because reinvention after 50 doesn’t happen in a vacuum. As we become more aware of who we are and what we need, we may also begin to notice where we’ve been editing ourselves, making ourselves smaller, or holding back the tender new dreams we are only beginning to name. That’s where discernment comes in. In this episode, you’ll discover: 🌱 What a truly nourishing relationship can look and feel like 🧭 Why so many women are skilled at discerning what others need but struggle to recognize their own needs 💭 Questions that can help you notice how you feel in different relationships ⏳ Why discernment doesn’t always require immediate action 💛 How relationships in midlife can evolve with grace, even when nobody is wrong ✨ Why new people and communities can introduce us to new parts of ourselves This isn’t about creating a scorecard for your relationships or dramatically deleting people from your phone. It’s about listening, noticing, and getting curious about what your inner wisdom may already be telling you. You are allowed to change. Your needs are allowed to change. And your relationships are allowed to change too. So here’s the question: Who or what is nourishing the woman you are becoming now? What If You’re Not Starting Over, But Waking Up? Midlife Reinvention, Courage & Trust with Elizabeth Elfenbein
2026/08/27
What If You’re Not Starting Over, But Waking Up?Midlife Reinvention, Courage & Trust with Elizabeth Elfenbein What if the life you’ve worked so hard to build no longer feels like the life you’re meant to live? For Elizabeth Elfenbein, founder of Under the Sisterhood, reinvention didn’t begin with a perfectly mapped-out next chapter. It began with an unraveling. After decades of success in advertising, Elizabeth made the courageous decision to leave behind both a career and a marriage that had defined so much of her life. She describes it as jumping off the mountain without knowing where she would land. What followed wasn’t simply starting over. It was an awakening. In this powerful and deeply honest conversation, Elizabeth and I explore what happens when we stop looking outside ourselves for answers and begin listening to the voice within. We talk about uncertainty, courage, identity, trusting your gut, and why sometimes the things that unravel us create the space we need to discover who we are. Elizabeth also shares how her own desire to reclaim her voice became the spark for Under the Sisterhood, a global storytelling platform dedicated to ensuring that women’s lived experiences are seen, heard, valued, and documented. And now that mission is expanding in an exciting new way through the Under the Sisterhood documentary, which premiered this week in New York City. I had the incredible privilege of being part of the film and celebrating its premiere alongside Elizabeth and an inspiring community of women. ✨ In this episode, we explore: 🔥 The courage to leave what’s familiar — even when you have no idea what comes next 🌱 Unraveling as awakening — how losing an old identity can create space to discover who you really are 🎙️ Reclaiming your voice — and how Elizabeth’s own journey inspired her to help other women claim theirs 🧭 Learning to trust yourself — listening to your gut, noticing what feels off, and honoring what you know deep down 🌍 The power of women’s stories — and Elizabeth’s vision for documenting women’s lived experiences across ages, cultures, and backgrounds 🎬 Taking Under the Sisterhood to film — how the documentary came to life and what Elizabeth hopes it will spark in women everywhere 💫 Making peace with uncertainty — because you may not know what “okay” is going to look like...and that’s okay As Elizabeth reminds us: “Those roads less traveled are very interesting roads. You get to know who you are. You get to know your capacity.” Maybe reinvention isn’t always about becoming someone new. Maybe it’s about waking up to who you are now. 🎧 Press play and join us for a conversation about midlife reinvention, courage, self-trust, women’s voices, and the extraordinary possibilities waiting on the other side of uncertainty. 💜 Connect with Elizabeth Elfenbein Want to learn more about Elizabeth and the work she’s creating to amplify and preserve women’s lived experiences? 🎙️ Under the Sisterhood podcast 🌐 Under the Sisterhood website 📱 Instagram: @underthesisterhood 💼 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/elizabethelfenbein/ 🎬 Under the Sisterhood documentary: https://www.underthesisterhood.com/docuart-tour ✨ Ready to Get Curious About YOUR Next Chapter? New Friends, New Possibilities: Who We Become Through Friendship After 50 with Stacey Tessa K. Battat
2026/08/13
New Friends, New Possibilities: Who We Become Through Friendship After 50 with Stacey Tessa K. Battat What if some of the most meaningful friendships of your life are still ahead of you? After 50, so much can change. Kids leave home. Careers shift. Relationships evolve. Our priorities change. And sometimes, the friendships that once fit perfectly no longer fit the women we’re becoming. But what if these transitions aren’t simply endings? What if they’re invitations to open new doors? In this episode of Reinvention Rebels, Wendy sits down with Stacey Tessa K. Battat, author of The Five Doors of Friendship and co-host of The Open Nesters podcast, for a joyful and thought-provoking conversation about friendship after 50, reinvention, and the people who help us discover new possibilities in ourselves. When her children began leaving home, Tessa rejected the idea of becoming an “empty nester.” Instead, she embraced being an open nester, choosing to see this new stage of life through a lens of curiosity and possibility. And friendship became a powerful part of that opening. Tessa shares how new friends can become unexpected mirrors, introducing us to parts of ourselves we may not have discovered otherwise. She also gets real about the other side of friendship: recognizing when relationships no longer fit and giving ourselves permission to let go. In this episode, Wendy and Tessa explore: 🌱 Transitions as opportunities and how changing the way we view a life shift can open us to possibilities we never expected. 💗 The “romance” of new friendship and the bubbly excitement, inspiration, and energy that can come from meeting someone new. ✨ Who we become through friendship and how new relationships can reveal different sides of ourselves at any age. 🍂 When friendships no longer fit and why letting go of a relationship can sometimes be part of our own growth. 🌎 Intergenerational friendship and what becomes possible when we stop assuming our closest friends need to be exactly our age. 🚪 The Five Doors of Friendship: Play, Inspiration, Generosity, Value Alignment, and Creative Alchemy, Tessa’s framework for creating deeper and more intentional relationships. 🎁 Generosity as a spiritual practice and why true generosity goes far beyond money or material things. 🔥 Creative Alchemy and the magic that can happen when two people inspire each other to create, collaborate, and think differently. 💫 The possibility that exists after 50 and why it is never too late to make new friends, deepen old relationships, or discover something new about yourself. The Five Doors of Friendship Tessa’s Five Doors offer different ways to enter into and deepen friendship: 🎈 Play 💡 Inspiration 🎁 Generosity 🧭 Value Alignment ✨ Creative Alchemy The beauty is that one friend doesn’t have to walk through every door with you. Some friends make you laugh. Some inspire you. Some share your deepest values. Others invite you to create, explore, or see yourself differently. There is no expiration date on meaningful connection. Some of your people may still be waiting for you. The invitation is to stay curious, stay open, and allow yourself to be surprised by who might walk through the next door. About Stacey Tessa K. Battat Stacey Tessa K. Battat is a self-proclaimed relationship geek, speaker, author, and the passionate engine behind The Open Nesters podcast. Rejecting the traditional “empty nest” narrative, Tessa champions the open nest, a vibrant third act defined by fresh possibilities, adventure, and profound connection. Through her podcast, speaking engagements, and workshops, she helps people navigate midlife with curiosity rather than complacency while challenging stereotypes around aging, intimacy, and retirement. Become the Architect of Your Own Life: Rewriting Your Midlife Blueprint
2026/07/30
Become the Architect of Your Own Life: Rewriting Your Midlife Blueprint What if the blueprint you've been following was never really yours? So many of us arrive in midlife living lives shaped by expectations we never consciously chose. We followed the blueprint we inherited about success, relationships, work, aging, and who we were supposed to become. But what happens when that blueprint no longer fits? In this solo episode of Reinvention Rebels, Wendy invites you to become the architect of your own life by questioning the assumptions you've been living by and intentionally rewriting your midlife blueprint. Through personal stories, honest reflection, and practical encouragement, she explores what midlife reinvention really looks like: not becoming someone new, but remembering who you've been all along. If you're navigating a life transition, embracing your second chapter, or wondering what's next after 50, this episode will remind you that it's never too late to redesign a life that feels authentically your own. ✨ What You'll Hear in This Episode: 🏡 Why so many women in midlife are living from a blueprint they never consciously chose. 🧭 The powerful questions that helped Wendy begin rewriting her midlife blueprint. ✨ How creating space allows clarity, confidence, and possibility to emerge. 💛 Why reinvention isn't about becoming someone new. 2026/06/18
Midlife Reckoning: Rock the Boat, Choose Yourself with The Selfish Year Author Valerie Jones What happens when you realize the life you've built no longer fits? In this powerful conversation, Wendy sits down with Valerie Jones, author of The Selfish Year, coach, entrepreneur, and host of The Selfish Woman Podcast, to explore what it really means to choose yourself in midlife. After decades of being the good girl, people pleaser, and selfless woman who always put everyone else first, Valerie reached a breaking point. Living in a beautifully restored apartment in Spain with her second husband, she had everything she thought she wanted. Yet she was deeply unhappy. That realization sparked a life-changing experiment: What if she spent one year being selfish? What followed transformed her life, her work, and her understanding of self-trust. Together, Wendy and Valerie discuss: 💔 Why so many women lose themselves while caring for everyone else 🏰 The difference between a life that looks beautiful on paper and one that actually feels aligned ✨ How to recognize self-abandonment before it becomes your default 🌊 Why midlife often brings a powerful reckoning you can no longer ignore 💡 The story behind choosing "selfish" as her word of the year 💛 What Valerie calls extravagant permission and why women need more of it 🌱 How tiny micro-changes can lead to massive transformation 🚣 Why you must be willing to rock the boat if you want to feel proud of your life 📝 A simple question that can help you begin your own reinvention journey today One of Valerie's most powerful questions: What do you not want anymore? If you're standing at a crossroads, questioning what's next, or feeling called toward something bigger, this episode offers both inspiration and practical wisdom for taking your next step. This conversation is a beautiful companion to last week's solo episode, Midlife Awakening: When You Finally Stop Explaining Things Away, where Wendy shares her own journey of listening to what she knew deep down was true and what happened when she finally stopped ignoring it. Midlife Awakening: When You Finally Stop Explaining Things Away
2026/06/04
What if midlife awakening isn't about having all the answers? What if it's about finally telling yourself the truth? In this deeply personal solo episode, Wendy reflects on her own midlife awakening and the long journey toward self-trust, listening to her body, and no longer explaining away what she knew deep down. For years, she became a master at minimizing discomfort, rationalizing away red flags, and convincing herself that things were "fine." Sound familiar? This episode explores the quiet ways many women lose touch with themselves through people pleasing, self-abandonment, and the habit of putting everyone else's needs ahead of their own. Wendy shares: ✨ Why awakening has its own timing 💛 The connection between people pleasing and self-abandonment 🌱 How shame can keep us stuck longer than we'd like to admit 💪 Why learning self-trust is essential to choosing yourself 🧠 The signals our bodies often send long before we're ready to acknowledge the truth 🦋 How telling yourself the truth can become one of the most liberating acts of midlife reinvention If you've ever found yourself explaining things away, overriding your instincts, or wondering why you've stayed stuck in a pattern for so long, this conversation is for you. This midlife awakening may look different from mine, but the invitation is the same: to listen more deeply to yourself, trust what you've known all along, and have the courage to face what's true. Because maybe awakening isn't about becoming someone new. Maybe it's about finally coming home to yourself. Favorite Quote: "Maybe that's what awakening really is. Not having all the answers. Not suddenly becoming fearless. Not magically healing overnight. But finally telling yourself the truth. And once you do that, something begins to shift." Loving the show? Text us and let us know! 😊 Support the show ********* Thanks for joining me, let's reinvent and get inspired together! Midlife Reinvention, Caregiving & Betting on Yourself with Renée White What does it mean to keep evolving in midlife — especially when life asks more of you than you ever expected? In this thoughtful and deeply personal episode of Reinvention Rebels, Wendy Battles talks with sociologist, academic leader, and longtime friend Renée White about caregiving, leadership, identity, self-trust, and the courage to leave spaces that no longer serve you. From caring for parents with dementia to stepping into leadership roles she never planned to pursue, Renée shares how curiosity, discernment, and community helped her continue evolving through every chapter of midlife reinvention. In this episode you’ll hear: ✨ Why curiosity has been the through-line of Renée’s midlife reinvention journey 💜 What caregiving for both parents taught her about identity, patience, and advocacy 🎓 How she discovered unexpected strengths through academic leadership 🔥 The moment she realized it was time to leave a space that no longer served her 🌱 Why “moving toward something” is more powerful than simply running away 🌀 The meaning of Sankofa and how the past can guide your future without defining it 🤝 How trusted community helps us see strengths we don’t always recognize in ourselves “It’s always better to be moving toward something than just running from something.” 🎁 Free Resource If this episode resonated with you, download Wendy’s free guide:  5 Questions to Spark Your Reinvention Journey Designed to help you reconnect with yourself, reflect on where you are right now, and explore what might be next in your own reinvention journey.
