Death must included in the conversation of birth. There is not one without the other. Today we explore our connection with the dead, how as mothers who’ve lost babies, we can begin to connect with them beyond the veil and also mother allows from all different spaces, places + species. In the UK Breastfeeding rates are at an all time low. A study from 2010 showed: - 80% of mothers + babies breastfed initially at birth - 24% of mothers exclusively breastfed at 6 weeks - 1% of mothers exclusively breastfed at 6 months We know just how important breastmilk can be for mothers wellbeing and the wellbeing of our babies - this drop in breastfeeding is an epidemic, as is the lack of support breastfeeding mother receive and the implications of this reality for both mothers + babies is detrimental. In this Episode I interview the lovely Hazra who is a Muslim Birth + Postnatal Doula + Breastfeeding Support Councillor, based in Bristol. Through new research on Epigenetics we can see how trauma truly can be carried ancestrally through our bodies on a cellular level from mother to child + thus affect how we behave day to day. The correlation of our own birth stories can impact the way we show up in the world even as adults. We talk about how our maternal mothers + grandmothers births + pregnancies can be carried through to our own nervous systems, creating the foundation for our blueprint of birth, potentially even impacting how to go on to birth our own babies. Shani shares about how we can begin to heal ancestral trauma through breathwork, before conception or during pregnancy, WHY it's SO important and how making peace with these stories can impact our birth experiences + our lives in the most liberting of ways.
