Dear Friends, I recently got an opportunity to chat with Dr. Bhalchandra Kashyapi who is a practicing Urologic Cancer Surgeon in Pune. He shared that twenty years back, if there were a tumor in the Kidney, the whole Kidney was removed. But, now the concept is completely revamped.  Now we say if it is kidney cancer, save the Kidney as much as possible. The basic unit of the Kidney is Nephron. In each Kidney, there are approximately 10 lakh nephrons. The technical term for this is “Nephron sparing surgery”, and in simple terms, we call it partial nephrectomy. You’ll come to know in the upcoming episodes that why it is not a spelling mistake, what is the meaning of it and what is its purpose. The broad objective of this whole program is to bring clarity about cancer and its treatment in the lives of people, cancer patients, and their caregivers.  Friends, there is a lot of ambiguity because none of us assumes that we’ll go through cancer so obviously we are not prepared for that. And, when such a big thing happens or a kind of draining type of disease happens, we just don’t understand what should we do and how? At this point in time, we need the right clarity, the right consultation, and the right guidance.  This program of ours called VIOCE will act as a guide for you and will empower you as you must have realized in the tagline of its logo, it says Empowering Cancer Patients.
