Stress Response In Relationship
2024/01/22
This week on Trauma Rewired, hosts Jennifer and Elisabeth welcome back Matt Bush of Next Level Neuro to explore the physiology of stress and the transformative power of neurosomatic intelligence. We know that connection is crucial to our survival as humans, but for those with complex trauma, even the healthiest relationships can trigger a stress response and lead to maladaptive behaviors. This episode provides a comprehensive look at how stress impacts our relationships and physical health, and highlights the importance of consistent nervous system training to rewire the brain’s response to stress and build resilience. The conversion starts by examining what happens in the brain when a stress response is activated, and how developmental trauma shapes our nervous system and subconscious reactions as adults. Matt breaks down complex neurological processes, covering the role of the HPA axis, immune dysregulation and increased inflammation. Jennifer also introduces a new concept, called “shameflammation,” as they delve into the connection between chronic stress and disease in the body. Listen to this episode to learn more about stress response in relationships and how you can retrain it through NSI! Complex Trauma Impacts Brain Development
2024/01/01
“Impaired integration is such a hallmark of the traumatized brain. It disrupts our ability to balance our nervous system. Neurobiologist Dan Siegel says that at its very essence, the purpose of trauma therapy is to restore brain integration.”   On today’s episode, co-hosts Jennifer Wallace and Elisabeth Kristoff of Brain-Based Wellness discuss the neurological impacts of trauma, specifically how disassociation and fragmentation affect our brain integration. They’re joined by Matt Bush of Next Level Neuro and co-founder of the Neuro-Somatic Intelligence Coaching Certification Program.   Expect to understand more about how early childhood trauma results in brain dysfunction, shapes our basic functioning and filtration systems, and can overpower the cognitive mind. You’ll also learn what reintegrating memories actually means, and why integration is the key to healing.   Trauma Rewired has mentioned many times that without integration, long-lasting change is difficult, but without the survival brain and emotional brain working together, integration, specifically vertical integration, is impossible. This may sound overwhelming, but the good news change IS possible because of neuroplasticity.   If you want a deep understanding of vertical integration and how trauma affects the developing brain, tune in to learn more!   Tune in to hear how neurosomatic intelligence can help get you to integrate and regulate your nervous system!   Topics discussed in this episode:   Defining complex trauma from a neurosomatic perspective Effects of trauma on brain development Dissociation and fragmentation of self Memory integration and why people feel “stuck” Real examples of trauma responses overpowering their cognitive brain Dissociating from the different parts of your self What is vertical integration? Presence
2023/12/26
How do you show up in the world, in relationships, at work? Even just sitting in a sauna. Can you safely say you are fully present in these situations? If you feel you aren’t present most of the time, you’re not alone. Most people aren’t, especially if you’ve experienced complex trauma. On the bright side, presence can be learned by using the right tools to get you there. Presence is a topic that is near and dear to our hosts Jennifer and Elisabeth’s hearts, precisely because of how they both struggled to be present after experiencing trauma, but also the gift presence provided them in all aspects of life once re-learned. In today’s episode, Jennifer and Elisabeth discuss how not being present, repressing emotions and dissociation can lead to health issues and deteriorate relationships. While offering the tools required to become present to live a fulfilling and healthy life with secure attachment styles in relationships. This episode dives deep into the science behind presence as well as what happens when you are in your body for the first time in a long time and how using the tools provided in the NSI training can help. Understanding how your brain operates when it is fully present and how it affects your body, while having tools to help you get there, can literally put years back on to your life. Tune in for this and more! Topics discussed in this episode:   How Jennifer and Elisabeth define presence Why presence is important for healing complex traumas Empowerment that comes from presence How presence is a time expander What is a trigger? How intentional training can lead to presence The time it takes to cultivate full presence in the body The struggle behind showing up in the world differently Health implications behind repressed emotion and not being present One big reason to start being present: a study on telomeres Why it is important to work with your interoceptive system Re-patterning of relationship attachment style Contact us about private Rewire Neuro-Somatic Coaching: https://brainbased-wellness.com/rewire-private-neuro-somatic-coaching/   Learn more about the Neuro-Somatic Intelligence Coaching program and sign up for the spring cohort now! https://www.neurosomaticintelligence.com   Get started training your nervous system with our FREE 2-week offer on the Brain Based Membership site: https://www.rewiretrial.com   Connect with us on social media: @trauma.rewired   Join the Trauma Rewired Facebook Group! https://www.facebook.com/groups/761101225132846 FREE 1 Year Supply of Vitamin D + 5 Travel Packs from Athletic Greens when you use my exclusive offer: https://www.drinkag1.com/rewired This episode was produced by Podcast Boutique https://www.podcastboutique.com

Dissociation
2023/12/18
Dissociation is one way that our brain keeps us safe from things that may cause us stress or harm. Whether it’s a simple moment of daydreaming or constant state of dissociation in an abusive relationship, being cognitively and physically disconnected is not conducive to healing.   During this episode of Trauma Rewired, Jennifer and Elisabeth discuss the spectrum of dissociation and how it can affect the interoceptive system, or how we process and send information to the brain. They go over the symptoms of dissociation, sharing their personal experiences of dissociation related to childhood trauma.   Our survival brain sees healing as a threat, but there are ways to rehab the deficits in the nervous system to give more clear information to the brain, helping us to think and see more clearly. For example, training our interoceptive system can fight our hypersensitivity to threats and bring us out of disassociation.   To learn what tools can help you retrain your nervous system and the learned conditioned responses that are no longer serving you, tune in to this episode!   Topics discussed in this episode:   Misconceptions about dissociation The definition of dissociation and its symptoms Dissociation as a protective mechanism How the interoceptive system works Dissociation and the freeze response How dissociation affects the body and how we feel pain The link to avoidance behavior Tools to bring yourself back from a state of dissociation Body dysmorphia and deficits in the visual system Living in the body to find a safe place to feel and heal Dissociation as an effect of peak somatic experiences   Learn more about the Neuro-Somatic Intelligence Coaching program and sign up for the spring cohort now! https://www.neurosomaticintelligence.com/?utm_medium=aff-traumarewired&utm_content&utm_source   Get started training your nervous system with our FREE 2-week offer on the Brain Based Membership site: https://www.rewiretrial.com   Contact us about private Rewire Neuro-Somatic Coaching: https://brainbased-wellness.com/rewire-private-neuro-somatic-coaching/   Connect with us on social media: @trauma.rewired   Join the Trauma Rewired Facebook Group! https://www.facebook.com/groups/761101225132846 FREE 1 Year Supply of Vitamin D + 5 Travel Packs from Athletic Greens when you use my exclusive offer: https://www.drinkag1.com/rewired This episode was produced by Podcast Boutique https://www.podcastboutique.com
