long live the Fourth Estate (with Allan Thompson)
2026/02/18
our guest today is the Director of the School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University and head of Carleton’s journalism program, Allan Thompson.
Professor Thompson is a lifelong journalist who's reported from newsrooms around the world—from Washington, to England, to Rwanda.
Thompson joined us to examine the current state of American political journalism in the Trump era, and to tell us why he still has faith in the future of news media thanks to the passion and energy shown by the next gen of j-schoolers.

smashing patriarchy through shine theory (with Julie S. Lalonde)
2026/02/13
Our Galentine's Day guest this year is the magnificent Miss Julie S. Lalonde—a dear friend of ours as well as a bestselling author, an internationally recognized women’s rights advocate, and a public educator.
Franco-ontarienne du nord de l’Ontario, elle est basée à Ottawa. Julie holds a BA and MA in Canadian Studies and Women’s Studies from Carleton University with a focus on the lives of economically disadvantaged elderly women.
Julie and Jenn discussed how to discuss Epstein while centering survivors, the many brosocialist losers lurking on the left, harassment and bystander intervention, and the urgent need for strong millennial feminist friends (like us!) to lift eachother up and stop tearing eachother down (shine theory, baby!).

simply yearning to coexist (with Jesse Brown)
2026/01/21
the mensch behind Canadaland has launched an investigative podcast series called What Is Happening Here? which documents the frightening rise of antisemitism in Canada.
Jesse Brown joins us to share what he learned and shed some light on the many worries and daunting questions plaguing Canadian Jews right now.
also : we revisit the luminous and defiantly feminist character Rachel Menken of Menken's Department Store (from Mad Men).
this Canadaland series on the threats posed by anti-semitism is powerful and provocative (and absolutely worth your time) but please exercise caution if you plan to listen to it as a lot of what you'll hear is not for the faint of heart (trigger/content warning) :

collapsing empires and mayoral rizz (with Supriya Dwivedi)
2026/01/16
are the Carney Liberals kowtowing to India? does anyone care about the NDP leadership race? will Mamdani’s abundant rizz ever be replicated? does everything just generally suck right now?!
the brilliant Supriya Dwivedi joined us to contemplate these and other questions and to spill some tea from her time as a senior advisor to Canada's former PM Justin Trudeau. Supriya is a political pundit on CBC's Power & Politics and a columnist for the Toronto Star and National Observer. she joined us from Toronto in December 2025.

fashy survival skills with Jesse Duquette (part two)
2025/04/26
welcome to part two of our three part special conversation with Chicago-based cartoonist and perhaps the most censored guy on the internet, Jesse Duquette.
Jesse joined Jenn to talk about comedy, art therapy, patriotism, surviving American fascism, Mike Myers' killer comeback on Saturday Night Live, and much more.
consider this three-part series free therapy as we all struggle to navigate the nightmare that is the new world order.

fashy survival skills with Jesse Duquette (part one)
2025/04/08
how are you feeling right now? anxious? stressed? depressed? contemplating putting your fist through a wall?
girl, same. but we gotcha.
given (gestures broadly) all this, we've got American political cartoonist Jesse Duquette with us today to commiserate.
he's been documenting the bleak state of the world under he who shall not be named for years now, culminating in a couple books and many viral pieces that you've no doubt come across.
think of this multi-part episode as a free therapy session.
and wherever you are right now - Canada, US, elsewhere - hang in there honey. orange man bad but together we'll through this (uh, hopefully).
