64. Gerry Arbuckle: Building a business on your values
2025/08/18
Gerry is a partner at Cyan Partners, a legal search and recruitment firm – and he's a client of mine, so it was a pleasure to talk to him. Cyan Partners is built on strong values and has a wide-ranging Community and Social Responsibility programme.
Knowing Gerry before he joined the business, I know that it was important for him to be part of a team that lives its values and I was pleased to find out more about the drivers behind that.
From charitable giving, to Climate Perks for employees and becoming a B-Corp, Gerry sees it as a duty as a successful business to give something back.
My book "Marketing for Introverts, How to love it, plan it and do it so you can quietly (and successfully) promote your business in a noisy world" is available to buy on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Marketing-Introverts-quietly-successfully-business/dp/B0CJKY81WD

63. Why aren't you marketing your business? Fears and blocks
2025/07/21
Many introverts have some very real fears about different aspects of marketing. When I talk to podcast guests and to clients, we regularly talk about the fear of getting visible, fear of not being perfect, the fear that what we have to say isn't important and the fear of not being liked.
This episode is taken from my book "Marketing for Introverts, How to love it, plan it and do it so you can quietly (and successfully) promote your business in a noisy world" and I share strategies for overcoming some of the fears and blocks that may be stopping you from marketing your business.
The book is available to buy on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Marketing-Introverts-quietly-successfully-business/dp/B0CJKY81WD

62. Innovation in marketing: thoughts from an introvert
2025/07/07
Earlier this year I was asked to speak about Innovation in Marketing at an industry round table event. The brief was to cover how the marketing world had changed and how small business owners could cut through and use innovation to stand out.
My inner imposter syndrome went to town! I don't consider myself a particularly innovative marketer and I wondered what I can possibly say to add value to an audience. And then I remembered that talking about your personality and trying to be really human can actually be very innovative. So this episode is my thoughts on innovation and being radically human.

61. Rebranding your small business
2025/06/23
This week's guest is the first time I've spoken to an extrovert on the podcast!
Kate Curry is the Founder and Creative Director of Cudos Creative. As an extrovert herself, she has learnt a lot about her personality style and that of her introverted team members and shares what she's learnt about how to ensure everyone is working at their best.
As a branding expert, Kate undertook the rebranding of her own business last year and she talks openly about the challenges and the benefits of that process.

She recommended The E-myth revisited and Built to Sell.

60. Practical tips for growing your audience
2025/06/09
There is no magic wand to grow your audience!
This week's episode takes you through some very practical steps for growing your email audience and your social media followers. Based on a client Jenny has been working with for the last 12 months it includes content planning, channel strategy, posting frequency and all the ways we have grown a highly engaged email list. The client in question is a small organisation, so the tips and the numbers involved should be highly relatable!

58. Do I need a marketing strategy?
2023/12/11
Strategy is a highly overused word, and in my opinion, it isn't always a helpful one. It sounds complicated, inaccessible and a bit too clever! When you google the phrase Marketing Strategy you can get 927,000,000 results! I don't know about you but I do not have the time to go through all of those so how can we make it simple?
In this episode I share how I have distilled down marketing strategy into the 5 step Marketing for Introverts model:
Your Values
What you do
Who you do it for
Your niche
Your story
From this simple process you can start to build marketing activities and an ongoing plan – and you can say no to the things that don't help you. Take a listen and if you want to explore this in more depth you can buy the book here https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CJKY81WD
This book is definitely for you if you run a small business based on your knowledge and expertise and you don't like putting your face on your marketing. Based on the conversations I've had on the podcast, plus 25 years working in marketing as an introvert, I hope you find the advice and strategies enable you to market your business consistently and comfortably.
57. Making your business more effective with Charlotte WIlkinson
2023/11/27
If you've heard me talk about finding time to create content, and how I found time to write my book, you'll have heard me talk about how difficult I found it to outsource anything in my business, but how finally working with a VA was a major step for me.
So I was delighted to have a catch up with Charlotte, who is my VA, and talk about how that process works, which tools we use and how she helps her clients overcome the fear of outsourcing. If you are overwhelmed by paperwork, social media or anything else in your business maybe our conversation will help you take step to find the help you need to thrive.
Charlotte recommended Atomic Habits by James Clear which you can get here: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/8868/9781847941831

56. The importance of know, like and trust in your business
2023/11/13
This episode is taken from my new book and I want to talk about the process of know, like and trust, especially if you are a service business owner. I talk about this a lot with my podcast guests and I often refer to it when talking about particular types of marketing – video for example or networking are great ways to build know, like and trust. It can be a frustrating process because it often takes time and sometimes in business we want everything to happen much quicker.
In this episode I talk about why it can help reduce the risk for your potential clients and I share my most simple tip for building trust in your business.
You can buy the book here https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CJKY81WD

54. Lessons from running a launch campaign
2023/10/16
I've spent the last few weeks launching my new book. It has been exciting but also a little strange. I was working on the manuscript for the book over a period of about 2 years. Most of the writing was done on my own in my home office so it was a really solitary activity. After spending such a long time working on it, it feels a little odd to have it actually out in the world.
Launching can be challenging! It's a time to get very visible and really put a lot of energy and focus into marketing myself and my ideas.
In this episode I share my thoughts and lessons from running a launch campaign, from the mindset advice to the practical tips.
You can buy the book here https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CJKY81WD

52. Celebrating success in your business
2023/08/21
I want to talk about celebrating success in your business because it's something I'm honestly not that great at. And I bet if I'm not good at it, maybe you aren't too.
Because running a business can be really hard work, and if we don't stop to take a moment to say well done to ourselves, no one else is going to.
In this episode I talk about what we can celebrate and how we might do it. From big new client wins to ditching a crappy client to achieving your purpose, what can you celebrate in your business?

51. Finding time to create your content
2023/08/07
Content creation can be a very time consuming process. Whether you go for blog posts or video or podcasts or a lead magnet or fantastic story telling social media posts, it all takes time, and that's time away all the other responsibilities and hats that we wear as small business owners.
So how do we find time to create our content. In this episode I share the tips that I have used to write my new book, Marketing for Introverts
From repurposing, to carving out small chunks of time, to talking as if I was already an author, taking small steps and getting other people to keep me accountable, I know there are tips that you will find useful in your business.

50. Finding your niche and building your self-belief with Sophie Carefull
2023/07/24
In this episode I spoke to certified self-belief coach Sophie Carefull, who works with introverted creatives. Sophie's background is as a branding photographer so I really wanted to understand how she moved from that to coaching and how she chose her business niche. It was a great opportunity to talk to her about the challenges introverts have with having their photo taken and gain some of her top tips – including choosing the right photographer that puts you at your ease.
Sophie was upfront about the benefits of her niche, including the ways it has impacted on her marketing messages and how that has developed since she started her business.
We also dived into the issue of self-belief, what it is, how it links to confidence and how to cultivate it in your business and your life. This was a really wide ranging conversation, I hope you find it interesting!
