Description

We’re the Robledo Family and we're here to inspire you to boldly and unapologetically live outside the box, dream big, and question everything. We are here to show you how to DEFY THE NORM. Back in 2015, Robyn and her husband, Victor, decided to ditch the rat race with their 5 kids in tow. They moved their family into a 30 foot RV, and began traveling the world in search of epic trails to hike, rocks to climb, and waves to surf. Along with their full-time RV life, they traveled to 26 countries in search of adventure, fulfillment, and purpose. In the journey, they discovered a new reality. The reality that...Life is an endless sea of opportunity and it’s best experienced right outside your comfort zone. We’re here to inspire you to do the same. Robyn Robledo, Co-founder of Nomads With A Purpose, aims to share inspiration on life, confidence, purpose, and bravery to go against the grain as she interviews her family and other figures of radical bravery and stoke.

132 We Escaped the Rat Race for 11 Years. Why Did We Come Back?
2026/10/18
What happens when the life you worked so hard to create needs to change? In 2015, Robyn Robledo and her family moved into an RV for what was supposed to be five months. Eleven years of travel, surfing, hiking, and climbing followed. Now, with a home base and children building lives of their own, she’s navigating a different kind of adventure. In this honest conversation, Robyn explores freedom, family connection, rediscovering yourself beyond motherhood, and the discomfort of choosing a new chapter. She shares why the family returned, how everyday commitments can quietly take over your calendar, and the simple practice that helped her begin changing her life: get curious, then take a step toward that curiosity. A conversation for anyone who loves their family and still wonders what else life could hold.
131 How We Stopped Living by Society’s Rules and Built a Life That Felt Like Ours
2026/09/22
00:01–01:22: Robyn and Victor reintroduce Nomads With a Purpose and the Defy the Norm podcast after a long break. They reflect on 11 years of full-time travel with five children and how challenges helped them grow individually, spiritually, and as a couple. 01:22–03:37: Victor describes how trying to remain likable and adapting his personality to each coaching client caused exhaustion and anxiety. His overworked nervous system kept inventing worst-case scenarios and made it difficult to distinguish real danger from fear. 03:37–07:40: They contrast familiar, controlled hardship—such as weight training or jiu-jitsu—with the uncertainty of travel and adventure. Robyn explains that repeated exposure to unfamiliar challenges develops self-trust, self-worth, risk assessment, and authenticity. 07:40–13:19: Their three-part framework for change is to calm the nervous system, step slightly outside the comfort zone, and question whether fearful reactions are based on facts, old conditioning, family patterns, or society’s expectations. 13:19–18:43: Traveling gave their children strong identities, confidence, and the ability to assess risk. Their current challenge is learning how to turn their authentic interests into sustainable work without falling into comparison, competition, conformity, or the pursuit of security at all costs. 18:43–24:55: A six-month European trip removed the pressure of extended-family expectations and strengthened the family as a team. However, Victor’s exhaustion, lack of involvement in planning, and fear of disappointing clients demonstrate how an overwhelmed nervous system can follow someone into even their dream lifestyle. 24:55–34:33: They revisit difficult periods in Bend and Breckenridge, including career setbacks, unsuitable jobs, financial strain, and an RV accident. In hindsight, they see these events as experiences that ultimately led them to their ideal Bend property and a more collaborative marriage. 34:33–40:17: Spirituality helped Victor move beyond seeing himself only as a provider and grinder. He now believes his gifts have a larger purpose and that it is healthy to desire abundance, influence, and income—especially when those resources allow him to help more people. 40:17–45:29: Victor explains his coaching approach: he identifies patterns in movement, posture, breathing, fascia, and emotional stress. He believes healing accelerates when physical retraining is combined with examining the emotions, experiences, and identities being held in the body. 45:29–47:45: Their central family lesson is to stop treating life as a collection of prescribed roles and schedules and begin operating as a team. Families can ask, “How do we want to live, thrive, and wake up excited?” instead of automatically following society’s definition of a good life. 128 Communication Is More Than Just Talking
2024/12/28
In this week's episode, we are covering: Communication: More Than Just Talking One of our biggest struggles has been truly understanding each other. Robyn would talk for hours, feeling unheard, while Victor would listen intently but miss the emotional core of what I was saying. It wasn't about the words, but about the feeling behind them. Victor's perspective was different. He was trying to find the core message, the one sentence that would validate my feelings. But our communication styles were fundamentally misaligned. The Power of Understanding Personal Growth We discovered that our individual growth paths were crucial to our relationship. Victor, for instance, requires extensive self-care – sometimes up to 4-5 hours daily. This isn't indulgence, but a necessary process of emotional and physical reset. For Robyn, growth meant learning to trust the universe, to understand that I couldn't force change in Victor, but could only transform myself.   Breaking Down Our Communication Differences Our Myers-Briggs types play a significant role in how we communicate: - Victor is more focused on feelings, memories, and past experiences - Robyn is driven by future goals, efficiency, and forward momentum. This fundamental difference used to create conflict, but now we've learned to see it as a strength. The Turning Point: Rediscovering Connection We started spending time together in our hot tub, reconnecting and trying to understand each other's perspectives. We realized that: 1. Individual growth is crucial 2. Communication is about understanding, not just talking 3. Relationships require constant intentional effort Our Relationship Toolkit We've developed strategies that have helped us: - Practice radical open-mindedness - Communicate honestly - Respect individual journeys - Create shared goals - Maintain personal growth A Message of Hope To couples struggling in long-term relationships, we want to say: Don't give up. Relationships are not about perfection, but about continuous growth and commitment. Key Takeaways: - Prioritize your partnership - Communicate openly - Maintain individual growth - Be patient with yourself and your partner - Regularly reassess and realign your relationship Our Relationship Course We've created a relationship course that breaks down our journey into four key elements: 1. Understanding personal wounds 2. Effective communication 3. Shadow work 4. Contract renegotiation The Secret Sauce: Manifestation and Trust Perhaps our most powerful tool has been manifestation. By consistently visualizing and believing in our desired outcome, we've been able to create remarkable experiences – from world travel to deepening our connection. Final Thoughts Marriage is not a destination. It's a continuous journey of growth, understanding, and recommitment. Some days are harder than others, but the key is to keep showing up, keep loving, and keep believing in each other. 127 Choosing Your Spouse or Children: A Candid Conversation About Relationship Dynamics
2024/12/21
In a raw and vulnerable podcast episode, Victor and Robyn share their journey of navigating marriage, parenthood, and personal growth. Their story reveals a common relationship challenge: The delicate balance between prioritizing your spouse and your children. The Roots of Disconnection: Robyn candidly admits that for years, she chose her children over her husband. This wasn't a deliberate decision, but a gradual process rooted in several factors: 1. Changing Dynamics: As their family grew and children became more involved in activities, their relationship shifted from being couple-centered to child-centered. 2. Unaddressed Expectations: Small feelings of betrayal and unmet expectations began to create distance between them. 3. Individual Pursuits: Victor's jujitsu and Robyn's yoga and surfing became separate activities that further pulled them apart. The Self-Care Connection: A key insight from their conversation is the critical role of self-care. Victor, in particular, requires extensive daily self-care - sometimes up to 4-5 hours - to feel grounded and balanced. This includes: - Listening to educational content - Stretching and mobility work - Breathwork - Workouts - Running - Mobility Therapy What Keeps Them Together Despite their challenges? Two things have sustained their relationship: 1. Open-mindedness: Both are willing to listen and explore new ideas. 2. Self-discipline: Each are commitment to physical health and self-improvement The Missing Piece: Shared Vision Currently, they're working to develop a shared vision for their future. Robyn emphasizes the importance of not just existing, but actively creating something meaningful together. Key Takeaways: - Relationships require constant communication and realignment - Self-care is crucial, but shouldn't come at the expense of connection - Maintaining individual growth while nurturing the relationship is challenging but possible Recommended Resources: - "The Gene Keys" by Richard Rudd - Beatrice Chestnut's Enneagram book on 27 types Their story is a testament to the complexity of long-term relationships and the ongoing work required to maintain them.
