It's Time to Fix the Barber Industry's Hiring Problem with Drew Le
2026/10/13
Sponsored by Hello Salon Pro & Milk_Shake
Interview with
What if finding your next barber or your next chair could be easier? Kelly Ehlers sits down with Drew Lee, founder of Barber Recruit and owner of Original Sharp Barbershop and Shave Parlor in New Jersey, to explore a more connected, professional future for barbering.
Drawing on 20 years behind the chair and a decade of shop ownership, Drew shares how his own hiring frustrations inspired a platform that brings portfolios, career experience, shop opportunities, and compensation information together. They discuss building strong teams, supporting barbers’ career growth, and finding a shop that fits beyond the paycheck.
Plus, Kelly and Jeff discuss beauty news, transformative haircuts, curtain bangs, and the balance between charging your worth and communicating prices clearly. In The Fine Print, Kelly challenges the idea that women have an expiration date on their ambitions.

Is This Cult Haircare Brand Still Fighting to Break Through? with Dina Rosenbloom
2026/09/29
Interview with Dina Rosenbloom
Dina Rosenbloom is a C-Suite Executive and beauty industry veteran that joined Hairstory in June 2023 and quickly became CEO. Before this, she served as Senior Vice President at Creed Fragrances North America for 11 years and prior roles include leadership marketing positions at Unilever, Carol’s Daughter and Bumble and bumble.
Interestingly, Dina arrived in the US (Minnesota) as a toddler, after her family immigrated from the Soviet Union with just $8 to start their new life! She knuckled down and worked her way up, meaning that today looks quite different; a CEO of an incredible brand that is fully led by women.

Interview with Allison Conrad
Allison Conrad is the co-founder and CEO of Arey, a functional beauty brand pioneering a proactive, science-backed approach to aging hair. When Allison spotted her first grey hair, she started looking for a solution beyond endless dye appointments. That search led her to discover that genetics are only part of why hair goes grey, factors like oxidative stress, nutrient depletion, and environmental exposure can also play a role.
Together with her longtime stylist and certified trichologist Jay Small, Allison co-founded Arey, an anti-aging haircare brand designed to address aging hair at the root. Working alongside leading scientists and medical advisors, they developed a solution clinically proven to reduce grey hairs,* powered by the patent-protected Mela-9® Complex and proprietary Arey® Compound.

Interview with Jenna Bowden
Jenna Bowden is the Founder of Delta Crown Hair Extensions, an emerging leader in premium hair extension services. In her first four years as a salon owner, she experienced three team walkouts while cycling through three ineffective leadership styles: hiring friends over fit ("The Idealist"), leading with rigid control ("The Dictator"), and becoming too hands-off once the business stabilized ("The Semi-Absentee"). Those experiences led her to develop a "leading the leaders" approach, which helped grow the business into an acquisition by a platform company. Delta Crown then launched its franchise opportunity in March 2026 and signed its first three franchise agreements within two months.

Nutrafol's Rooted In: The Revenue with Dana Funk and Casey Gilley
2026/08/13
Nutrafol's Rooted In series brought to you by The Tease
nutrafol.com/stylists
Hosted By Johnnell Theresa Nidoh
Beauty runs deep in her roots—literally. Johnnell grew up in her mother’s salon, where the sound of dryers and hairspray sparked her passion for the professional hair industry. From sweeping floors to leading brand education and storytelling, she's built a 20+ year career across brands like Bumble and bumble, DevaCurl, and Salon Professional Distribution. Long before it became mainstream, she saw the shift toward scalp health and whole-body wellness. Today, at the heart & helm of the Salon Channel at Nutrafol, Johnnell is passionate about shaping the future of holistic hair health and helping make inside-out beauty the new standard. Outside of work, she is fueled by travel, connection, yoga, meditation, and a love for new experiences that keep her grounded and inspired, because less stress = healthier hair.
Interview with Dana Funk
Dana Funk began her journey with Studio Gaven on September 17, 2007. While attending cosmetology school, she started part-time in the call center before transitioning to the front desk, where she trained under Derek Reynolds and quickly developed a passion for guest experience, leadership, and customer service.
After earning her Shampoo Tech license in 2007 and Cosmetology license in 2008, Dana entered the associate program under Jayson Morgan, who became an incredible mentor for all things hair and guest experience. Dana then advanced through the Summit Salon career path, ultimately achieving Level 5 Summit Stylist status before transitioning into leadership.
The beauty industry and doing hair have meant so much to Dana throughout her career. From 2008–2017, she had the privilege of working behind the chair with some of the most amazing guests, creating relationships and memories that she will always cherish. She is incredibly thankful to every guest who trusted her throughout those years and helped shape her journey.
Throughout her career, Dana trained in front and back house operations, management, and team leadership. Working alongside Gaven Smith has been one of the most amazing and rewarding experiences of her career. In 2015, she became Director of Studio Gaven, and in 2017, she was honored to become a Shareholder and Part-Owner.
Dana is passionate about leadership, team culture, guest experience, and helping others grow both personally and professionally.
“This journey still feels like a dream. I count my blessings every single day, and I am forever grateful for this team, this career, and every person who has been part of the journey.”

A passionate educator with 15 years of mentoring experience, she also works directly with their management team to maintain their daily operations running smoothly by overseeing everything from inventory control and guest relations to employee management, professional development, and maintaining positive team culture.
Behind the chair, Casey works with a salon associate every day to ensure a luxurious and relaxing experience for all guests.
