Tobacco Free Cigarettes
2021/09/22
When I first came across this company, I wasn't so sure what to expect. Upon having a conversation with Setti Coscarella and actually learning about TAAT Global, I was pretty blown away. The old saying goes, don't judge a book by its cover. In this episode Setti and I discuss: 1. What are TAAT Global Cigarettes? 2. Different alternatives of cigarettes and the dangers of vape 3. WHO should be smoking these cigarettes and their target market. 4. What the future holds for TAAT Global 5. Tips for new entrepreneurs and impact leaders.  Building upon more than two decades of experience in investment banking, private equity, entrepreneurship, and strategic leadership for one of the world’s largest tobacco companies, Setti Coscarella is the Chief Executive Officer of TAAT™, spearheading its entry into the USD $814 billion global tobacco industry. Setti created a business unit within the Canadian division of Philip Morris International (“PMI”) dedicated to the commercialization of reduced-risk products (“RRP”), an emerging category to offer alternatives to tobacco cigarettes. In August of 2020, Setti joined TAAT™ and in the following quarter brought its tobacco-free and nicotine-free alternative to cigarettes to tobacco wholesalers and retailers in Ohio, where it is currently sold statewide.  Nicotine free and Tobacco free Cigarettes seem completely foreign to me, however understanding the process behind why TAAT was created shifted my perspective. This was a great episode. https://taatglobal.com/ Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/madcasters)

Foster Care Children
2021/08/27
Debbie Ausborn highlights the beauty it was for her to have so many children that she has had to raise as well as the love and care for children in the community. Lawyer, Author, community leader, Debbie has done it all. https://www.debbieausburn.com/ I make my living as a lawyer, but what I do is take care of other people’s children. For more than 40 years, I have been working with traumatized children, starting when I was a preteen helping my parents with their summer camp and church ministries.  In the years since, I have served as a juvenile court probation officer/social worker, group home parent, criminal prosecutor, non-profit volunteer and Board member, and attorney defending youth-serving organizations.   ‍ My most important roles have been foster parent and stepparent. I never had biological children, but I have managed to collect 7 children and 10 grandchildren. Along the way, my foster children, stepchildren, and grandchildren have taught me the life lessons that are the core of my speaking and writing — the lessons that I wish I could have learned from a parenting manual rather than trial and error.  Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/madcasters)

How to help marginalized communities
2021/07/16
Rebecca Sherbino, founder of the Raw Carrot has a passion to help those not merely through hand outs but through a hand up! Her story, direction and mission is one that we can look at in awe and say, "there's always more that I can do" even when things seem like all options have been exhausted. With an undergraduate Degree in Global Development, Peace and Justice and a Master’s Degree in International Development, Rebecca has always had a passion for working with people. Living in 5 countries abroad and working for 4 years in Sustainable Community Development in Malawi and Sudan, Africa, she developed an acute awareness of the issues facing vulnerable and marginalized communities. Her work in developing countries fueled a desire to pursue justice for people both overseas and at home, which resulted in community advocacy in Paris. After adopting 2 children in Africa, Rebecca & her husband moved back to Canada to raise their young children; completing their family with the addition of 1 biological child. Frustrated by the lack of opportunities for work for teens and adults with mental health and learning disabilities in her church congregation, she and good friend (and co-director!) Colleen, were challenged to explore how to promote change within their local context. A late-night coffee date in May 2014 turned into a brainstorming session about the possibility of creating meaningful work for people with disabilities, and over the course of the evening, the idea of launching The Raw Carrot Soup Enterprise was born. Listen in as we discuss how the Raw Carrot is impacting lives; how she came up with the idea; the bright future for this company and ultimately what you can learn from how they are making a difference.
