Dr. Michael Ungar is the founder and director of the Resilience Research Centre at Dalhousie University and his groundbreaking work as a family therapist, and resilience researcher is recognized around the world. With  thoughtful conversations about inclusivity, privilege, and how to meet  students where they’re at, Augy shares a unique perspective on how to  fully integrate an inclusive mindset and how to expand your circle and  mind with intention. Today’s guests are young Armbrae alumni, Ecem Heywood and Isablelle Wong. Our priority at Armbrae is to ensure that every student feels a sense of belonging. The Student Success Centre team provides a range of academic and personal support services to Lower, Middle and Upper School students. The Student Success team provides support for students through social-emotional and academic counselling, as well as supporting students with a range of learning styles and individual education plans. Today’s guest is Megan Sernyk, Director of Student Success. In this episode we chat about her role at the Student Success Centre, the services offered, the importance of having a designated space to meet specific needs and how the centre will benefit students. We also talk about the future of creating enriched environments to set students up for success, eliminating the stigma around needing support, the link between belonging and academic success and creating a collaborative community for learning strategists. She has worked for Tourism Nova Scotia and several advertising agencies in Halifax, and spent years partnering with her sister in an event management company - Offspring Productions. Suzanne has also been a partner with her husband photographer James Ingram in their production company Jive Photographic Productions for over 20 years. Suzanne has three sons, Hogan, Redford, and North, the eldest who graduated from Armbrae in 2016. Her strong passion for the school - developed during Hogan's time at Armbrae - combined with her sales and marketing experience, make her a great fit for the role of Admissions and Marketing Director at Armbrae. "Advancement creates inspired messaging that supports the mission and vision of the school." Susan Hazel does just that for Armbrae Academy. She works with us to ignite the advancement flame in the Armbrae community. Susan has 41 years of experience in independent school education. She has held the position of executive director of case and became the Executive Director of advancement for Collingwood School in West Vancouver. In this role, she created the advancement department from the ground up, implemented a robust annual fund campaign, initiated an Alumni Association and together with the headmaster led a successful $10 million capital campaign, the largest in the school's history. Most recently, Susan was the Director of Development at Ridley College, where she oversaw a $40 million comprehensive campaign, yet again, the largest campaign in the school's history. In this episode, we talked about what advancement looks like at Armbrae, annual giving and the ripple effect of giving back, bridging the tuition gap between expectations and reality. We also talked about how financial assistance can help attract the best students to the school, and how strong relationships inspire trust and confidence in our community.
