For some time I have been arguing that the markets short term trends seem to be indicating something positive on the horizon. Certainly something more optimistic than what the daily headlines would seem to indicate. In looking at the market top down, we see the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ sporting some very bullish patterns. What I would call classic cup and handle formations and both of these indices are on the threshold of breaking out above those handle portions of the formation. When these breakouts occur historically they lead to significant gains that often times are sustainable.
