026: Feel the BURNout - Desperately seeking solutions
2021/07/29
So, you did all the things during COVID to cope (new hobbies, kept working, remote social events, personal improvement, healthy living, home improvement, etc) and now how do you reset your own expectation of what is possible and how you can handle taking things back on. So let’s talk about Burnout and how to deal with it - it feels like trying to change the tire while the car is moving... First, we'll admit some failures that lead us to believe we might be getting burnt out.  Then tackle some facts and dig into what might be the best way to dig ourselves out.  Handling job burnout Evaluate your options. EP 024: Is therapy right for me?
2021/06/24
“It’s not that Therapy has all the answers, it just leads you to the answers“ - Cherise What's this episode about?  Have you ever asked yourself “Is therapy right for me?” Well, we come from two different levels of experience with the topic of therapy but since the world is returning to normal and yet somehow we are still not back to normal, it seemed like the right time to explore the question, and with some professional help.  So, today we are going to dig into learning about the process of going to therapy. Erica has lot of personal experience with therapy, counseling and coaching and Laura is a blank slate so with that as our starting ground we decided it would be the PERFECT opportunity to bring on our first Oh, For Sure Podcast guest - Cherise Stewart, LMFT.  Cherise Stewart is a Marriage and Family therapist. She has been practicing for fourteen years and is currently in private practice in Willow Glen, California. She graduated from Santa Clara University with a MA in Counseling Psychology, with an emphasis in Health Psychology. She has worked with adults, teens, and children with a variety of challenges including depression, anxiety, relationships, and motivation. It is her mission to help her clients become a healthier version of themselves. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband, two boys, and dog. She loves to travel and explore new places and has lived in three different countries. We are going to start with learning about the process of going to therapy.  The Process of going to therapy What’s the difference between therapy, counseling and coaching? What’s an LMFT and what can you talk to them about? Who should consider going going and why would they consider it?Do physical symptoms represent possible mental red flags? How do you get past previous BAD experiences of therapy Should a client have a goal or is it okay to be open ended? What are the benefits and how long do you usually see people for? Are there certain mentalities or personalities that are more challenging to breakthrough with? How do you get a client comfortable to talk to you Insider chatHow do you take care of yourself? How do you survive with all the people sharing their worst? How hard has COVID been for your industry and your practice? Have you ever broken up with a client? How to get in touch with Cherise  How do people get in touch with Cherise or her network? @cmamawritehttp://www.cherisestewartlmft.com Links mentioned: Psychologytoday: https://www.psychologytoday.com/usEnegram 9 personaility types - https://www.enneagraminstitute.comBritish Baking Show - https://www.pbs.org/food/shows/great-british-baking-show/Voxxer - https://www.voxer.com

020: Tough Conversations with good friends: Part 2 - Miscarriage Guilt
2021/04/29
This topic in our series of tough topics with good friends is one that’s sensitive and we want to share our stories to bring more normalcy to the conversation. We are talking about infertility and miscarriages. When the question “Oh when are you getting married” suddenly becomes “when are you having kids?” There's never a great way to answer. We both knew we wanted to have kids but have ended up in different places, and now that we are past of life, we wanted to share our journeys in order to tell a different version of fertility and pregnancy than what is normally told - the grin and bear it response when someone asks how things are going. This is a sensitive and difficult process for many more people that usually goes undiscussed. As a way to support to those going through their own ups and downs, we are opening up about the difficulties, misinformation, and emotions we went through. And then finally offer some support tools and advice that we’d impart to those who want to be a good friend to someone who has or is going through this. Just need as a disclaimer these are our experiences and we are sharing our personal thoughts and opinions on this topic Erica shares her story about miscarriage. What helped?  Yoga, quieting the mind and having time to think and processJournaling - writing down the gory detailsTalking to close, trusted family members that helped me understand that it wasn't my faultTime passingUnderstanding the stages of lossShock and denialAnger and guiltDepression and despair (especially when other people are having kids, seemingly easily)Then acceptance Knowing that this to will pass Resources:  https://www.whattoexpect.com/pregnancy/after-miscarriage/Thanks so much for listening and don’t forget to subscribe and leave us a review!
