She has experience in film, theater, visual arts, and cultural programming, including curatorial work for festivals and institutions in Cabo Verde and Brazil, also in teaching Kriolu and developing projects that highlight memory, ancestry, and Afro-diasporic cultures, currently presiding the short movies category jury for the African International Film festival KAFUKA.

Devin Byrnes has been a New Bedford resident for twenty years; he currently lives in the West End with his wife and two children. Devin is the chef and owner of Destination Soups located in downtown New Bedford since 2008. Destination Soups has hosted many community groups over the years including Youth Opportunities Unlimited and Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High School Culinary students.Devin has been a GNBVT Advisory Board member since 2018, a two time Mentor and Judge on the South Coast’s Entrepreneurship for All Business program; he has served on the Board of Trustees for Coastal Food Shed. He won UMASS’s 2017 Charlton Business School “Established Entrepreneur Award.”In order to give back to the community, Devin organized the “Cocoa at the Common” for three consecutive years at Clasky Common. In addition, he created and founded “4752 Festival,” an all-ages and free music festival downtown starting in 2019 to the present.Devin remains an active member of the Whaling City Collaborative as an integral member of St. Lawrence church. Both of his children attend St. Teresa of Calcutta school in New Bedford. When elected, Devin will ensure that tax-payer money is spent effectively for all, he will work to protect public parks and spaces for city residents, he would strive to become a liaison to New Bedford’s business community, and he will collaborate with other councilors. Devin will pride himself on timely responses to all constituent concerns.

Robert Mendes is a Marriage and Family therapist with over 20 years of experience in Christian-based Marriage, Individual, and Family counseling with a Master's Degree in Family Therapy from Eastern Nazarene College, Quincy, MA. He has functioned as a Social Services Supervisor, a Human Services Manager, and a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider in the states of Virginia, California, and Massachusetts, where he was born and began his career. He is also a Pastor for Praise Chapel Christian Fellowship, where he was ordained in 1997, and pioneered as a Church Plant for 11 years in the state of Virginia. He and his beautiful wife, Analina, currently co-facilitate Marriage Seminars and have four adult children and several grandchildren. His vast and varied experience has provided him with great insight and perception, which is evident in his first book, the Jonah Project. Join us on 7/29/2025 as we have a conversation with JoJo & Jaren Goodine. This Father & Son duo knows how to run the football. It must be in the blood.JoJo Goodine- His statistics as a freshman were those of a better-than-average veteran — a bushel of rushing yards and five trips to the end zone, including two in a victory over Thanksgiving Day rival Durfee. His sophomore season was even more impressive as he tied for the team lead in touchdowns (with Sharik Mendes) with nine and led the Whalers in rushing, including a 215-yard effort (and a touchdown) in a 29-24 loss to powerful Xaverian. But, for the 5-foot-9 169-pounder, the best was yet to come. As a junior in 1993, he helped lead the Whalers to the first of back-to-back Div. 1 Super Bowl titles by rushing for for well over 1,000 yards and a school-record 27 regular-season touchdowns. Seven times he scored multiple touchdowns, including a school single-season record six in a 55-22 rout of Xavier High of Connecticut. A year late JoJo capped his high school career with a carbon-copy effort. He tied his regular-season record for touchdowns with 27 and, for the second straight postseason game, scored a touchdown that helped the Whalers win a Super Bowl. He ended his career by finding the end zone in 18 of his last 20 regular-season games, scoring a school-record 68 regular-season touchdowns and becoming the school’s all-time rushing leader. When opponents had the ball, JoJo remained on the field as a cornerback in the Whalers’ secondary and was rewarded for his outstanding play by being named winner of the Otto Graham Achievement Award as the area’s outstanding senior football player. JoJo accepted a football scholarship from the University of New Hampshire, but later transferred to UMass Dartmouth.(SouthcoastToday.com)Jaren Goodine- Jaren Goodine, New Bedford, JuniorGoodine had a knack for making big plays on offense for New Bedford and led the Whalers with nine touchdowns. The Southeast Conference All-Star carried the ball 106 times for 786 yards and scored six rushing TDs. He also split out at wide receiver and had 23 catches for 289 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Goodine returned a kickoff for another score. “He was smooth and explosive,” said New Bedford head coach Mark DeBrito. “He could cut and take off. He was a home run hitter.”
