Movie Night Crew? More like Miyazaki Night Crew! Eh? Eh? This week we felt like watching something fantastical, and what better way is there to get lost in fantasy than a Studio Ghibli film? We drank in the soft colors, beautiful music, bisexual energy, and all the WhatTheFuckery business throughout. Our resident Howl expert Haley guides us through this wizard romp with context as to what exactly was lost in translation when adapting the book to film. Positively tubular to the max!! We TOTALLY felt like experiencing some 90's fashion, outdated slang, and baby Paul Rudd, so naturally we watched the 1995 classic Clueless! An adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma, this movie sparked a lot of conversation. We talk about being old, creepy incest relationships, and theories on how raincoat material snuck into the fashion industry. A 90’s film that opened the floodgates of teenage libido for several of our members back in the day. We discuss topics such as the bisexual gaze, semi-clueless actors, and the challenges of adapting Shakespeare in the modern age. It’s Brooke’s birthday this week!! Well okay, it was last month. REGARDLESS, she picked one of her favorite movies from last year, and possibly in general, the 2021 Oscar winning movie Nomadland. We were so pleasantly surprised by this movie’s peaceful nature in general, and it made us long for the open road even if we would have to crap in a bucket.

So this week, Tina decided to take the crew on her 2022 journey of watching every Nicolas Cage film. We agreed to go ahead and get one his craziest films out of the way by watching a little cult classic, The Wicker Man. It’s Lelia’s 30th birthday!! This week she brought one of her favorite movies for the crew to watch, the 1987 Norman Jewison film Moonstruck starring Cher and Nicolas Cage. We get into our first Nic Cage experiences, the audacity of Cher’s perfect hair, and the warm happy feelings that movies like this give us.
