Romans 13: Does God Expect You to Obey Bad Leaders
2026/10/05
Does God expect Christians to obey bad leaders? What happens when the person in authority is wrong—and where does submission to authority end and obedience to God begin?
In Romans 13, Paul tells believers to submit to governing authorities, but he was writing to Christians living under the Roman Empire. So does Romans 13 mean Christians must obey everything a government or leader tells them to do? What about the biblical examples of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, and the apostles who chose to obey God rather than man?
In this episode of Word On The Way, Nicole McKay and Vanessa Trinidad walk through Romans 13 and discuss biblical submission, honoring authority, paying what we owe, what genuine Christian love looks like, spiritual complacency, holiness, and Paul's urgent command to WAKE UP.
We'll also tackle a powerful question: Are we sometimes asking God to deliver us from something we're still making provision for?
If I only submit when I agree, I'm not really submitting—I'm agreeing.
Eventually is one of the most dangerous words in Christianity.
Don't ask God to starve what you keep feeding.
Romans 12 told us to be transformed. Romans 13 shows us what it looks like to live as someone who has been transformed.
The night is almost over. The day is coming.
Wake up. Take off the darkness. Put on Jesus.

Romans 12 — You Can’t Follow Jesus and Stay the Same
2026/09/28
Can you follow Jesus and stay the same? In Romans 12, Paul shows us what a truly transformed Christian life should look like—and it goes far beyond simply saying you believe in Jesus.
In this episode of Word On The Way, Nicole McKay and Vanessa Trinidad walk through Romans 12 and discuss what it means to become a living sacrifice, renew your mind, discover and use your spiritual gifts, love people genuinely, stay spiritually on fire, and respond differently when people hurt you.
Romans 12 challenges us to stop conforming to the patterns of this world and allow God to transform the way we think and live. What happens when someone really did you wrong? Does forgiveness mean they should still have access to you? How do you keep your spiritual fire burning? And what does it actually mean to overcome evil with good?
The Gospel isn't supposed to leave us unchanged. A renewed mind should eventually produce a transformed life.
You can't follow Jesus and stay the same. You should look different.

Romans 11 : The Danger of Thinking You're Better Than Them
2026/09/22
What happens when receiving God’s grace starts making us think we’re better than the people who still need it?
In Romans 11, Paul gives a serious warning to believers: “Be not highminded, but fear.” Israel’s unbelief, the remnant, hardened hearts, the olive tree, Gentiles being grafted in, the fullness of the Gentiles, and the promise that “all Israel shall be saved” all lead us to a powerful truth—we have absolutely no reason to boast.
In this episode of Word On The Way, Nicole and Vanessa walk through Romans 11 and answer questions like: Has God rejected Israel? What is the remnant? What does it mean when God hardens a heart? Who are the natural and wild olive branches? What does it mean that Gentile believers were grafted in? What is the fullness of the Gentiles? What does “all Israel shall be saved” mean? And what does Romans 11:29 really mean when it says “the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable”?
We also confront the danger of spiritual pride and those dangerous words: “I would never…”
Because when we forget how much grace WE needed, it becomes easy to look down on the people who need grace now.
🔥 Grace doesn’t give you permission to look down on somebody. Grace reminds you that God had to reach down for you.
🔥 We want mercy for our weaknesses and justice for everybody else’s.
🔥 Don’t keep saying “no” to God and assume your heart will always be soft enough to say “yes” later.
🔥 You aren’t a trophy of your goodness. You’re a testimony of His mercy.
Romans 11 ultimately brings Jews and Gentiles back to the same place: we all need the mercy of God, and salvation is found in Jesus Christ.
Paul ends the chapter not in pride or argument, but in worship:
“For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.” — Romans 11:36

God Knows My Heart” — The Most Dangerous Phrase Christians Say? | Romans 10
2026/09/14
“God knows my heart.” We hear it all the time—but is that actually what the Bible teaches?
Romans 10 makes an incredibly clear statement about salvation: “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” So yes, the heart matters. But is simply saying “God knows my heart” enough?
In this episode of Word On The Way, Nicole and Vanessa walk through Romans 10 and unpack what Paul teaches about faith, salvation, confession, righteousness, hearing the Gospel, and calling on the name of Jesus.
We’re answering questions like: Can someone believe in God without surrendering to Jesus? Why does Romans 10 connect believing in your heart with confessing with your mouth? Can being sincere make you right with God? What does “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” actually mean? And why does Paul say faith comes by hearing the Word of Christ?
Romans 10 reminds us that salvation isn't about earning our way to God through religious works—but it also doesn't reduce Christianity to “God knows my heart.” The Gospel calls us to believe, confess, call on Jesus, and respond to the truth we've heard.
Whether you're studying Romans, wrestling with questions about salvation, or you've used the phrase “God knows my heart,” this conversation is for you.

Romans 9 Explained: Does God Choose Who Gets Saved? | Can God Be Trusted?
2026/09/14
Romans 9 is one of the most debated—and misunderstood—chapters in the Bible.
Does God choose who gets saved and who doesn’t? Why does Paul say, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated”? What does it mean that God has mercy on whom He wants to have mercy? Does Romans 9 eliminate free will? And most importantly… can God be trusted?
In this episode of Word On The Way, we walk through Romans 9 and tackle the difficult questions surrounding God’s sovereignty, election, mercy, Israel, Pharaoh, the potter and the clay, and human responsibility.
Rather than pulling individual verses out of context, we look at Paul’s entire argument and ask what Romans 9 is really saying—and what it means for believers today.
If you’ve ever struggled with Romans 9 or wondered whether God chooses some people for salvation and others for destruction, this conversation is for you.

Romans 4: How Do I Know If God Accepts Me?
2026/07/01
How do you know God accepts you?
Many people spend their lives trying to earn God's approval through good works, religious activity, church attendance, or personal effort. But is that how a person is made right with God?

Whether you're a longtime Christian, new to faith, or simply searching for answers about salvation, grace, and God's acceptance, Romans 4 provides life-changing truth that points directly to Jesus Christ.

Romans 2: Why Being Good Isn't Good Enough
2026/06/22
Many people assume they're right with God simply because they're not living in obvious rebellion. But Romans 2 exposes a deeper danger: religious deception. In Romans 1, Paul confronts open sin and rebellion. In Romans 2, he turns to the moral, religious person who thinks:"I'm okay because I'm not like them."The problem? God judges truthfully—not externally.Church attendance, Bible knowledge, Christian posts, ministry involvement, and religious activity can never replace genuine heart transformation. In this powerful Bible study, we'll examine:✅ The danger of performative Christianity✅ Why hearing truth is not the same as obeying truth✅ The difference between being planted and being rooted✅ Signs of shallow spiritual roots✅ How approval addiction can hinder spiritual growth✅ Why God looks at the heart, not appearances✅ The warning against religious pride and self-righteousness✅ What Romans 2 teaches about true surrender*Romans 2:13*"For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous."
