Description

Hey Modelers!  Welcome to the ModelGeeks Podcast, a place where we talk about anything and everything relating to scale models.  Sit back and buckle up for an exciting journey into the world of scale modeling.  It doesn’t matter whether you’re new to the hobby, been around since Moses, or that you build aircraft, armor, ships, or automobiles.  We hope to have a little bit for each of you.  Our format is simple; modeling news you can use with a few tips and techniques, some lighthearted banter (maybe a beer or two...) and most importantly, interaction with you, the listener!  Please feel free to drop us an email at: [email protected] and weigh in on whatever our show topic is.  You can also find us on the ModelGeeks Facebook Page or our website:  www.modelgeekspodcast.com.    In closing, thanks to all the ModelGeeks out there!  This podcast wouldn't exist without the tremendous support we have received from all the Geeks!  We really hope that you will download and make us a regular part of your modeling bench sessions.  As we always say... be excellent to each other and by all means, get out there and build something! Out from the Geeks...

MGPC Ep 134 RavenCon 2026, and Building Outside Your Genre
2026/10/24
Welcome to Episode 134 of The Modelgeeks Podcast! In this episode Mr. Chris King of the Shenandoah Valley Modelers joins us in studio to promote their club’s upcoming inaugural model show, RavenCon 2026 (ShenValleyModelers). We hope to see you out there for their show! Also, we’re going to discuss working outside of the subjects we typically model. What might drive you to build something other than what you’re typically known to build? What is a subject you’d never build? What have you built in the past that you’re not going to try again? We answer these questions and ask a few more. * NOTE: OK, the figure painter whose name I could not recall, Galina Sjtheva. Check out her FB page! From the Modelgeeks Podcast web page we take a look at the Listener Gallery and the fine work that has caught our eye. Mentioned in the Episode: Squadron "Raider Cars" Go check out some Squadron SLEDS from back in the day! Certainly something to inspire building outside your genre!   Share your work with us and the rest of the scale modeling community through our web page, or through our Facebook community page. MGPC Ep 133 "Is Your Stash Keeping You From Building and Finishing Kits?"
2026/10/10
Welcome to Episode 133 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!   In this episode, the Geeks are a man down with Nemo on work travel and the four remaining Geeks continue the show. We’ll kick things off with what’s happening in our Model World, run through the listener mail and from the Modelgeeks Podcast web page we take a look at the Listener Gallery and the fine work that has caught our eye. The Geeks run throught the show and contest calendar and mention some shows that are happening in the future. They also mention the Nats in Huntsville Alabama in July 2027. As for the Patreon winners for this episode they are: Pro Geek level: Andrew Deboer, and he was lucky enough to receive the new ICM 1/48 Lockheed Hudsom MK.III courtesy of Lionheart Hobby! The Beginner Geek level: Robert Morales, and he will be receiving a Detail and Scale, Color and Markings book in either electronic or print format from our good friends at Detail and Scale! For the Main Topic, the geeks discuss if your stash is keeping you from finishing models? Let's face it, a lot of us have several hundred models in our stashes and how that can become a barrier to finishing a kit.  Having a large stash makes it hard to figure out what to build next, and the geeks discuss if having a small stash can lead to the same thing as well as allowing you to finish more kits!  Share your work with us and the rest of the scale modeling community through our web page, or through our Facebook community page. We love seeing other people’s work. Who knows who you may inspire through your latest masterpiece! MGPC EP 132, “Lets talk 1/32, the “Big” Scale”
2026/09/26
Welcome to Episode 132 of The ModelGeeks Podcast! After a little bit of the usual Geeks banter, we catch up on what’s happening in our respective model worlds, what’s on the bench, what we’ve finished, and of course, what new plastic has somehow managed to follow us home! We then dig into Mail Call (keep those cards & letters coming folks!) and take a look at some great work from the Listener Gallery during Listener Spotlight. For our main topic, we’re going BIG! Episode 132 is “1/32 — The Big Scale.” The Geeks sit down for a modeler’s discussion about building aircraft in 1/32 scale. Why build big? What does the larger scale bring to the bench that the smaller scales don’t? We talk about the added detail, the opportunities for super-detailing, the growing selection of kits and aftermarket goodies, and of course some of the challenges that come along with these monsters — price, bench space, display space, and figuring out where the heck you’re going to put the thing when you’re finished! We also talk about some of the manufacturers and kits that have helped make 1/32 such a popular aircraft scale and share some of our own experiences, favorites, and opinions on building in the Big Scale. So clear some room off the bench, reinforce the display shelves, and join the Geeks as we talk 1/32! We would like to thank all our listeners out there for the continued support you have given the show. We hope to see you out and about as we hit the show circuit. If you happen to see us at a show, come on over and say hello — we may even put you in front of the mic! 2026/06/20
What’s Crack-a-Lack’n Modelgeeks! Welcome to Episode 126 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!  In this episode, the Modelgeeks give the usual run down on what's going on in their respective model worlds.  Nemo shares with the listeners that he will be featured on an upcoming MH-53E release from Furball-Aero design!  He also talks about the Red Pill 1/32 F-4B that finally landed in Southern Maryland.  May be the only one in Maryland!  The Geeks run through the listener email and give a little insight to the LCS program (hint: it is funny!) The listeners share that the Spitfire episode by El Presidentè was a “cracker” of an episode! (see what we did there) lol.  We received a ton of pics focused on your finished builds and uploaded them to the Modelgeeks website.  Keep ‘em coming!  Nemo also gives a tip on how to successfully apply 1Man Army masks and how to produce excellent results.  The topic for the Episode is “Are you a Builder or Collector?"   The geeks ask the question and give their thoughts on what they think and what it means to be either one.  The geeks give some pretty good explanations on which side of the coin you fall on and to keep it fun, no fence riding and you have to pick one or the other.  The Pro Geek for the Episode and the winner of the Hypersonic Models NF-104A conversion is: Jay Howard!  The Beginner Geek for the episode, and the recipient of a Detail and Scale title of your choice is: Jared Jamieson! For the main topic, we talk about how our "Modeling Lens" has evolved and changed.  As youngsters building models, we all built as much as we could and didn't pay attention to accuracy, properly thinned paint, PSI, or weathering, etc.. we just built, and loved every minute of it.   Compare that with how we view modeling almost 40 years later, and there are some significant changes in how we view the hobby.  It's a great topic and we hope you all give it a listen. Please feel free to interact with us through social media, Facebook, Instagram, and email:  [email protected] Be sure to check out our website: www.modelgeekspodcast.com. Make sure you check out our new group / community on Facebook, The ModelGeeks Model Shack We also want to thank each of our sponsors for their support. We are very lucky to have their support. MGPC Ep. 123 Let's Go Clubbin'!
2026/05/09
Welcome to Episode 123 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!   In this episode The Geeks are talking model clubs! Why have them? Do you belong to one? What makes a “good” one? How can you start one? Stand by, take a listen, and we’ll get you the answers! We recently attended IPMS Northern Virginia’s (https://www.novaipms.org/) annual contest and show, “The Model Classic”. We’ll talk about the cool models we saw on display, and we also caught up with Mr. Ben Pluth who was in town to present one of the special awards, the “Walt Champlin Best Cold War U.S. Aircraft Memorial Award”. We also had the opportunity to talk to Mr. John Figueroa, Convention Chairman for the 2026 IPMS USA National Convention, happening Aug 5th – 8th, 2026. John and Mr. Tony Faust sat down and gave us an update on how all the pieces are coming together to make 2026 another IPMS Nationals to remember.  Mr. Faust also hosts the Odin & Aesop Military History Podcast, well worth a listen! Be careful, you may learn something! Mentioned in the Episode: IPMS USA National Convention  Odin & Aesop Military History Podcast   Share your work with us and the rest of the scale modeling community through our web page, or through our Facebook community page.
