Elizabeth Farrelly, The Architecture of Happiness
2021/11/14
Elizabeth Farrelly, the self described "Renaissance Woman' says the combination of practicality and beauty is so dang important. Originally from New Zealand, she's an architect (explains the practicality), artist, author and columnist for the Sydney Morning Herald. She's just about to release her sixth book, titled "Killing Sydney".
How does this practical, yet aesthetically focused Sydney sider calm her farm?

Damien Leith
2021/11/11
From the Archives:
Damien Leith, the Irish sweetheart of Australian Idol back in 2006. He's still living in Australia, and has just moved down to the Gong to work as a radio announcer - he's certainly got the voice for it.
When we asked Damien about his mental health journey, he didn't hesitate - OCD. His struggles with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder extend back to his childhood, where he developed what he describes as "proper OCD."

Gary Jubelin, Former Homicide Detective
2021/11/10
From the Archives:
Australia loves a homicide detective, but even in that eminent group Gary Jubelin holds a special place.
After being the public face of the William Tyrell investigation, the little boy who vanished from Kendall in 2014, Gary was forced to step down from the police after illegally recording four phone calls relating to the investigation.
He's written a book, "I Catch Killers and has a podcast of the same name.

Liyah Knight
2021/11/09
Liyah Knight is a young muso with wisdom beyond her years.
In 25 short years on the planet, she's already achieved about 3 lives worth of things. Of course, she's a thoughtful singer-songwriter right now, but she's also played college basketball in the US and worked as a producer for Sky News. How's that for variety?!
With all these experiences under her belt, it's clear Liyah has a good head on her shoulders.
So, here she is with some of her best advice for looking after the head on YOUR shoulders.

Virginia Gay (She's back!)
2021/11/08
The wonderful Virginia Gay is back with us once more.
Not only is she returning to the podcast, but she's also returned to Australia after a stint in the US.
It was a big trip for her in more ways than one.
Not only did she have to battle through COVID (quite literally, she actually got it), but her time in the states was the first time Virginia had been truly cut off from all the support systems she'd built up down under.
Suffice to say, adjusting to that reality wasn't easy. In fact, Virginia will be the first to admit that her adjustment period led to her engaging in the art of “floor sobbing” more than once.
But through the trials and tribulations of living alone in America, Virginia's learnt a lot about recognizing her own strengths and the power of being truly vulnerable..

Ryan Shelton
2021/11/07
Comedian and multi-skilled creative Ryan Shelton is, obviously, a man of immense and varied talents. Arguably the greatest skill he's developed though, has been his ability to survive over 20 years of being best friends with Hamish Blake.
The two first met in school, quickly bonding over a mutual love of comedy. That passion for laughter would carry through to their uni days, as Ryan and Hamish -alongside Tim Bartley and Andy Lee - created sketch show "Radio Karate" on channel 31.
At the time, Ryan believed the show would be his first and last foray into comedy before pursuing a career in advertising. But Hamish, in tandem with (guess who) Andy Lee, had other ideas.
Of course, Hamish and Andy went on to become the star duo we know them as today, and their wild ride of success has been fun for all involved.
And usually, when your best friend is out there kicking goals – you’re celebrating with them every step of the way. But Ryan struggled to be truly happy for his best mate.
After all, how could he be when Hamish was living out Ryan’s comedy dreams.
For a long time that feeling of envy was hard for Ryan to admit to himself, let alone Hamish.
But eventually, in 2019, during a dinner between himself and Hamish – Ryan finally worked up the courage and found the right moment to tell the truth.
Here’s the story of how it all happened.

Sai Wai Foo
2021/11/03
Put simply, fashion designer Sai Wai Foo is a delight.
Not only is she immensely talented, but she’s achieved it all with an endearingly sweet personality. A bit like your coolest, kindest, down-to-earth aunt. You know the one.
Despite her personality, though, Sai Wai Foo had to work hard through her childhood to subvert stringent family expectations and mountains of pressure in order to forge her own, more artistic path forward.
This is the story of how she did it.
Thank you to Uncle Jack Charles for the acknowledgement of country.

Paul Dempsey
2021/11/02
From the Archives:
Lead singer of 'Something For Kate' Paul Dempsey was way ahead of the zeitgeist as usual when he started talking about his mental health challenges many years ago. He tried back then to encourage others to talk about it and to reduce the stigma around things like depression.
So where do we find this wise old owl now?

Yumi Stynes
2021/10/31
From The Archives:
Yumi Stynes has been killing it for such a long time now, and still remaining delightful! She has a podcast on the ABC called "Ladies, We Need To Talk.", and a book titled "The Zero Fucks Cookbook"...that's my type of cooking.
Something that's important to Yumi is identifying what's really fun for her. If it's not fun, she says no, if it is, she says yes - all very simple isn't it?
