DEVELOPING AN UNBLEMISHED MIND
2025/09/27
Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast. This is the Dhamma session on "Developing an Unblemished Mind", which was was conducted via zoom. We deep-dive into Venerable Sāriputta and Venerable MahāMoggallāna’s teaching in the Anaṅgaṇa Sutta (MN 5). In this teaching, Venerable Sāriputta spoke of four persons - with and without blemishes and knowing it and not knowing it - explaining which were called inferior and superior using a simile of a bronze dish. He then gives a masterclass on evil, unwholesome wishes associated with anger and bitterness as blemishes, with some powerful similes to help us understand how to develop an unblemished mind. And Venerable MahāMoggallāna contributes as the questioner to Venerable Sāriputta's clarifier in this teaching, as well as providing a comprehensive summary at the end rejoicing in Venerable Sāriputta's instruction to the bhikkhus. THE BUDDHA'S ANTIDOTE FOR WAR
2025/08/21
Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast This is the Dhamma talk with Metta Centre (SYD) on "The Buddha's Antidote for War". This session was conducted via zoom on 18 August 2025. Whether we find ourselves heading towards the next world war, or getting into physical fights, or an online battle infused with hate speech, or even verbal sparring with colleagues, friends or family, or simply the war that goes on in our mind, the Buddha has the antidote for all wars. In this session, we will look at what war means in the context of the Buddha's teachings, the challenges of getting pulled into different kinds of wars (in body, speech and mind), and explore the Buddha's antidote for all wars, which starts with the supramundane practice of loving kindness based on the Karaṇīyametta Sutta (Snp 1.8). Blessings of the Triple Gem. Theruwan saranai **The full Dhamma session with Q&A will be published to Metta Centre's YT channel** https://www.youtube.com/c/SuttaMeditationSeries/playlists, or click on 'Playlists' in the top menu bar. WHY WE SHOULD BECOME SKILLED IN THE WAYS OF OUR OWN MIND
2025/07/24
Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast This is the Dhamma talk with Metta Centre (SYD) on "Why we should become skilled in the ways of our own mind". This session was conducted via zoom. Drawing from the Sacitta Sutta (AN 10.51), we will examine the Buddha's teaching on how to become skilled in the ways or nature of our own mind. The Buddha taught to train our minds as if our clothes or head were on fire. Through this, and another simile, he highlighted the benefit of regular self-examination towards abandoning unskilled states and developing skilled states of the mind. In this session, we will explore how we can apply this powerful teaching, which helps us to establish contemplation of the mind, undertake noble washing and activate the noble eightfold path. Blessings of the Triple Gem. Theruwan saranai **The full Dhamma session with Q&A will be published to Metta Centre's YT channel** https://www.youtube.com/c/SuttaMeditationSeries/playlists, or click on 'Playlists' in the top menu bar. *SHORT EXTRACT* Overcoming self-sabotage in our sutta meditations
2025/03/24
Welcome back to the Sutta Meditation Series Podcast. A short extract or audio clip from a recent Dhamma Half-Day Program, held on 17 March 2025, where we intensely developed sutta meditations to understand the Physical Nutriment (form). This short audio clip serves as an encouragement to anyone developing the insight pathways or sutta meditations following the Buddha's instructions. External challenges are usually obvious, but what is less apparent is how we self-sabotage ourselves when it comes to developing or meditating on the Buddha's instructions. Take what is useful.
