Description
Travis and Annie may not always agree about movies, but they enjoy hashing out what film creators are saying. These thoroughly amateur film lovers take on decades and subgenres to discuss how the films reflect specific cultures and humanity at large. But only if Bonnie-the-Great-Dane will shut up long enough to let them record.

"The Speak-ies" (1960's)
2026/08/10
Travis and Annie are joined by co-hosts Alec and Megan for one final trip through the 1960s, celebrating the season with an evening of completely unnecessary awards and highly questionable judgment. Along the way, they hand out dubious honors, play a game of Two Truths and a Lie, check in with a few friends of the show, and once again venture into the lawless wasteland of Bad Letterboxd Reviews. They also pull back the curtain on the next mini-series, Let the Movie Spook!, revealing the first film in an all-new horror lineup. It's part victory lap, part reunion, and part excuse to relive the best, worst, and weirdest moments from a decade that gave us cowboys, spies, hustlers, zombies, apes, and one very confident black rectangle. Black tie is encouraged. Accuracy is optional.
"2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968
2026/06/27
Travis and Annie drift into 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), where the dialogue is sparse, the silences are expensive, and the giant black rectangle somehow ends up doing most of the talking. As they bring their tour of the 1960s to a close, they admire Kubrick's meticulous craftsmanship, reflect on a film that reshaped science fiction, and discover that appreciating a movie and fully understanding it are not always the same thing. It's mesmerizing, maddening, influential, and completely unconcerned with whether you're keeping up.
"Night of the Living Dead" (1968)
2026/06/05
Returning guest Megan joins Travis and Annie for Night of the Living Dead (1968), where a quiet trip to the countryside quickly turns into a case study in panic, poor communication, and aggressively bad group projects. Between discussions of Barbara's usefulness, the film's lasting legacy, and several inexplicably excellent segues, they explore how a tiny independent horror movie became a genre-defining classic. It's clever, unsettling, and a strong reminder that being trapped in a house with strangers has never improved anyone's decision-making.
"Planet of the Apes" (1968)
2026/05/29
Travis and Annie crash-land on Planet of the Apes (1968), where the atmosphere is questionable, the existential questions arrive in bulk, and Charlton Heston’s butt somehow becomes part of the discourse. They wrestle with a film that keeps asking enormous questions without always waiting around for answers, admire its audacity, and inevitably arrive at that twist. It’s ambitious, slightly unhinged, and very confident about things it may or may not fully understand.
"The Odd Couple" (1968)
2026/01/18
Travis and Annie, with guest Alec, crash Oscar’s apartment and discover a world where chaos has furniture, laundry grows legs, and Felix’s neat freak energy threatens to implode reality. The Odd Couple (1968) is full of laughs, surprisingly tender friendship moments… and enough random horse references to make you question your own sanity. It’s messy, it’s ridiculous, and somehow the horses are the most stable thing in the room.
"Torn Curtain" (1966)
2026/01/08
In this episode of Let the Movie Speak!, Travis and Annie open the file on Torn Curtain (1966), a Cold War thriller that quietly slips past expectations and starts playing its own game. Paul Newman, Julie Andrews, and Hitchcock all seem to be operating with information we don’t have yet, and that’s half the fun. We talk cover identities, controlled chaos, and why this mission works better than its reputation suggests. Call it underrated, misfiled, or hiding in plain sight—either way, it’s worth listening in before the curtain drops...or tears...or...whatever.
"Mirage" (1965)
2025/12/24
In this episode of Let the Movie Speak!, Travis and Annie slog their way through Mirage (1960), a Cold War paranoia thriller that’s far more confusing than clever. Gregory Peck spends the movie being handsomely lost, the plot is so baffling it feels like it’s actively dodging explanation, and the fight scenes play out like two guys gently asking each other to stop. We talk shady corporations, dialogue that thinks complexity equals depth, and a movie that really wants you to believe it’s smart—even when it clearly isn’t. Stylish in flashes and strangely exhausting, Mirage is one of those films that leaves you with plenty to think about—mostly about what just happened.
"Come Blow Your Horn" (1963)
2025/11/09
Frank Sinatra plays a Manhattan bachelor whose life is basically a cautionary tale in leisure suits. His naïve little brother moves in, bad decisions multiply, and there’s a painfully stupid song that somehow made it into a Hollywood movie. Travis and Annie revel in the sibling chaos, mock the hollow fantasy of bachelorhood, and silently judge Sinatra for aging like a legend while making life choices we wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot cocktail stirrer.
"A Fistful of Dollars" (1964)
2025/07/24
Travis and Annie ride into Sergio Leone’s dusty, dangerous world, but have no fear. They’ve brought along their secret weapon: a guest whose jokes hit harder than Eastwood’s stare. They break down ponchos, power plays, and why silent men with squinty eyes always seem to win. Can you really trust a town with two crime families and one coffin guy?
"The Great Escape" (1963)
2025/07/21
Annie and Travis find themselves prisoners in need of escape of a classic movie's massive reputation. Does a movie that tackles this material have any right to evoke laughs? Why does everyone love that darned motorcycle jump so much? Tune in while they dig into it.
"High and Low" (1963)
2025/07/08
In this episode, Annie and Travis trek into Kurisowa's sweaty crime thriller to see if they can find the kidnapped child, attempt to decipher the precise blocking, and get to the bottom of what really makes a terrible shoe. Listen in, share, subscribe, and comment wherever you get your podcasts!
"West Side Story" (1961 & 2021)
2025/07/01
Ah, the soothing snaps and whistles of an American classic. Broadway meets Hollywood in this brand new double-episode. That's right, double the movies means double the takes and double the viewing exhaustion from the hosts. Is the original an undeniable cinematic juggernaut? Did Spielberg do something close to the impossible half a century later? If Tony sings the word "Maria" one more time will she fall in love with him even faster? We answer all these and more in the latest episode.
"Breathless" (1960)
2025/06/24
Travis and Annie continue to see the 60's cinema they've shared from slightly different lenses. This one is a supposedly groundbreaking French New Wave classic that features an insufferable protagonist, jump cuts galore, and a story that reveals more on a rewatch than a first time viewing. Listen in and let us know whether Annie, in fact, has a point.
"The Hustler" (1961)
2025/06/18
Travis and Annie begin an unlucky number of episodes exploring what 60's cinema has to offer. This week, they're staring into the (black and white) baby blues of a young Paul Newman in a story that includes pool, broken relationships, even more broken thumbs (and dreams), and yes, more pool. Listen in and leave a rating, review or comment!
"The Invitation" (2015)
2024/07/08
Travis and Annie dive into the unsettling world of a party turned nightmare, where buried secrets and mounting tension lead to a shocking revelation. Together they pick at the last bites of the Dinner Party series in order to dissect Karyn Kusama's gripping thriller and decide whether or not it is, in fact, a vampire movie.
