Young carers and identity: Who I am
2026/06/11
When your childhood is shaped entirely by responsibility, it can be hard to know where you actually begin. In this episode, host Hettie is joined by Jemima and Ruthie from MYTIME Young Carers - a brilliant charity based in Dorset supporting young carers aged 5 to 25.
Together, we talk about what it’s really like trying to figure out who you are when you’ve spent your life caring for someone. We open up about the exhaustion of having to be the responsible one, and the FOMO that comes with missing out on normal childhood milestones. We also tackle that heavy, complicated guilt that hits when you start thinking about moving out or just wanting a life of your own.
This podcast was co-produced with the amazing Youth Action & Advisory Board (YAAB) at MYTIME Young Carers.
Young carer misconceptions: people, not problems
2026/06/11
What does the world think a young carer looks like? And how far is that image from the actual truth?
I'm Hettie, and in this episode, I'm joined by Bradley and Felicity from MYTIME Young Carers - a brilliant charity based in Dorset supporting young carers aged 5 to 25. We aim to dig into the massive gap between public perception and our actual lived experiences. There is a huge disconnect between what people think our lives are like versus the daily reality we navigate and that disconnect matters more than people realise.
Together, we share personal, unfiltered stories, ask the hard questions, and voice the things that usually go unsaid. It's time to bridge the gap between their assumptions and our reality.

Young carers and resentment: the bitter pill we swallow
2026/06/11
It’s a heavy confession, but it’s a reality for so many young carers. I'm Jemima, and in this episode, I'm joined by Moriah and Nicole from MYTIME Young Carers - a brilliant charity based in Dorset supporting young carers aged 5 to 25. Together, we are diving deep into the messy, complex, and often unspoken layers of resentment.
Sometimes, that resentment is directed at well-meaning friends who just don't get it. Other times, it’s a quieter, heavier frustration aimed at the person you love and care for, or even at other young carers whose situations seem just a little bit easier than yours. Navigating these feelings often comes with a massive dose of guilt, but you shouldn't have to carry it alone.
