4. η κυρία Σκαγιά ξέρει από τετράδια
2026/09/17
Popi Skagia loves BTS, traveling, learning new things and she runs Greece's biggest stationery company, the one her father founded 70 years ago. There isn't a single greek person in the last three generations that doesn't know or love SKAG. Having Mrs. Skagia on the podcast is a privilege and a joy, but most of all it's a masterclass in gratitude and humility whilst serving the people around you in the best possible way. • here's the transcript • here are the greek lessons • drop me a message: sixthousandislands (at) gmail (dοt) cοm Support the show
3. tailgate party με τον Jake
2026/02/06
American Football is a subject I was completely unfamiliar with. I’ve always watched the Halftime Show because I need to know if someone can do it better than Beyoncé, Shakira, Kendrick and Lady Gaga but other than that, I had never paid attention to the sport itself. BUT OH BOY, IT’S FASCINATING. Each game lasts forever but it somehow manages to be thrilling, and my friend and student Jake explained the game as well as the culture surrounding it. SO FUN! • here's the transcript • here are the greek lessons • drop me a message: sixthousandislands (at) gmail (dοt) cοm Support the show

1. πολλές τυχαιότητες μαζεύτηκαν για να γίνω εγώ ανθρωπολόγος
2025/10/15
Some people were born to be singers because they live and breathe music. Others were born to be doctors. My darling husband Stamatis was born to be an anthropologist, a science we both adore so much. I’ve always had so many questions, some of which he answers in this episode. • here's the transcript • here are the greek lessons • drop me a message: sixthousandislands (at) gmail (dοt) cοm  Support the show
27. είμαστε όλοι φρούτα εδώ (season finale)
2025/03/20
‘Business’ behaviour has never come naturally to me. What is a KPI? An MVP? A target audience? A pitch? A pivot? Competitive advantage? Are these basketball terms??? Because they sure do sound like basketball terms. Someone years ago told me to ‘watch my competitors’ and I did like my life depended on it but let’s be real, we’re not talking about the stock market here, we’re talking about intermediate greek teaching. My niche is so niche that most students and teachers know each other’s name, occupation and home address; most of us hang out online AND in real life. And you can’t compete with that. • here's the transcript • here are the greek lessons • drop me a message: sixthousandislands (at) gmail (dοt) cοm Support the show
26. όλα όσα συζητήσαμε πριν φτιάξουμε ομελέτα
2025/03/06
I met Stamatis and I instantly knew I’d marry him, and three months later, I did. The greatest love story of all time is mine. • here's the transcript • here are the greek lessons • drop me a message: sixthousandislands (at) gmail (dοt) cοm Support the show
25. μαθήματα MLM
2025/02/20
Some ‘‘language teacher’’ tried to scam me into joining their MLM scheme which is hilarious in hindsight but OOOO I was angry when it happened. Fraud exists everywhere but it sucks even more when it targets language teachers or students. What we do is important, we have a duty of care to our students and to the languages themselves IT’S ALL SO PRECIOUS PLEASE STOP BEING YUCKY. • here's the transcript • here are the greek lessons • drop me a message: sixthousandislands (at) gmail (dοt) cοm Support the show
24. δεν ξαναγίνομαι νταντά σκύλων
2025/02/06
Have you ever watched Yu-Gi-Oh? The protagonist is a timid boy who sometimes gets possessed by a Pharaoh spirit that makes him more intimidating and THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS TO BORDER COLLIES WHEN THEY GO INTO ‘WORK MODE’. Inside the house they are the silliest cutest puppies but the moment they step outside they lock in and there’s nothing you can do. So no more Yu-Gi-Oh dogsitting for a while, thank you. I’m sticking to cats for a while. Or forever. • here's the transcript • here are the greek lessons • drop me a message: sixthousandislands (at) gmail (dοt) cοm  Support the show
23. επιτέλους, είμαι νωχελική
2025/01/23
Because *I live in a society*, there’s a part of my brain that seems to think that Doing Things All the Time equals Worth, or something. Then Rheumatoid Arthritis came with some VERY persuasive arguments (chronic pain and fatigue) and I have now achieved a more mindful and slow lifestyle, namaste. • here's the transcript • here are the greek lessons • drop me a message: sixthousandislands (at) gmail (dοt) cοm Support the show
22. διαβατήρια για τουρίστριες
2025/01/09
Life in Britain has spoiled me greatly, because it has set my expectations very high when it comes to how efficiently I can do government-related things, and I always forget that in Greece, government-related things are a Herculean task, or, better, a Sisyphean task: endless and futile. We’re all very good at lifting boulders in this country. • here's the transcript • here are the greek lessons • drop me a message: sixthousandislands (at) gmail (dοt) cοm Support the show
21. στην Αθήνα έχει ωραίες γάτες
2024/12/26
Athens is not my favourite city on Earth but I can acknowledge there’s *something* about it that makes it endearing. I think it’s the small oases (museums, monuments, restaurants, shops, events) amidst the complete chaos that makes you feel like you’re on a treasure hunt. And I LOVE a good treasure hunt. • here's the transcript • here are the greek lessons • drop me a message: sixthousandislands (at) gmail (dοt) cοm Support the show
20. προγραμματικές δηλώσεις
2024/12/12
I occasionally get career FOMO and ask myself and the people around me if I should be doing something else, but when I look at *everything else* and look at my own work, I realise time and time again that I have everything I wanted. • here's the transcript • here are the greek lessons • drop me a message: sixthousandislands (at) gmail (dοt) cοm Support the show
19. είναι το στρώμα μου μονό
2024/04/12
I used to sleep on a yoga mat, then arthritis knocked on my door (and my joints) so I had to buy a mattress LIKE EVERYONE ELSE and I’m shocked at how hard it is to find a mattress & pillow that work for me?? I have developed major beef with memory foam. Worst material ever, whoever created it definitely hated arthritics. I yearn for sleeping on the floor again but alas, the joints crave softness. But firm. Do you have that in Talalay latex? • here's the transcript • here are the greek lessons • drop me a message: sixthousandislands (at) gmail (dοt) cοm  Support the show
18. πέφτω και χτυπιέμαι σαν ψάρι
2024/03/28
Take a (ginger) shot every time I make an episode where I make some major ‘announcement’ about the future of the podcast / the channel / my career. I’m still here and it’s all intact, don’t worry. I did briefly think of becoming a product designer or work in fashion, but I later realised that I just like looking at beautiful things. • here's the transcript • here are the greek lessons • drop me a message: sixthousandislands (at) gmail (dοt) cοm Support the show
17. τρίχες
2024/03/15
I went to a Galentine’s event and they delivered on NONE of the things they had promised. Literally nothing happened. It’s my fault for having expectations but GURL, there was supposed to be an Outfit Competition. I walked in that event like Zendaya herself, expecting a citizenship, a damehood and THE KEY TO THE CITY for how good I look(ed). I blew everyone out of the water, but like Eurovision 2020, no contest took place. Beauty is pain. • here's the transcript • here are the greek lessons • drop me a message: sixthousandislands (at) gmail (dοt) cοm Support the show
