Ep 3. McDonalds, DOV and a naughty Stop out of Checkpoint
2021/07/26
Welcome to episode 3 of The Trading Diary! This week we look at the stock portfolio we are building and look at some of the issues we face when we are stopped out of a position. Market manipulation, stop hunt, markets out to get you? Truth is it doesn't really matter. Price fell to a level that invalidated our thesis for a while, it doesn't matter if it went straight back up after as it could of kept falling! We talk about the psychology of this, new positions we added to our portfolio, risk management and more. Don't forget, Discord link is being posted below and Youtube channel is coming soon! Keep backtesting, protect your risk, keep grinding! As a general rule, you should only trade in financial products that you are familiar with and understand the risk associated with them. The risk warning described in each financial product below is not exhaustive, you should carefully consider your investment experience, financial situation, investment objective, risk tolerance level and consult your independent financial adviser as to the suitability of your situation prior making any investment.
Ep 2. Why we Started Trading
2021/07/23
Before we get into the nuts and bolts of trading, sometimes we need to strip everything back and find our 'why'. Seems a strange question but stick with me. Maybe you have traded for a week, month or years with little to no success. But what is success to you, and what are you measuring your performance against. We can answer that question by first looking at 'why we started trading'.  Chances are like me you started trading because popular culture, films, TV, Social media showed the stock market and trading as a slick, glamorous, wealthy, cool lifestyle. We see characters on our screens transforming into rich happy people (Wolf of Wall Street, Limitless) and when that isn't in our face Youtube normally is with people promising fortunes and a life just like theirs. So who can blame you for having un-realistic expectations. The quicker we accept that our 'why' for starting trading is mis-guided and un-realistic the quicker we can actually make the informed decision of whether trading is even for us?  I discuss all this and more in this episode of The Trading Diary.
