Are Nigerian 'Intellectuals' overrated?
2026/10/09
From television studios and newspaper columns to X spaces, podcasts, and YouTube channels, Nigeria has no shortage of people regarded as public intellectuals. They shape political debates, influence public opinion, and often position themselves as the nation's moral and intellectual compass.
In this episode, we explore what it really means to be an intellectual. We examine the difference between knowledge and wisdom, expertise and confidence, scholarship and influence.
From podcast gurus and YouTube philosophers to viral commentators and X-thread experts, we ask a difficult question: Has social media democratized intellectual discourse, or has it created a culture where visibility is mistaken for intelligence?
Join us as we unpack the rise of the social media intellectual, why many of them are overrated, and what genuine intellectual engagement looks like in an age of endless content and shrinking attention span
The Cost of Being Young in Nigeria
2026/09/27
What does it really cost to be young in Nigeria today?
In this episode, we unpack the realities that many young Nigerians are navigating every day.
From the financial pressures of surviving in a challenging economy to the constant race for career growth and stability, we explore what it means to build a future in uncertain times.
We also discuss the rising cost of modern relationships, the emotional and mental toll of trying to "keep up", and why more young people are questioning whether they can create the life they want at home.
Of course, no conversation about the Nigerian youth experience would be complete without addressing the ever-present Japa debate: is leaving the country the solution, or just another difficult trade-off?
This is an honest conversation about ambition, survival, identity, and the hidden costs of chasing a better life.
What Northern Nigeria is Really Like - Josh's Foray Upnorth
2026/09/11
What really happens when a Southerner spends time travelling across Northern Nigeria?
In this episode, Josh shares stories, observations and unexpected lessons from his recent journey across several northern states.
We unpack some of the biggest misconceptions Southerners often have about the North, the places and people that surprised him the most, and how the reality on the ground compares to the picture often painted by the media.
From unforgettable encounters with strangers and surprising acts of hospitality to fascinating food discoveries and local delicacies, Josh reflects on the moments that challenged his assumptions and broadened his perspective.
We also explore differences in lifestyle, religion, community life and culture, along with the most beautiful places he visited during the trip.
The conversation goes beyond travel, touching on what the North does particularly well, what other parts of the country can learn from it, and the valuable lessons that come from stepping outside your comfort zone and experiencing Nigeria firsthand.
Whether you've travelled up North before or only know it through headlines and stereotypes, this episode offers a thoughtful, honest and eye-opening look at a region many Nigerians think they know, but often don't.

Love, Money & Reality: Navigating Finances in a Relationship
2026/08/14
Money is one of the most important topics in any relationship, yet it is often the hardest conversation to have.
In this insightful episode, we explore why finances can become a source of tension, misunderstanding, and even conflict between partners. From different spending habits and financial backgrounds to expectations around saving, investing, and lifestyle choices, we uncover the real reasons money often impacts relationships more than people expect.
We also discuss the essential “Money Conversation” every couple should have, including how to talk openly about income, debt, financial goals, responsibilities, and long-term plans without judgement or resentment. Whether you're dating, engaged, married, or building a future together, learning to communicate honestly about money can strengthen trust and create a healthier partnership.
Finally, we look at practical ways to build wealth together, aligning financial goals, creating shared plans, and turning money into a tool for growth rather than division.
Join us for a candid discussion on balancing love, finances, and reality while creating a secure future together.
The Equality Illusion: Can We Ever Achieve Social Justice?
2026/07/03
In this episode, we explore the origins of social injustice, examining the historical, economic, political, and psychological forces that have shaped unequal societies across time. We ask whether certain forms of inequality are inevitable and whether existing justifications for social hierarchies still hold up in the modern world.
We then turn our attention to the current state of social justice movements. From civil rights and gender equality to economic justice and identity politics, we discuss the victories, shortcomings, and growing criticisms of contemporary activism. Are today's movements bringing societies closer to justice, or have they become trapped by division, ideology, and performative politics?
Finally, we tackle the biggest question of all: Is a genuinely egalitarian society possible? Can human beings create a world where opportunity, dignity, and fairness are shared by all, or will inequality always emerge in one form or another?
Join us for a thoughtful conversation on fairness, power, equality, and the enduring human pursuit of a more just society. This episode moves beyond slogans and culture wars to examine the deeper questions at the heart of social justice itself.
Where are all the Nigerian Talents?
2026/07/03
In this episode, we examine the question raised by Moniepoint CEO Tosin Eniolorunda at the May 2026 edition of The Platform: Where are all the Nigerian talents?
Tosin argued that the growing appeal of vices such as internet fraud and hook-up culture is contributing to a shortage of talent and skilled young people. While we acknowledge the concerns he raises, we challenge the idea that these are the primary causes of Nigeria's talent problem.
Our argument is different: Nigeria is not suffering from a lack of talented young people. Rather, we are failing to create enough opportunities, institutions, and ecosystems where talent can be discovered, nurtured, and refined.
Too many young Nigerians possess enormous potential but lack access to the mentorship, training, creative spaces, apprenticeships, communities, and long-term development programmes needed to transform that potential into excellence.
We explore the current reality facing ambitious young Nigerians and ask difficult questions about what happens after the headlines, conferences, and motivational speeches.
We also highlight some of the initiatives championed by Moniepoint to engage and empower young people, while arguing that more organisations, governments, and institutions need to move beyond merely discussing the talent gap and begin creating practical, long-term platforms that help young people build valuable skills and meaningful careers.
Join us as we unpack the state of Nigerian talent, challenge popular narratives about its decline, and discuss what it will take to develop the next generation of innovators, builders, creators, and leaders.

US/Israel Vs Iran - WW3?
2026/04/04
In this episode, we unpack the escalating conflict involving Iran and what it means for the global order.
We examine the ripple effects on the world economy, with a particular focus on rising energy prices and growing instability in oil markets.
We discuss how Gulf countries have suffered significant collateral damage, especially to critical energy infrastructure—the backbone of their economies—disrupting oil supply in a region that plays a central role in meeting global energy demand.
The conversation also explores why this moment feels like the closest the world has come to a third world war in decades, as the conflict unfolds alongside the ongoing war in Ukraine, intensifying geopolitical tensions on multiple fronts.
We take a close look at the role of the United States, questioning whether the scale and intensity of Iran’s retaliation were fully anticipated.
Finally, we share our outlook on how the conflict is likely to end. Spoiler alert: despite the chaos, a negotiated settlement may ultimately be the most realistic outcome.
Nigeria and it's Woes
2026/04/03
In this episode, we take a hard, honest look at Nigeria’s current realities and the forces shaping everyday life across the country. From rising economic pressures and unemployment to ongoing security concerns and struggling infrastructure, the conversation explores why so many Nigerians feel the weight of uncertainty.
We examine the deeper roots of these challenges, tracing them through history, from colonial legacies and years of military rule to the corrosive effects of corruption and the persistent influence of tribal and ethnic divisions.
Rather than focusing only on symptoms, this episode asks the tougher questions: How did we get here? and What continues to hold the nation back?
But this is not just a story of problems. The episode also looks forward, highlighting opportunities for reform, innovation, and collective responsibility. It explores how accountability, cultural shifts, and citizen engagement could help reshape Nigeria’s future.
This episode is an invitation to reflect, to question, and to engage in meaningful dialogue about Nigeria’s challenges and the possibilities that still exist beyond them.
