Description

The Random Wrestling Review and its sister shows bring you an explicit mess of in-depth wrestling analysis and puerile humour. The main show focuses on a single event from any point in history and breaks it down crudely and with no apologies. RWR Now focusses on events currently taking place in wrestling. The Game is a quiz series featuring regular guests on the panel battling out to show their supremacy over one another. BracketMania sees the crew whittle 16 down to 1 in pursuit of finding the best of any given category and there a number of bonus and special episodes about a plethora of other things. We have covered topics and shows dating from 1984 through to the present day from a variety of promotions including WWE, WCW, AEW, ECW, NWA, NXT and AWA, so there is bound to be something you like when you join Tinky, Old Man, Tom, Stephen, Matt, Alex and other guests as they fumble their way through wrestling’s rich past, present and even future. WWE WrestleMania 42- Night 1

The WrestleMania series is back, albeit temporarily, as we bring you full coverage of both nights of this year's event, starting with Night 1 here. After the speculation surrounding ticket prices and sales, and a general feeling that the build to the show has been less than stellar, would WWE be able to deliver on the night? Cody Rhodes was facing Randy Orton in the main event, meanwhile underneath, Stephanie Vaquer defended the Women's Title against Liv Morgan and Gunther battled Seth Rollins. AWA SuperClash III

It's our last stop on the series of significant events in history, and to round things off ahead of WrestleMania season, it felt only right to get as far away from the glitz and glam of the 42nd edition of the Grandaddy of them all as possible, and a trip to 1988 AWA with their SuperClash III event. This was a big last effort by the remaining hold outs of the territory age to come together and try to keep the WWE and NWA wolves from the door, with the American Wrestling Association teaming up with CWA from Memphis, WCCW from Texas and women's promotion POWW to put on their one and only foray into pay-per-view, The Random Wrestling Review is brought to you this week by Tom, Gavin and Tinky.

The Game: Hulk Hogan Matches

The latest Game Title Match is not only for the prestigious Championship, but also has gotten personal, as Tom Smith, still angry about a perceived injustice during his previous shot at the title, gets a rematch against the defending Champion, and undefeated, 'Relentless' Gavin Duenas. WWE The Wrestling Classic

The esteem of being called the first proper Pay-Per-View in wrestling history doesn't go to Starrcade 1983, or even the first ever WrestleMania, it goes to a show that took place just a few months later in 1985, The Wrestling Classic, featuring a one night, 16-man tournament and a World Title match pitting Hulk Hogan against his nemesis 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper. WCW Road Wild 1998

WCW Road Wild is the destination for our latest podcast as WCW continued a celebrity tour that had been going most of the summer by bringing in late night talk show host, Jay Leno to team with DDP against Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff in the main event. This was all just a couple of months after Bill Goldberg had risen to the top of the company as their World Heavyweight Champion- on this night he was put in an NWO Battle Royal that would also include Sting, Kevin Nash, The Giant, Scott Hall and many others. WWE No Way Out 2004

No Way Out 2004 was the night that Eddie Guerrero became WWE Champion defeating Brock Lesnar in a near 30-minute encounter, it was also the night that confirmed Kurt Angle's place in the title match against him at WrestleMania 20, and set the table for Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg's bizarre contest at the same event. When Dave Meltzer commented that there was no chance an independent wrestling show could draw 10,000 people, he probably couldn't have anticipated that not only would Cody Rhodes bet him that they could, but that in attempting to do so, Cody and his pals would kick off a series of events that would lead to the creation of All Elite Wrestling. That was the story behind All In, a show that included contributions from Ring of Honor, CMLL, New Japan and the NWA, and featured most of the best non-WWE signed wrestlers in the world... Last weekend WWE presented the Royal Rumble with Roman Reigns and Liv Morgan taking the victories in the respective Rumble matches, Drew McIntyre decisively defending the WWE Title against Sami Zayn and AJ Styles being forced to retire having lost to Gunther. We broadly discuss the main things coming out of the show and the decision of Roman Reigns on Raw to pick CM Punk to face at this coming year's WrestleMania. WWE Royal Rumble 1988

2026/02/01

1988 was the year that WWE first unveiled to the world its Royal Rumble concept (actually it was 1987, but more on that in the episode)- a 30-man (okay, in this case it was actually 20) battle royal style contest with a twist- 2 wrestlers would start in the ring and then every 2 minutes (or 90 seconds, or even 60 seconds some years) a new wrestler would enter until all participants had joined the match. Eliminations would come when a person was thrown over the top rope and both feet hit the floor until there was just one man (or woman, as would later be introduced) left who would go on to headline (or just get put in one of many important matches) at WrestleMania (actually, this wasn't introduced until 1993). ECW Guilty As Charged 2001

We've already covered WCW's last ever pay-per-view, so it felt only fair that we did the same for ECW and their Guilty As Charged 2001 event. A night that played host to a ECW World Title Ladder Match between Steve Corino, Justin Credible and The Sandman, an 'I Quit' match pitting Tommy Dreamer against CW Anderson and 2 impromptu bouts that closed the show in customary ECW style.
