Clear It Now, Save Them Later.
2026/08/11
This episode explores why decluttering can be a gift to the people you leave behind, not just a task for the present. Drawing on my own experience of clearing my mother's belongings after her death, I introduce the idea of Swedish death cleaning and reframe it as a practical, compassionate part of ageing positively. In this episode: I explain how discovering Swedish death cleaning arrived at the right moment during a personal loss.I talk about a simple mindset shift, inspired by Ann Patchett, to help you get your own decluttering started: imagine you're moving house, instead of confronting death directly.I mention the "someday" pile, and the reminder that "someday" needs a deadline later in life.I discuss that decluttering isn't about throwing everything away, but about deciding thoughtfully what's worth keeping — and how to begin with a small, manageable starting point: one cupboard, one step, one act of kindness. Forward After 50, The Rising Reinventors
2025/06/19
What is a Rising Reinventor? I started using this term when I wrote my book in 2022. I see it as a movement of women over 50 who seek to redefine ageing positively. A rising reinvention is a new perspective on ageing and oneself, viewed with pride and excitement. Generate and regenerate, not degenerate. Instead of fearing ageing, we can reframe our mindset, as it’s time to become and reinvent ourselves if we want to. In this episode, I explain some strategies for personal reinvention, including self-discovery and the importance of saying no to things that no longer serve you. I run a Rising Reinventor programme, which is for women navigating various life and work stages. Ready to rewrite your next chapter? 2025/04/23
Welcome to my second podcast season of Forward After Fifty. In this episode of Forward After 50, 'How Can We Deal With Ageism?' I'm discussing the importance of redefining ageing positively and confronting ageism. Ageism is a prevalent issue worldwide, with negative stereotyping about ageing deeply ingrained in society. The power of language can shape perceptions about ageing. By shifting the narrative around ageing, we can empower ourselves and others to embrace this stage of life with confidence and joy. Are you a woman over 50, uncertain about what's next? Do you question your identity or feel stuck in roles that no longer serve you? You're not alone. Many women over 50 have a desire for change. The Power of Kindness and Connection
2024/08/09
Episode Fifty of the Forward After Fifty podcast is about embracing adventure and stepping out of your comfort zone. My guest, Geraldine McFaul, is a freelance risk management consultant and shares her inspiring journey of walking from her home in Glasgow to Rome. She embarked on this adventure after her mother was diagnosed with vascular dementia, and she wanted to raise funds for Dementia UK and Mary's Meals in memory of her parents. Geraldine had minimal planning and relied on her intuition and the kindness of strangers along the way, the 'kindnappers as Geraldine named them'. She faced challenges, such as the heat wave and the daunting task of crossing the Alps, but she persevered and completed the journey in six months. The experience taught her the importance of setting her own pace, embracing flexibility, and trusting in herself. Geraldine plans to continue sharing her story through talks and writing a book. How Jo Moseley Keeps Breaking Barriers
2024/06/18
From broken to breaking barriers, Jo Moseley describes herself as a single Mum with two grown-up sons. In addition to her lovely day job, she is a freelance creative. Divorce, perimenopause, and the loss of her Mother took Jo into a dark place; she describes herself as broken. Sleep-deprived, a friend suggested exercise might help; Jo purchased a rowing machine, and after two weeks, she began to feel much better. That rowing machine started a new direction that opened up multiple paths. Since then, she has exchanged a rowing machine for paddleboarding and became, in 2019, at 54, the first woman to paddleboard across Britain's coast to coast. She has written two books, been featured in a moving documentary about her coast-to-coast paddleboard adventure, and has a podcast. In this Forward After Fifty podcast, Jo tells her story about embracing bravery, overcoming fear, breaking barriers, and defying ageism. Jo is such an inspiring example of creating change, and if you'd like to know more, follow her on Instagram Read her books: Stand-up Paddleboarding in the Lake District: Beautiful places to paddleboard in Cumbria Stand-up Paddleboarding in Great Britain: Beautiful places to SUP in England, Scotland & Wales: Beautiful places to paddleboard in England, Scotland & Wales Watch her film Brave Enough - A Journey Home to Joy Listen to the podcast The Joy of SUP - The Paddleboarding Sunshine Podcast
"Art and Ageing; A Journey of Reinvention"
2024/05/31
Janice Jacquet is an artist and generously gave her time in 2021 to be interviewed for my book Forward After 50, The Rising Reinventors In 2023, I decided to revisit my ten interviewees in the following years to see if their ageing journeys, particularly any fears of ageing, had changed. In their initial interviews, each of the ten interviewees expressed concerns about ageing, particularly loneliness and fear of losing their independence. Janice, a seasoned artist, once grappled with the notion of calling herself a professional artist. However, her journey is a testament to the power of self-belief. Today, her artwork graces various exhibitions, and you can catch a glimpse of her past and upcoming creations on Instagram. Our conversation was a deep dive into a multitude of topics, ranging from ageism to the societal pressures that some cultures exert on individuals to conform to certain expectations of ageing. We explore fears, such as losing close bonds made throughout a lifetime and the possibility of relying on others for support, and we discuss the importance of connection. Janice Jacquet is a rising reinventor. Read Forward After 50, The Rising Reinventors for tons of tips to age positively

2024/03/19
If you are about to have a significant birthday (aren't they all) and want to be adventurous, listen to this podcast. I'm still determining how I stumbled on Heth's Goes Biking Instagram page, but I'm so glad I did. What a joy to follow someone who decides to move out of her comfort zone and do so in such a humorous way; I encourage you to follow her adventures. Despite being an avid cake eater, Heather Miller decided to celebrate turning fifty with something other than a 50-candle birthday cake. A recreational biker, Heather decided to take her bike adventure to the next level and announced a birthday bike adventure. Cycling 600 km around South Korea started the Heth Goes Biking Instagram page. What have you been saying you want to do but have yet to do? Making changes can sometimes be scary, so if you need motivation, read my book Forward After 50, The Rising Reinventors. After reading, you can permit yourself to dream on a large scale and create a plan of action. The first step to ageing positively is downloading my freebie, The Secret to Ageing Positively, here.
