Whoa, Matt is tall again and we are back for another episode. This time we put on our serious hats to talk about the devastating floods occurring in Yellowstone and the surrounding communities. Right now, thousands of people are displaced (some examples here and here) and fighting to rebuild their communities after Yellowstone's "1 in 500" year flood tore up the park we love so much. Park workers are struggling to find housing, business owners are trying to keep their doors open, and some people are watching their houses get swept away and posting it to Tik Tok. The evacuation has been grueling and we have seen some good signs in the past couple days but there is a lot left to be done. Gateway towns may be on their own for 2+ years while roads and bridges are repaired and areas are cleared. We order a pizza at the end of the episode from the Parlor at Mack's Inn. They are donating half of their revenue over the next few days to the Chamber of Commerce to assist these towns. Do what you can to help. We'll see you next week, PEEEA-ZZA

What's slappin' rats? In this fast paced episode we are going to be chugging along the topic of train hopping. Once a popular means of getting around the country now only has a small number of participants due to the high risk and potential to get arrested. We may get off the rails a few times in this episode but in general we cover the history of train hopping, how people train hop and the dangers that are involved. The dangers are real in the sport of train hopping and we do not advise anyone to try it but if you really need to let off some steam we can't stop you from doing it. Anyways, We are talking bout thumbing today folks. Hitchhiking has been around for a very long time (1910!) and we are just sad it isnt still socially acceptable to do it still. As the automobile became more popular, so did people finding ways to get around the country. Sometimes the easiest way was to just stick out a thumb. We talk about the history of hitchhiking, its decline over the years, why it is perceived as dangerous, and some personal and third-party accounts of hitchhiking stories. Quoted as the Park's number one problem, pooping in the woods is something that has existed even before humans but now its turning our national parks into a collection of bad Taco Bell menu decisions. So heres what you gotta know about crappin in the woods, kid. We then talk about two beautiful parks down under. Australia is home to many National Parks with very unique wildlife. Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park is an icon of Australia. The large rock serves as a tourist site but most importantly as a spiritually significant place for the aboriginal people. Its stunning height and rock art attracts large crowds who are no longer allowed to climb the rock and for good reason. The Grampians National Park Is also a stunning rock formation. Along this mountain range the granite mountains attract climbers from around the world to send some gnarly boulders and sport routes. You never know what a cougar is gonna do ;) In the first half of this episode we talk about some of the encroaching luxurious resorts surrounding popular national parks and some of the ways people are looking to experience national parks without leaving the comfort of the own homes and Netflix binges. If you really want to experience the true nature of national parks without glamping or without electricity, we compiled a few crazy hikes to isolated campsites for those inclined (literally and figuratively). In the second half of this episode we talk about the important steps you need to take to have a shot at surviving a deadly animal attack.  While deaths from many of these animals are rare, it is good to know how to protect yourself if you ever come face to face with one of these animals.
