Forgotten was first featured in our Senior Moments Season 1, Episode 8 in 2020. We are so excited to revisit them again and welcome back the founders Kathi Snow, Sandi King and this time their Mom Peggy McKenney, from Jacksonville, FL Kathi, Sandi, and Peggy founded Forgotten Angels as a non-profit organization and have grown this idea over the years to what it is today, serving close to 40 nursing homes and over 3000 elders each year. Peggy, originally from Lexington, KY is the mother of 3, retired and has lived in the Jacksonville since 2004. As co-founder of Forgotten Angels, she is the treasurer and as you will hear, is the liaison between the Angles and the nursing home activity directors. Even though she is in her 80's, you will hear how this lady just keeps things rolling! Sandi serves as the Vice President and is usually the "voice" of the Angels getting the word out about their activities and making connections. Kathi is the President of Forgotten Angels. Everything goes through Kathi! She is in charge of all decision making for all Angel activities and is the "spread sheet" organizer for all they do!  The Forgotten Angels continued their mission as best they could in 2020, surviving the pandemic and now moving forward stronger than ever. Welcome Cliff Tadema founder of ElderCare Ministries.  You are in for a real treat with this interview.  Cliff shares his story from financial advisor to becoming a pastor, and bringing it all together for his inspiration of Eldercare Ministries.   Learn about the ElderCare chaplains and be inspired by the stories he shares of the chaplains’ work. His closing words will bring a tear to your eye.  It did for me!   Cliff was born in Lupwe, Nigeria, the son of missionary parents. He spent 20 years in business, primarily the financial sector. He was a Certified Financial Planner, Investment Advisor and licensed in insurance, real estate and securities. As an entrepreneur he started multiple companies.  In 1983 Cliff became the pastor for Christ The King Community Church in Anacortes, WA. He subsequently pastored churches of over 1000 people.  For 10 years he acted as the National Director of Pastors for The CTK Network, an evangelical non-denominational network of churches. Welcome Joe Simonetta the 2023 Gold medalist of the U.S.National Senior Games.  What does this 80 year old from Sarasota, FL do for fun as he ages…well how about run his first race EVER competing in the U.S. Senior National Games Triathlon.  He had never competed in a race of any kind prior to entering this National Senior Game, and ended up winning the Gold!   Listen as Joe shares his story of the history of his life and what brought him to where he is today, competing in triathlons at the age of 80.  His story of the race itself is so inspiring.   The sprint triathlon was held on July 18, 2023, in Pittsburgh, PA, where Joe competed in his age division, 80-84.  The sprint triathlon consists of a quarter-mile swim, followed by a 12.4 mile bike race and finishes up with a  3.1 mile run.  Joe recently competed in another triathlon in his hometown of Sarasota, FL, winning 1st in his division and 56th overall. Our last podcast was the kick off to The Love a Senior CENTER project, as a part of the Rural Exposure projects within the company.   Our mission then was to re-open the closed local senior center of this small rural community in Northeastern Colorado.  Well, we did it!!   This project began on January 12 and the Senior Center has now been open since March 1, 2023! With over 1 Million older adults being served in America each year by local senior centers, the need for the services will only continue to grow as the boomer tsunami strengthens. The need for senior centers and a central gathering place for social, informational, and instructional events is becoming more and more important than ever before.   The Love A Senior Center Project model was conceived by Carol Chiarito, founder of the non-profit Love A Senior Company. Conversations held at a visit home for a friend's funeral led to learning the needs of the Wray Seniors. The plan to roll out this project in her home town became obvious when a longtime friend and board member for the 55 and Over Club, asked for her presentation to the board. Born in 1920, Joseph “Joe” Nichols immigrated to America at the age of 23 from Barbados when his parents sent for him. He was drafted into the United States Navy during WWII in 1943, and was assigned to Pearl Harbor.
