The discussion focused on civil disobedience, institutional change and the track record of different universities when it comes to sustainable investing. In this podcast episode for LSE’s Sustainable Futures Society MSc Environmental Policy + Regulation students Ella Chippendale and Tash Cohen will explore how the sustainable fashion industry has adapted in the Covid era. Many believe that there has been a shift towards sustainability in the wake of Covid-19 but are the trends this simple? By talking with Rosemary Pickering, a sustainability analyst at Farfetch, Megha Shah, a businesswoman and founder of ethical webshop Uhuru London, and Besma Whayeb, blogger and founder of Curiously Conscious, we will seek to unpack these trends. By drawing on three diverse perspectives – information, business, and communication, we will seek to paint a holistic perspective of changes that have taken place in the sustainable fashion industry over the past year.

In this episode, we deconstruct the concept of 'natural disasters' and the vulnerability narrative to understand who is left behind and who is made more marginalized by these narratives. We will look at the Disaster Risk Reduction field to examine how the DRR narrative only works for a certain group of people in society - leaving behind those that are most marginalized due to disability, gender, or class.

In this episode, we examine the common narratives of climate change and the potential implications that this has for leaving those most marginalized behind. We aim to understand how environmental problems and mitigative solutions are not distributed evenly and look at ways that adaptation is practiced in the development field.

In this episode, we dive into trendy environmental narratives and fads like veganism, greenwashing fashion, and the Netflix original movie, Seaspiracy. We unpack the responsibility these narratives place on individual consumerism vs the systemic causes of climate change.

Sustainability Teammates Scarlet Prentice (Sustainability Engagement Officer) and Charles Joly (Head of Sustainability) talk about the School’s carbon targets and approach to carbon offsetting, as well as explaining some of the common terminologies within these conversations!

Today we spoke to Jess Rimoch, the founder of Jarr Market, a zero waste store in Stockwell, London. As someone who has been on a zero waste journey for 3 years, she shares her experience and gives tips for those interested in reducing their own footprint. In part 2 of this podcast, I interview Richard Ladkani. As director and cinematographer, Richard has gained international recognition for numerous award-winning films, including "Sea of Shadows”, a National Geographic documentary, executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, which won the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival 2019. Richard also produced the NETFLIX Original "The Ivory Game", which was shortlisted for an Academy Award in 2017 and won numerous prizes including the Genesis, the Cinema for Peace Award and the Golden Panda.
