In Recognition of International Women's Day the Photographers Talking podcast is handing over to Lynne McEwan, Julie Edwards, Tabatha Fireman and Olivia Harris to discuss this years topic Break The Bias. Women photographers are massively under represented in the photography industry. Our guests discuss how women can gain recognition, Break the Bias and who inspired them.

Lynne McEwan is a newspaper photographer turned crime author. She has worked for titles including the Glasgow Herald, Western Mail and Sunday Mirror. She’s covered stories including the Fall of the Berlin Wall and the first Gulf War. Lynne has just released her first crime novel In Dark Water. We discuss photography, writing, a bit of history and living in a house with a cat and an owl. Calum Colvin is a Scottish artist whose work combines photography, painting, and installation, and often deals with issues surrounding Scottish identity and culture. He has had solo exhibitions at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, and Royal Scottish Academy and he has a number of works in the collections of the Tate Galleries, and the British Council. He is also a Professor of Fine Art Photography at the University of Dundee. He creates installations in his studio and photographs them on 10x8 film to create a large photographic print. Kirsty Mackay is a documentary photographer, film maker and activist. Her first book My Favourite Colour Was Yellow explored young girls' obsession with the colour pink and saw her listed as one of Time Magazine’s 34 Women Photographers to Follow right now In 2017 she was awarded the Rebecca Vassie Memorial Award which helped her to complete her second book The Fish That Never Swam an examination low life expectancy Glasgow. David’s latest project Thirty Two York Place is a study of the Senators of the College of Justice Scotland. Shot in the studio of one of Scotland’s greatest portrait painters, Sir Henry Raeburn, Thirty Two York Place is a unique collection of portraits.

While we were all being told to Stay Home, Save Lives and Protect the NHS Christopher was on a twelve hour shift nightshift with doctors and nurses on the frontline battle against the deadly virus. Photographers and journalist everywhere were constantly asking to see the frontline battle against COVID-19 and virtually none had succeeded. Christopher tells us how he went about selling the idea of a photo documentary shot on black and white film and the challenges that presented when access was granted. Not least when he had to go home and produce a TV package for the news.

Cathal McNaughton was part of a team of Reuters photographers who were awarded a Pulitzer Prize for their work in Bangladesh photographing the Rohingya refugees in 2017. In an extraordinary series of events he found himself living back in Ireland where in his words, "he needed to be".
