Description

Join us on our journey into opening up the conversation about the highs and lows of competitive running and in particular, the struggles we, as athletes, face due to lack of education around “taboo” subjects, using our own experiences and guests’ too; no topic is off limits!! “In It For The Long Run” represents those who prioritise longevity and love for the sport over short term success and PBs, and also our love for long runs of course! Join us every week as we share our (unsolicited) advice and answer your questions in the hope to help other athletes facing the same issues.

Jiya varma - Female Athlete Triad, REDS, advice for athletes/coaches and her story!
2021/08/01
In today’s episode we have Jiya join us! She is so knowledgable about menstrual health, especially in athletes. We talk about the basics of the female athlete triad, her journey with hypothalamic amenorrhoea due to her eating disorder and exercise addiction, everything that has changed for the better since regaining her period, advice for athletes to have a healthy period and also advice for coaches! She has worked with 2 doctors from India and Chicago to put together a very informative website which condenses all the science behind period loss in a very - easy to understand - way so be sure to check it out! And of course, fill out her survey (it only takes around 2 minutes!!)
Race bucket lists + BIG life updates!
2021/07/25
Thanks for tuning into this weeks episode! We give you an update on Katie’s discovery after last weeks doctor’s visit and being treated like a “pin cushion” and discuss her dad’s race (the Lakeland 100 miler) and then jump straight into our future race bucket list including the Mount Everest Marathon (!!!!) and the Midnight Sun Marathon in Norway where it is light for the entire day! Hopefully you can get some ideas from us and add them to your own racing bucket list and in a world post COVID and when we’re a lot older, we could even do some of these races together!! We also included your race bucket list at the end of the episode so listen out for that! In the meantime, me sure to catch up with all of our other episodes!!
Dropout rate in sport w/ Daphne Jones
2021/07/18
Hi guys, welcome back to another episode! For this week’s episode we have a repeat guest on but this time, it’s us discussing a topic that is very close to our hearts; dropout rate in sport. It’s affected us all at one point or another, whether that be losing friends because they chose to quit, injuries, us putting too much pressure on ourselves or just finding it stressful to fit everything into our lives. This is a huge issue within sport that somehow needs to be changed so that everyone can be “in it for the long run”.
“Not all men” - Sexual harassment within sport
2021/07/11
Hi guys! This weeks episode is a bit more of a serious one because we felt that after recent circumstances, a lot of things needed to be talked about and we wanted to normalise talking about serious topics in order to make them seem like less of a scary complex. We also shared a few polls to give you an idea of how other people in sport (that you know) are affected.
Say no to “hot girl summer” and yes to contentment
2021/07/04
Today we explain the whole concept of hot girl summer and “that girl” TikToks in relation to sport and non-sport aspects of life. We have both been trying to spread ourselves too thin recently and so thought it was quite apt for this podcast. Hopefully in this episode you can learn how to have a “hot girl summer” without feeling the need to do anything that doesn’t align with your values.
SERIES 2!! HUGE catch up; races, meeting each-other, injuries + a very deep chat
2021/06/27
Hey guys! It’s been 7 weeks and we’re back! Today is an update podcast and it’s been a bit of a bumpy ride to say the least since we last made an episode! We couldn’t wait to be back filming though and we’re more excited than ever to delve deeper into amazing sportsmen/women and to discuss topics we’ve never even touched on! Hope you enjoy and if you need any help or advice, feel free to dm us! instagram.com/initforthelongrunpodcast instagram.com/ellie.richardsonxx instagram.com/katieb.runs

Exercise addiction is still as valid as any other addiction
2021/05/02
Runners guilt (when you skip your run so you feel guilty); all runners go through this, right? But there’s a line where it becomes an addiction. In this episode - as well as a little update into our lives - we talk about the pressures within our sport and just how harmful exercise addiction can be. So grab a choccy bicky and enjoy :) instagram.com/initforthelongrunpodcast instagram.com/ellie.richardsonxx instagram.com/katieb.runs

2021/04/11
Today we’re joined by Amy; Ellie’s high school friend who talks to us about the basics of the Law of Attraction, manifestation, vision boards, crystals and getting to know your inner self during lockdown. It’s quite a short episode as you’ll need to watch “the Secret” to fully understand it. But sit back and enjoy the episode with an open-mind. instagram.com/amyystansfield instagram.com/underhereyepod instagram.com/initforthelongrunpodcast instagram.com/ellie.richardsonxx instagram.com/
