This week, we've got a new film... Amazing right? what's even more amazing is that I've got Nona on the show and we're not watching garbage for once. This week Totalcultzone presents... Babystar (blue tick) A German movie about the perils of celebrity in the social media age. PRESS!!! Luca lives in a big house with her loving parents, and she has millions of followers on social media. She has everything a teenage girl could wish for. Except Luca has never chosen that life - being an influencer is a family business and her parents make it very clear that although she is very dear to them, she must play her part to keep the sponsors coming. When her parents plan to extend the family, a crisis begins to loom. As Luca puts it herself: she just wants to be ‘special’. Can she remain the only ‘babystar’ or is she as expendable as her last Instagram story? Having premiered to strong reviews at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, Babystar has drawn comparisons to Yorgos Lanthimos and Ruben Östlund, earning a strong reviews from Screen Daily, Variety and others. While satire often mirrors reality too sharply for comfort, Babystar's release in UK & Irish cinemas comes at a time when social media is under huge scrutiny, especially in teenagers and children. In June 2026, the UK government announced legislation to ban under-16s from social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat, with the bill likely to come into force later next year. Lesbian Space Princess ... nuff said? maybe not, it's a title that popped into my inbox and I thought it was a totally unnecessary 4k remastering by Vinegar syndrome of a 70s softcore romp release, but it's a actually a brand new indie animated feature that is by the directors description "fresh, female driven and gay AF". I figured as I'm non of those things, I may need a little help. Nona is made speechless for the first time, but is it due to the film or just the Werewolf dildo monster tickling a pickle? either way, this is an odd film that neither of us were expecting to have this reaction to. Touch Me is psychosexual horror-comedy written and directed by Addison Heimann. Two best friends become addicted to the heroin-like touch of an alien narcissist who is trying to take over the world. The film stars Olivia Taylor Dudley (She Dies Tomorrow, The Magicians), Lou Taylor Pucci (Daredevil: Born Again, American Horror Story) and Jordan Gavaris (Wish You Were Here, Hacks). Smelling like Monster Energy, spite, rage and a couple of old shelves. Nona and ThatFkingGuy (that is who I am) scratch and sniff our way through the the sights, sounds and smells of Dead Lover Following its World Premiere at Sundance, the film played at SXSW, Night Visions, TIFF, Edinburgh International Film Festival and Soho Horror Festival. Dead Lover is a deliciously dark horror-comedy, for fans of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Death Becomes Her and Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The film centers around a smelly gravedigger who craves love and, after she’s found it, refuses to let it go – even in death. Directed and co-written by Grace Glowicki, the film stars Glowicki, Ben Petrie, Leah Doz and Lowen Morrow, each playing multiple parts. A lonely gravedigger, who stinks of corpses, finally meets her dream man – but their romance is cut short when he tragically drowns at sea.
