This week Nona and myself head out on a text based adventure to the land of Obex Set in 1987 and shot in monochrome, OBEX is a surreal lo-fi fantasy adventure with a cautionary tale about living life through a screen. The world premiere took place at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival where IndieWire called it “Eraserhead meets The Legend of Zelda.” Conor Marsh lives a secluded life with his dog, Sandy, until one day he begins playing OBEX, a new, state-of-the-art computer game. When Sandy disappears, the line between reality and gaming blurs, and Conor must enter the world of OBEX to save her. We're covering a film that lots of people have probably seen but not in this high a quality. The 25th anniversary of Dogma is being celebrated with a 4K release of the best (?) Kevin Smith film, now that he's got the rights back. Me and Captain J watch it and talk a little about the impact Kevin Smith has had on out worlds... it's not just that one scene, honest. Also as I thought there wouldn't be too much to talk about a film everybody has seen, I knocked up a little quiz about the year 1999 and, snuck in quick quiz of 'Are you an UN-ALIVE?" turns out there was a fair amount to talk about, and even then I don't think we even scratched the surface of what a wonderful film this was and still is Dogma is showing in theatres around the place and probably getting every possible physical release you can think of, with multiple bonus features. We get a little bit political with this weeks entry for DOCtober.
