They first started investigating buying a larger home, but what he thought they required was $2.5 million and above.    To be practical, he decided to see if he could build a 550 Sqf addition onto his existing home, but there were many hurdles to jump - first of all seeing if it was possible/permissible in his area to do this.   He decided to hire an architect to do the planning and then do the work. After interviewing a short list, the prices were all over the place.
