Aus gegebenen Anlass möchte ich auf mein Gespräch mit Universtitätsprofessorin Antje Potthast vom Institut für Chemie nachwachsender  Rohstoffe hinweisen.  Sie wurde kürzlich als Erfinderin des Jahres 2025 der BOKU University geehrt. Aus dem Pressetext: Mit ihrem Engagement, ihrer Innovationskraft und ihrer wissenschaftlichen Expertise ist Antje Potthast ein inspirierendes Role Model an der BOKU. Als Forscherin ist sie erfolgreich in einer nach wie vor männerdominierten Branche und arbeitet eng mit internationalen Unternehmen der Papier-, Zellstoff- und Faserindustrie zusammen. Als national und international anerkannte Expertin trägt sie maßgeblich zum exzellenten Ruf der BOKU bei. Als Pionierin in der Forschung zu nachwachsenden Rohstoffen bringt Antje Potthast das für die BOKU zentrale Thema Nachhaltigkeit seit Jahrzehnten in Wissenschaft und Gesellschaft und ist damit eine würdige BOKU Erfinderin 2025.   Im Juni 2022 habe ich mit ihr über ihre Studienzeit in der DDR gesprochen. Mit Arunjunai Raj Mahendran und Lea Ranacher von Wood K Plus spreche ich über die potentiale bio-basierte Sensoren für die Anwendung im Bau-, Automobil- und Sportartikelsektor.  In ihrem Forschungsprojekt i3Sense versuchen sie die Funktionalität und Zuverlässigkeit von tragenden Bauteilen aus Holz und Naturfasern zu verbessern. Mit innovativen, unsichtbar integrierten Sensoren untersuchen sie kritische Parameter wie Feuchtigkeit, mechanische Belastung und Temperatur, um die Lebensdauer und Leistungsfähigkeit biobasierter Materialien in der Bau-, Automobil- und Sportindustrie zu verbessern. Ihre Vision ist es, eine neue Generation nachhaltiger, intelligenter Materialien zu entwickeln, die durch die frühzeitige Erkennung potenzieller Gefahren eine beispiellose Zuverlässigkeit erreichen. In dieser Episode spreche ich mit DI Boris Hultsch und Prof. Wolfgang Gindl-Altmutter über das Kompetenzzentrum Holz, auch Wood K Plus genannt.  Anfang der 2000er gegründet hat sich Wood K Plus zu einer der führenden Forschungseinrichtung für Holz und verwandte nachwachsende Rohstoffe in Europa entwickelt. Wir erfahren wichtige Meilensteine in der Geschichte des Zentrums. Außerdem sprechen wir über die sich ständig weiterentwickelnden Visionen und Inhalte des vielseitigen Forschungsprogramms und bekommen Einblick die aktuellen Forschungsschwerpunkte. In this episode: Prof. Anna Sandak from the InnoRenew CoE. She is the head of the research department on Materials and InnoRenew CoE Deputy Director. She is aslo an associate professor and research associate at the Faculty of Mathematics, Natural Science and Information Technology at the University of Primorska.  In 2022 Anna was awarded the ERC consolidator grant for the project ARCHI-SKIN (101044468-ERC-2021-COG) to develop the novel concept of a bio-active living coating system, pushing the boundaries of traditional materials toward the development of engineered living materials. Anna is analyzing multi-scale relationship and performance of modified and functionalized bio-based materials and implementing them as new architectural elements.
