In this episode, I talk with Taelar, an associate principal who has achieved SO much during her career already! We discuss why she feels so strongly about providing teachers with social/emotional support, how she acts as a model for self care, how she's navigating running a school in this political climate to continue working on developing the whole child, and how she advocates for her teachers every day. 

In this update for the start of season 2, Kaitlyn shares her reasoning for taking a little break and what she's excited for in this upcoming season. 

In episode 8, I talk with my husband Kevin. We discuss how he was an education major but chose not to become a teacher, how our experience of working with children at summer camp has helped to shape our parenting, predictions for what next school year will bring after a year in a pandemic, and what it's like to be the spouse of an educator and everything that I put him through. 

In episode 7, I talk with Kris, an elementary assistant principal. We discuss how he's able to pay it forward to every level of person involved in schools through this role, how he had to change and manage his boundaries after switching roles, how he stays present and keeps up positive relationships with teachers and students, how he works on putting his family first, and how we both keep pushing to give our kids the best versions of ourselves. 

In episode 6, I talk with Sophie, a 5th grade and first year teacher. We discuss the challenges she faced while trying to navigate her first year of teaching in a pandemic, such as how to create guided groups and how to even set up a classroom! We also talk about how working at a summer camp inspired her to be an educator, how she focuses on the heavy SEL needs of her students, how she is incorporating emotional regulation techniques into her practice, and why it's important to always ask for help. 

In episode 5, I talk with Susan, a high school math teacher. We discuss what it's like to go back and teach at her alma mater, how her school is working to combat the teacher shortage, how she has been working hard to personalize learning for her students, why creating positive relationships with students is crucial, and why we both enforce a no homework policy. 

In episode 4, I talk with Hayley, a music educator who works with elementary and middle school students. We discuss the transition from working with high schoolers to working with kindergarteners, how her career has changed over this past year due to Covid, her passion for music and how she shares this with her students, and how she has worked to improve her mental health during these crazy times. 

In episode 3, I talk with Morgan, a 1st grade dual language teacher who teaches both native Spanish and English speakers. We discuss what it's like to teach content in both languages to a variety of students, how she incorporates flexible grouping and thematic units to meet student needs, why more schools should be practicing grade banding, and how she sets boundaries for her professional and personal life. 

In episode 2, Kaitlyn is joined by Dani, a middle school ELA teacher who has some wonderful insights about how she has improved her instruction and assessments through standards based grading. We also discuss how she is incorporating diverse texts in her classroom, how she balances work and family time, how strange and cool middle schoolers are, and how she's using Hamilton to compare text sources.
