Mayor Palmer gives a quick update on the City's efforts as we work with the legislature, highlights two upcoming community events with the State of Utah and Miss Herriman, and we discuss the new elementary school near Mountain Ridge High.

Councilmember Sherrie Ohrn talks through several things the City Council is considering to mitigate issues around Blackridge Reservoir in the summer months, an increase to the City's fine for illegal parking, recognition of outstanding community members and voting action from the City Council meeting, and a discussion about the Rodeo and updated ticket prices.

In this week's Herrimanology, Mayor Palmer responds to common questions about residential housing density and dips into the legislative session. Community Development Director Blake Thomas and Economic Development Coordinator Sandra Llewellyn give the answers and describe Herriman's vision for the future.

A first-of-its-kind approach to higher education—right here in our back yard. Salt Lake Community College and the University of Utah are leveraging their partnership to benefit students in Herriman and the other southwestern Salt Lake Valley communities, bringing a high-caliber education closer to home and making it more convenient than ever before. Jason Pickavance of SLCC and Chase Hagood of the U of U give insight on the project, what the partnership means, and what's coming in the future. We also review the recent law enforcement property tax change, asphalt resurfacing, and upcoming events in the community.

City Councilmembers Jared Henderson and Steven Shields join to discuss the proposed property tax increase for the Herriman City Safety Enforcement Area (HCSEA). We talk about the history behind the HCSEA (including the separation from the Unified Police Department and formation of the Herriman Police Department), the reasoning behind a tax increase, how much taxes would go up, and much more. A Truth in Taxation public hearing will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023.

Public Works Director Justun Edwards and Water Conservation Coordinator David Kruse discuss the state's ongoing drought, including the governor's state of emergency declaration.
