Episode 2129 - Claude Code Inbound Communications System: What I Built With No Coding Experience
2026/10/23
Today is Day 2129 of my daily barefoot-style running streak. I have covered 16,362.05km, with 23,712.95km left on the 40,075km lap of the world. The vlog raises money for children's causes, with a goal of £1M.This episode is about Claude Code, and why I have spent so much time on it. I have no coding background. I started with a poker tool that took about 30 minutes. It shows me which starting hands to bet, fold or play with caution, so I can learn the probabilities and make better decisions myself. Then I built something for the business. Over about six to eight hours I created an inbound communications system that pulls messages from several channels into one place. It has security measures and audit trails. AI drafts around 80% of the responses and I approve them. A part of the business that used to need four people could now be run by one person in about half an hour a day.I also share my estimate that software like this would have cost £30,000 to £40,000 a couple of years ago, against a subscription of £80 to £90 a month. It is not effortless, and I explain the setup you still have to do.My advice is to pick one frustration in your business, describe it in plain English and start small. The same principle applies to the streak. Small daily actions compound. If this was useful, follow the show and share it with someone who might support the mission. #claudecode #aiforbusiness #streakrunning #barefootrunning #ukrunnerscommunity #runnerslifestyle #ultrarunninglife #runformentalhealth #strava #stravarun #Insta360 #vibramfivefingersWatch the full episode: https://youtu.be/pKw8z3dxsVw
Episode 2100 - Running Streak Day 2100: A Broken Foot, Alpine Snow and My 44th Birthday
2026/10/23
Today is my 44th birthday and day 2100 of my daily running streak. Birthdays mean little to me, but a 100 day milestone always gets my attention. In this episode I reflect on the hardest 100 days of the streak so far.Just before day 2000, a stress fracture in my foot became a full fracture after I carried on without a supportive boot. I did not rest. I kept to 5km every day for about 16 weeks. One run took 1 hour 39 minutes. That shows how much pain I was in. I came through it, and as far as I know there is no lasting damage.I also ran in the Austrian mountains with friends, above 2,000 metres, in snow and minus 16 degrees. They were some of the toughest runs I have done, and I look back on them fondly. The lesson for me is that reflection is part of the journey. Looking back at 2100 days, I see the challenges I came through, and I use them to make better decisions. Consistency is about holding a minimum, not chasing intensity.I have now run 16,166.45km of the 40,075km lap of the world, with 23,908.55km to go. I am doing it to raise £1M for children's causes. If you believe in the mission, subscribe, share, and leave a comment. I will see you tomorrow for day 2101. #streakrunning #runningthroughinjury #barefootrunning #resilience #ukrunnerscommunity #runnerslifestyle #ultrarunninglife #runformentalhealth #strava #stravarun #Insta360 #vibramfivefingersWatch the full episode: https://youtu.be/Ri9Sz2M2Y58
Episode 2127 - Calf Tear Running: Recovery Form
2026/10/22
Today I talk about another injury. I have a minor tear in my left calf, and it follows a broken foot and sinusitis. If you run or exercise regularly, you will meet injuries too, so this one is for you.Rest is the best way to recover. I say this first because the evidence supports it. But I run daily for a reason. I am working towards 40,075km, a lap of the world, in barefoot-style footwear, and raising £1M for children's causes. Today is day 2,127, and I have covered 16,347.68km, with 23,727.32km to go.When I cannot rest, I switch to a recovery running form. My normal stride is a penny-farthing wheel, big and efficient. Now it is a scooter wheel, small and gentle. My cadence drops, my stride shortens and the load on the calf falls. The aim is to move oxygenated blood through the muscle, like a light physiotherapy session. I also hydrate before the run and fuel properly, so my body gets through with the least effort. The lesson for me is that consistency does not mean the same intensity every day. Sometimes the right run is the smallest one. A streak built for the long term depends on adjusting and not forcing. If you believe in the mission, subscribe, share, like or comment. More people watching means more support for children. #calftear #recoveryrunning #streakrunning #barefootrunning #ukrunnerscommunity #runnerslifestyle #ultrarunninglife #runformentalhealth #strava #stravarun #Insta360 #vibramfivefingersWatch the full episode: https://youtu.be/eAp7qu6d91w
Episode 2125 - Stop Micromanaging AI Agents: The Next Step in AI Evolution
2026/10/22
Today is Day 2125 of my daily running streak, and I want to talk about where I am with AI. I now spend roughly 90% of my working time prompting AI and 10% doing the work myself. That has made me far more productive, but I am still micromanaging. I give detailed prompts, plenty of context and I check every output. The next step is different. It means giving an AI agent an outcome, the tools and information it needs, and then trusting it to decide how to get there. I describe the four stages as I see them: familiarisation, connection, instruction and ownership. I am comfortable with the first three. Ownership is the one I have been avoiding, because I am a control freak and letting go is uncomfortable. So I am starting small. My first test is my old task list, much of it left over from past businesses. I plan to have an agent review it daily, clear what is no longer needed, and bring only the high-level items to me. If that works, it may build my daily schedule too. I have not run it yet, so I will report back on the real results.Running has taught me that trust comes from repetition, one small step at a time. That is how I approach the 40,075km lap of the world, and how I am approaching this. I am at 16,333.49km, with 23,741.51km to go. Every episode supports the mission to raise £1M for children's causes. Thank you for listening, and I will see you tomorrow. #AIagents #AIevolution #streakrunning #consistency #ukrunnerscommunity #runnerslifestyle #ultrarunninglife #runformentalhealth #strava #stravarun #Insta360 #vibramfivefingersWatch the full episode: https://youtu.be/oot5To2nA70
Episode 2114 - Buying a Loss-Making Business: Look at the Bigger Picture First
2026/10/22
Buying a loss-making business is the decision one of my closest friends is weighing right now. The company turns over close to 10 million and it loses money. It sits near what he already does, the price is low, and he and his business partner believe a turnaround could change their lives.I know why he built his own business. He wants freedom, time and choice, not only money. So I asked him one question: is this worth it for what you are trying to build? A loss-making business of that size brings stress, anxiety and no guarantee of success. It would also pull his focus away from the business that has started to thrive over the last 18 months.I am not saying he will walk away. I am glad he is now giving the decision the care it needs and going in with his eyes open.In this episode I talk about stepping back before a life-changing decision, writing down what you want from your life, and testing every opportunity against it. If it fits, the decision is easy. If it does not, you avoid being trapped.Today is day 2114 of my daily barefoot-style run. I have covered 16,252.94km, with 23,822.06km left to reach 40,075km and raise £1M for children's causes. Big decisions get the same test as the run: does this protect the mission or get in its way?If you support the mission, subscribe, share and leave a comment. #decisionmaking #businessmindset #mindset #streakrunning #ukrunnerscommunity #runnerslifestyle #ultrarunninglife #runformentalhealth #strava #stravarun #Insta360 #vibramfivefingersWatch the full episode: https://youtu.be/TUPfVHpVsGo
Episode 2128 - Running in Wind: Timing Your Run and Planning for Weather
2026/10/22
Today I got my run timing wrong. I do not mean pace. I mean when I scheduled it. The forecast looked fine, so I went out without waterproofs, and gusty wind brought rain in at five or six degrees. I finished soaked and cold, which gave me a clear lesson to share. In this episode I walk through how I plan around weather. I explain the difference between wind speed and wind gusts, why a southerly wind blows from the south, and how a free wind map helps me see headwinds before I leave. I explain why I choose an out and back over a loop on windy days, how I use shelter when a headwind is unavoidable, and what I do when temperatures drop to freezing. I also talk about dressing for the feels like temperature rather than the number on the forecast. This is day 2128 of my daily run streak. I have covered 16,354.93km, with 23,720.07km remaining of the 40,075km lap of the world. I run barefoot-style every day to raise £1M for children's causes. Consistency means running in poor conditions as well as good ones, and small bits of planning protect the streak. If you run outside, I would like to hear how you plan around the weather. Episode 1808 - Quarterly Retreat Benefits: Stepping Back to See Clearly
2026/10/21
Quarterly retreat benefits are the focus of Episode 1808. I record this on my last day in Spain, at a resort near Almeria that I won at a charity fundraiser. I explain that a retreat does not need to be expensive. It can be a few days with relatives, a night camping, or time at home away from your working environment. I take one every quarter to review where I was, where I am, and whether I am doing the right things. Without that distance, it is easy to become stuck in the day-to-day, work on the wrong things and feel overwhelmed.I am honest about the other side. I travel home tomorrow feeling a little anxious, because several parts of my business are early stage and not yet systemised. The difference is that I now see what needs to change.I also describe a marketing funnel I noticed at the resort. Prizes at charity auctions bring guests in, they enjoy the experience, and many later buy a unit without a hard sell. It is a useful prompt to look at how you reach your own market. This is Day 1808 of my daily barefoot-style running streak. I have covered 14,190.09 km of the 40,075 km lap of the world, with 25,884.91 km remaining. Each episode supports my mission to raise £1M for children's causes. Episode 2124 - Claude Cowork and Claude Code: What Agentic AI Means for My Businesses
2026/10/21
Today is day 2,124 of my daily barefoot-style running streak, and I am talking about Claude Cowork and Claude Code. I explain how AI has moved from conversation, to automation, to agents that complete tasks on their own. Claude has replaced ChatGPT for me, and I still use Gemini to fact check.Cowork is a desktop app that acts like a co-worker. You give it access to your software and folders, and it reads that context before it works. You approve early, then loosen control as trust grows. The limit today is permission prompts, so it is not fully autonomous yet.Claude Code lets me build software by conversation, with no coding background. I used it to create a live Airtable sync and a real-time dashboard, so the numbers no longer depend on one fragile formula.I see a path to AI agents doing 90% of my recurring business work. That is the aim, not the current position, and I will keep checking the output as I go.I connect this to the run. Consistency beats intensity in both. The time AI protects goes back into the mission: 40,075km around the world, with 16,326.36km done and 23,748.64km to go, to raise £1M for children's causes. If you believe in the mission, follow, share or subscribe. Episode 2123 - AI Replacing Admin Staff: My Conversation With My Team
2026/10/20
Today I talk about AI replacing admin staff, and the conversation I had with my remote team this week. I run a team of about eight, four remote and four field based, and I told them that around 90% of their current workload potentially disappears within the next month as I bring in AI agents and automation.I explain why my property business is less exposed than remote services, professional services and agencies, and why that is still no reason to relax. I also explain why I did not choose to cut staff. These people have given me loyalty, trust and integrity over the years, so I set them a challenge. I asked them to think about how they add value to the business now, and to use the entrepreneurial skills I have been training in them for years. At first there was concern and fear. Once they understood this was about adapting, not cutting, their mood changed. I will find out over the next few weeks what they come back with. The lesson for me is to be honest early, and to get comfortable being uncomfortable. It is the same lesson the streak teaches. This is day 2123, I have run 16,319.07km, and 23,755.93km remain of the 40,075km lap of the world. The mission is to raise £1M for children's causes. Episode 2120 - Loyalty in Business: Why I Will Not Cut Loyal People Because of AI
2026/10/18
Loyalty in business is one of the most undervalued traits I know, and I have learned that the hard way. On Day 2120 of my daily barefoot-style running streak, I talk about a decision in front of me right now. AI is changing how much work my businesses need people to do, and in some areas the workload could fall by as much as 75%. The ruthless answer is to reduce the team. I have taken that route before. In the past I made decisions for the future of the business and gave little weight to the trust and integrity people showed me. I let other opportunities turn my head and treated some people as stepping stones. I believe in karma, and those choices came back to teach me. I went back to loyal people, admitted I was wrong, and asked for forgiveness and a second chance. That was humbling. This time I am choosing differently. I will look after the people who have been loyal to me and find them roles, with AI handling more of the repeatable work. I accept there are cases where survival of the business forces harder choices. Most of the time, though, the pressure is about additional profit, and I do not think that justifies disregarding years of loyalty. So far I have run 16,297.13km, with 23,777.87km left of the 40,075km lap of the world. The run raises money for children's causes, with a goal of £1M. If you believe in the mission, subscribe, share, like and comment. Episode 2119 - Weekly Milestones and How to Stay on Track With Quarterly Targets
2026/10/18
Weekly milestones are the subject of Day 2119. For the last nine months I have focused on my property business, one I have owned for over 20 years and which had stagnated and become inefficient. When you are that busy, it is hard to judge whether you are trending towards your target. A quarterly target is a 90 day sprint, and a lot happens in 90 days. Monthly stepping stones help, but even a month is a long gap between checks. So I measure weekly. The quarterly target stays fixed. The monthly milestones move a little. The weekly milestones move the most, and that movement is what tells me where I stand. This week was hard, with a lot of travelling and a lot of work, and we finished ahead of what we set out to achieve. The value was not the good feeling. It was the evidence. If I had fallen behind, I would have known within seven days and had time to adjust.I plan at least a month ahead in weekly chunks, and I review at the end of every week. The same approach sits behind the running streak. Today is Day 2119, with 16,289.91km completed and 23,785.09km to go on a lap of the world, barefoot style. The mission is to raise £1M for children's causes. If you believe in it, subscribe, share and leave a comment. Episode 2118 - Dealing With Setbacks: One Step in the Right Direction
2026/10/17
Dealing with setbacks was the topic on day 2,118 of my daily run streak. A close friend once told me life is full of disappointment. He is right, but he left out the second half. How we deal with disappointment decides how fulfilled our life becomes. In this episode I talk about my first reaction to a setback, which is usually "why me?", and why I do not trust it. I explain the framework I use instead, which I call OCHE. An oche is the line you stand behind to throw a dart, and for me it represents the journey of problem solving. O is opportunity. C is what I control. H is having a plan for those controllable parts. E is removing emotion, because emotion masks reality.I also come back to the question every endurance runner hears. How do you finish a marathon or an ultra? One step at a time, in the right direction. Detours are allowed. Stopping is the only real failure.I am 16,282.77km into a 40,075km lap of the world, with 23,792.23km remaining. The run is part of a fundraiser for children's causes, with a target of £1M. Consistency matters more than intensity over a distance this long, and setbacks come with the territory. If you are facing one today, pick the part you control and write down one step. Then take it. #resilience #mindset #streakrunning #endurance #ukrunnerscommunity #runnerslifestyle #ultrarunninglife #runformentalhealth #strava #stravarun #Insta360 #vibramfivefingersWatch the full episode: https://youtu.be/nDyHFA1Xn5g
Episode 2117 - Pride and Failure: Why I Struggled to Admit Defeat
2026/10/17
Pride has been my weak spot for most of my adult life. In this episode, on day 2,117 of my daily running streak, I talk about why I find it so hard to admit failure.Today I listened to Daniel Priestley on The Diary of a CEO and Mark Cuban on How I Built This. Both reminded me that successful entrepreneurs have usually failed several times first, and they say so openly. I have not always done the same.I talk about my childhood as a half Chinese boy in the UK, the tough love from my parents, and how it left me with a drive to prove people wrong. That drive helped me move forward. It also made failure hard to admit. I have had large setbacks in business and come close to bankruptcy a couple of times. I am a trier who keeps going, and for a long time I did not say so.Hiding failure gave people a false picture of me. Some put me on a pedestal and I let them. When I started to be honest, I felt a weight come off. People wanted to hear what I had learned.Running every day leaves no room to hide. After today I have covered 16,275.02km of the 40,075km lap of the world, with 23,799.98km to go. The aim is to raise £1M for children's causes, including Great Ormond Street and BBC Children in Need.If you believe in the mission, subscribe, share and comment. Episode 2116 - Tracking Your Fitness After Injury and Illness
2026/10/16
Tracking your fitness is the subject of today's episode, and I came to it the hard way. Yesterday I ran 16,268.02km, my longest run since I broke my foot around four months ago. Between the injury and four weeks of sinusitis, my fitness has taken a real knock, and I wanted to see exactly how big.I log every run on Strava, and I use the paid fitness score, which needs a heart rate monitor to work. My score sat at about 45 to 47 around last year's marathons. It fell to roughly 20 during the injury and has climbed back into the low 30s. That recovery took months, and it is not finished. Fitness is much easier to maintain than to rebuild.I explain how I pair the Strava trend with the Tanda marathon predictor to set realistic targets for my spring marathons. An unrealistic target either demoralises you or injures you, and I have had enough setbacks this year. The metric you pick matters less than using the same one consistently, so the trend means something. This is day 2,116 of my daily barefoot style running streak. I have covered 16,268.02km of the 40,075km lap of the world, with 23,806.98km remaining. Every run is part of a fundraiser aiming for £1M for children's causes, including Great Ormond Street and BBC Children in Need. The more people who watch, the more money we raise for children. If you compete in endurance events, start tracking this week. Then tell me which metric you use. #fitnesstracking #endurance #streakrunning #recovery #ukrunnerscommunity #runnerslifestyle #ultrarunninglife #runformentalhealth #strava #stravarun #Insta360 #vibramfivefingersWatch the full episode: https://youtu.be/LpoVHs_tAxQ
Episode 2115 - Team Ownership: Why Your Team Must Own the Outcome, Not Just the Tasks
2026/10/16
Team ownership is the subject of Episode 2115, recorded on Day 2115 of my daily running streak. If you manage a team, run a business or build systems, this one is for you.Systemisation asks us to break long processes into small tasks and standard operating procedures. I back this approach. The risk is what happens next. Several people complete small pieces perfectly, and nobody takes control of the whole operating system. The checklist is ticked, yet the outcome suffers. The lesson for me was to give one person ownership of each operating system, and to give that person one metric to evidence the outcome. Several people still work inside the process. The owner removes bottlenecks, catches mistakes and supports colleagues. Because the owner reports the metric, they want it to improve. The structure creates the motivation, so I do not have to.I also cover the limits. Ownership needs authority, access to data and support from the leader. A poorly chosen metric gives the wrong behaviour. This episode sits inside a larger mission. I am running every day in barefoot-style footwear to cover 40,075km, a lap of the world, and to raise £1M for children's causes. My total is 16,260.66km, with 23,814.34km remaining. The streak works the same way as a well-owned operating system: one owner, one metric, reviewed daily, held over 16.5 years.Listen, then ask yourself which operating system in your business has no owner. If you want to support the mission, follow, subscribe and share the episode. #teamownership #systemisation #leadership #ukrunnerscommunity #runnerslifestyle #ultrarunninglife #runformentalhealth #strava #stravarun #Insta360 #vibramfivefingersWatch the full episode: https://youtu.be/Z1nJvsvhK68
