On October 31, 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous founder of Bitcoin, first published Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System (the Bitcoin white paper). Seventeen years later, Bitcoin has become a mainstream financial asset. However, what is less well known is that "blockchain" was not Nakamoto's original term. In the initial code and concepts, he used "Time Chain" to describe the technology. A time chain is a distributed ledger linked together in chronological order using cryptographic technology, serving as the precursor to today’s blockchain. Nakamoto described Bitcoin as a time-stamped ledger of truth. The fourth edition of Frieze Seoul has opened its doors at COEX in Gangnam, once again placing Seoul firmly on the map as a rising powerhouse in the global art scene. Running through September 6, the fair features over 120 leading galleries from across Asia and around the world, offering a vibrant snapshot of today’s artistic voices. Frieze Seoul continues to run in tandem with Kiaf SEOUL, , creating an ecosystem where global exchange meets strong local roots. Through collaborations with Korean institutions, curated programs, and special projects, this year’s fair continues to bridge boundaries and foster meaningful cultural dialogue. This year’s highlights include a carefully curated mix of emerging and established artists whose work engages with material, identity, and urban experience. Among the standout names from my picks are Yulia Iosilzon, whose intricate mixed-media works reflect psychological landscapes; Minjung Woo, known for her ethereal, gesture-based abstractions; and Jae Yong Kim, the beloved donut artist, who returns with his signature glazed ceramic sculptures, rich in humor, color, and cultural commentary. Also featured are Minhaee Kim, whose surreal, cyberpunk style reflects 80’s futurism; Tadashi Kawamata, the renowned Japanese artist whose site-responsive installations often incorporate reclaimed materials; and Zilla Leutenegger, whose animations and spatial drawings blur the lines between the real and the imagined. A major milestone for the fair is the debut of Frieze House Seoul, a new permanent space inaugurated with UnHouse, an exhibition curated by Jae Seok Kim, focusing on queer perspectives of home and identity—an example of the fair’s evolving commitment to underrepresented voices. In this episode, I'll break down the basics of Ordinals, Runes, BRC-20, Inscriptions, and RuneStone Let’s meet the people behind the new Bitcoin ecosystem.  Casey Rodarmor, Creator, Artist, Developer, and founder of Ordinals and Runes protocol.  Domo, the developer who developed the BRC-20 token standard. Leonidas, builder, host, influencer. Leo Caillard, artist, sculptor, and creator of Runestone.  Comparisons with Ordinals and Runes   Ordinals launched on Bitcoin mainnet by developer Casey Rodarmor on January 20, 2023 Ordinals protocol allows for data written directly to each Satoshi, according to the definition on Chainlink, Ordinals are means of creating Bitcoin NFTs by attaching data such as images, videos, and more to an individual Satoshi on the base Bitcoin blockchain. Runes Protocol launched on April 2024. Both the Ordinals protocol and Runes protocol are developed by Casey Rodarmor. Runes were built for degens and memecoins, but the protocol is simple, efficient, and secure. It is a legitimate competitor to Taproot Assets and RGB. The protocol is self-contained and has no dependencies on ordinals or inscriptions, making it extremely simple. ( Casey Rodarmor ) Runes is a new protocol for fungible tokens on Bitcoin after Ordinals. Think of Runes like US dollars. They're based on UTXO (Unspent transaction outputs), which are akin to pouches in which you can store one or more tokens, much like a kangaroo's pouch or a wallet. Runes protocol is lighting compatible, which means it accelerates the transaction.  Inscriptions, on the other hand, are NFTs ( Non-Fungible Tokens like digital art, trading cards, and collectibles ). Casey Rodarmor describes “Inscriptions” are like diamonds, each diamond with unique characteristics such as color, size, clarity, and cut. While BRC-20 tokens use the foundational technology behind Bitcoin Ordinals, they're not quite the same thing. Technically speaking, BRC-20 tokens are Ordinals because they're created by inscribing data to individual Satoshi, ( the smallest amount of Bitcoin )  BRC 20 tokens standard was launched by anonymous developer Domo on March 9, 2023.  BRC-20 tokens embed JSON data into ordinal inscriptions to enable users to deploy, mint, and transfer tokens. The first BRC-20 tokens created contained the following JSON data defining the token’s name, a limit of 1,000 tokens per mint, and a maximum number of 21 million tokens: Leonidas is the builder, marketer, and influencer of Runestone NFTs. On February 20, Leonidas airdropped Runestone NFTs to reward the year one Ordinals community. 112,383 addresses that held 3 non-text inscriptions in their wallet will receive a Runestone, plus a Rune meme token to the Runestone holders, however, the Rune meme tokens have no partnership or add-on value yet, according to the X announcement from The Ordinal.  Leonidas collaborated with the artist, and sculptor, Leo Caillard.  Leo Caillard is the top 20 contemporary artists worldwide according to ArtPrice. I met Ted Galante at ICFF + Wanted Design. His Manhattan chair immediately grab my attention, he made multiple layers of maps and made the layers with layers of history. According to recent data from the Department of Labor, 61% of social scientists and 46% of Math occupations are women.   Nevertheless,  the fast-increased job opportunities for women are nurses, preschool teachers, and maids.  Women are good in Math and science there are not enough opportunities for them.  Artists and content creators are not in any category.  Last year, I had a great online panel with other female artists. Women were highly active in STEM since the 18th Century. AI Ethics team developed a model to prevent the potential harm from scammers who may use “Bing creator” to steal well-known artists’ works for sale. Microsoft fired the team, and the members of the team included engineers and philosophers. According to Elon Musk’s tweet, Microsoft fired its AI safety team.  I think it’s shady when you talk to AI or let the fortune teller tell you your future, it’s a data leak to the third party and you will have no idea how they use your data.  As an artist, I already talk to myself all the time, I don’t need to chat with AI and get the answer from something I don’t know.  Opinions on my own.
