Continuing with my Uni series, it can be hard to know what exactly to bring for your new flat, so Iβve thought of 5 items which you will need for University but might forget to purchase! But these are also items that are really useful to buy for any new home!

Nothing says youβre starting uni more than a good old Ikea shopping trip! Itβs almost compulsory at this point. You drag your parents along, you overfill the trolley with essentials you will definitely need and junk you probably wonβt, but you tell yourself you might. You get to the till and itβs far more expensive than you thoughtβ¦ you swear half the items were only Β£1! I have to say, Iβm guilty of this trip, we all are, right? But is it sustainable? Do we need to buy everything brand new? Is Ikea products the only option?
As Iβm going into my fourth year of being a student, itβs really come to my attention the throwaway culture at university. We buy something new and cheap, which we use for a short period of time before it wears out, breaks or gets left on the side of the road. Itβs convenient but not sustainable. And Iβm not even convinced in the long run it is cheaper. In this blog post, Iβm going to take you through some alternative options for buying your essentials for university, whether youβre a fresher or your returning for another year.
Sustainable Skin Care

Plastic-free skin care is something Iβve been wanting to explore for a while. Stats show that in the beauty industry 120 billion units of packaging are produced every year[1] andΒ 91% ofΒ plastic produced doesnβt get recycled[2]. Plastic packaging is such a massive part of the beauty industry and it can be really difficult to avoid it. And those products which arenβt contained in plastic are often more expensive and harder to come by. In this post Iβm going to be chatting through three new sustainable beauty products Iβve been trying recently; a coffee scrub, cotton face pads and natural bar soap. We canβt necessarily tackle the plastic problem all at once, but, we can start somewhereβ¦

Inspiration:
Inspired by the Netflix documentary βMinimalism: A Documentary About The Important Thingsβ, a few months ago I decided to attempt a more minimalist lifestyle. While for me, this did not mean emptying my house of all unnecessary possessions β which I am sure my parents and housemates would not have been impressed with β I thought of ways I could adopt this lifestyle in a way that was more manageable. But what exactly is minimalism, and could the saying βless is moreβ help us to increase our happiness?

Lists
Firstly, lists, lists and more lists. Lists are great to motivate yourself to do tasks, make sure things get done, and get thoughts out of your head. I mainly use lists to motivate myself to achieve small and big goals!
Find a way to express how you are feeling
Finding a way to express how you are feeling can be so healing. Whether thatβs positivity, thankfulness, or struggles with anxiety or depression, expressing yourself in a way that suits you can help you feel inner peace.
Be kind to yourself
Lastly, be kind to yourself and allow yourself to feel how you feel. Acknowledging how you are feeling can sometimes be such a relief. If you are having a bad day, acknowledge that and give yourself a break.

This month Iβve been trying out sustainable period products! This is an avenue I hadnβt ventured into before and I did a lot of research before choosing to purchase from TOTM. I loved this experience from receiving the brightly coloured packaging and quotes #periodpowerful to using new products that are plastic-free. Iβm going to be reviewing my experience based on: Cost, Comfort and Sustainability. Read on to hear about my experienceβ¦
