The heart of the Reformation is the good news that our salvation rests entirely in Christ, not in our ability to do enough, give enough, or become good enough. Jesus sets us free from having to save ourselves, and that freedom releases us to love, serve, give, and use our lives for the good of others. Loyalty Sunday flows naturally from that Gospel freedom: our first loyalty is to Christ, and because our lives are secure in Him, we can place everything He has entrusted to us at His disposal. Living the dream means living as people who are truly free.

One of the greatest obstacles to generosity is not greed, but fear, and the tithe becomes a practical way to learn trust. Tithing is not God’s fundraising strategy; it is one of His tools for discipleship, reminding us that He is the Owner, the Provider, and the One who deserves first place in our lives. We do not give in order to earn God’s favor or guarantee financial prosperity, but because we trust the God who has already given us His Son. Living the dream means knowing God well enough that we are no longer afraid to trust Him.

Stewardship begins not with what is in our wallets, but with what God has done in our hearts. Everything we have—our time, abilities, relationships, influence, possessions, and finances—is a gift entrusted to us by God. Paul points us to Jesus, who held nothing back but gave Himself completely for us. Living the dream begins when we stop asking, “How much do I own?” and start asking, “What has God placed in my hands, and what would He like to do with it?”

Many Christians feel discouraged because they still struggle with sin, fear, anxiety, temptation, and weakness. The Christian life is not powered by guilt or self-improvement, but by remaining connected to Jesus through the Spirit.

Jesus is the ultimate Spirit-anointed Prophet, Priest, and King promised throughout the Old Testament. People long for someone trustworthy enough to save, lead, heal, and restore them. Jesus is that Savior. The Spirit rests fully upon Jesus so that Jesus may pour out the Spirit upon His people.

The Holy Spirit works through flawed, weak, imperfect people for God’s purposes. Many people feel unqualified, spiritually weak, or ordinary. God has always used broken people. The Spirit’s presence is not earned by perfection. God works through sinners whom He forgives and restores.

The Holy Spirit is the giver of life. From the beginning, the Spirit has been creating, sustaining, renewing, and breathing life into God’s world. Many people today feel drained, anxious, numb, fragmented, and spiritually tired. The Spirit still breathes life into weary people. We are not self-sustaining. The same Spirit who hovered over creation now comes to breathe hope into weary hearts through Christ.

The Book of Kings ends in rubble. The Temple is gone. Jerusalem is ash. God's people are in Babylon. Among them is Jehoiachin, from David's line, in a Babylonian prison. Then a strange thing happens. A new king comes to power, releases Jehoiachin, and gives him a seat at the royal table. Not rescue. Not the end of exile. But a sign that something has not been forgotten.   God has not forgotten His promise to David. One man from that line is still alive, still seated at a table. Matthew opens his Gospel with a genealogy that traces the line from Abraham to David, from David to Jehoiachin, and from Jehoiachin to Jesus. The story of Kings does not end in Babylon. It ends at a table where Jesus, the Son of David, pulls up a chair and says there is room for you here.

Josiah becomes king as a child. Years into his reign, workers repairing the Temple make a startling discovery: the Book of the Law has been lost inside God's own house. The book God gave His people to live by was buried under neglect. That detail alone tells us how far Judah had fallen.   When the book is read to Josiah, he tears his robes. He doesn't explain it away. He doesn't negotiate. He repents. His response is the question this story leaves with us: what happens when we actually hear God's Word? What would it mean to receive it as if for the first time? Jesus is the Word made flesh. He was never lost. He came looking for us.

The Northern Kingdom is gone. Now Sennacherib of Assyria is at Jerusalem's gates with an army and a letter mocking God by name. Hezekiah reads the letter, walks into the Temple, and spreads it before the Lord. No plan. No army. Just a king laying what he cannot carry into God's hands.   That night, the angel of the Lord moves through the Assyrian camp. By morning, 185,000 soldiers are dead. Sennacherib goes home. Some things are simply too large for our hands. Hezekiah shows us what to do with them. Jesus did the same thing in Gethsemane, placing our entire broken world before His Father. The God who answered Hezekiah still answers.

In 2 Kings 5, we meet Naaman, the commanding general of Aram – an enemy of Israel. Naaman is powerful, successful, highly respected, but dying of leprosy. After taking a young Israelite girl captive, Naaman learns from her about the prophet Elisha. He travels to Israel looking for healing and discovers humility.   The story of Naaman is parabolic, in that it teaches us something about the fundamental nature of God’s grace in the Kingdom of Christ. Grace comes through unexpected people, unexpected places, and unexpected means. It confronts our arrogance, strips away our pride, and teaches us to live with our hands open to receive what God gives.   In Naaman’s story, God works through weak and unlikely, through a captive girl, a dirty river, and a simple command, all so that His glory might be unmistakable.

The morning after Mount. Carmel, Elijah is forced to flee into the wilderness, for fear of his life! After one of the most triumphant moments of his ministry, Elijah is brought to the end of himself. He sits beneath a broom true and asks God to let him die.   It’s there that the angel of the Lord ministers to Elijah, giving him enough food, rest, and strength for the journey to Mount Horeb. At Horeb, Elijah encounters the presence of God – not in the wind, earthquake, or fire, but in a still small whisper.   In this profound story, we encounter a God that invites us to pour out our hearts before Him: our fears, our disappointments, our frustrations, and our weariness. We discover a God that meets us with His patience, provision, and the mercy of His presence.
