282 - Both at Once (Music Box)
2026/10/04
Psalm 66:5–6
Come and see what our God has done, what awesome miracles he does for his people! He made a dry path through the Red Sea,and his people went across on foot.Come, let us rejoice in who he is.
When I look back on some of the hardest times of my life, what I remember more than anything is how God drew me near to Himself through it all.
This week, I’ll expand on last week’s episode, "Empty and Full." I’ll share the comfort and help I continue to find in knowing that my cup can be empty and full—both at once.
I’ll also share how a music box lullaby (which I try to replicate) helped me remember the goodness of God while lying under a thin hospital blanket.
I’ll close with the song, "Oxygen," and read to you from:
Psalm 66:1–9Psalm 65:4Psalm 23:5

281 - Empty and Full
2026/09/27
Psalm 65:4
How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to YouTo dwell in Your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house,Your holy temple.
In this episode, I’ll share some of the ways the Lord has brought me near after a time of sickness and ER visits. I’ll also explain the intricate process that goes into choosing “encore” episodes. Spoiler alert: it has nothing to do with me, though I sometimes get the credit.
I’ll also tell you why I now have a new answer to the question: Am I a “cup half empty” or “cup half full” kind of person? (I learned a lot from David.)
I will read to you from:
Psalm 65:1–13
Psalm 13:1–2, 5–6
Psalm 63:1–4
Psalm 23:5

280 - Where Are Those Mountains Now? (Encore)
2026/09/20
This week, we are revisiting a favorite episode. We hope you enjoy going back with us.
Psalm 36:5
Your lovingkindness, O LORD, extends to the heavens,
Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
When a songwriter wants to express something huge and meaningful, they think of the biggest things they can… mountains, galaxies, the ocean.
In this episode, we will look at God’s faithfulness. If you can see the sky, you have a glimpse at the size of it.
Along with the verses below, I will read part of the backstory to the hymn, "Great is Thy Faithfulness."
I will read to you from:
Psalm 33:4
1 Corinthians 1:9
1 Corinthians 10:13
1 Thessalonians 5:24
2 Thessalonians 3:3
2 Timothy 2:13
Hebrews 10:23
Psalm 36:5-9
Lamentations 3:23-24

279 - Reorienting
2026/09/13
Psalm 62:8 (NKJV)Trust in Him at all times, you people;Pour out your heart before Him;God is a refuge for us. Selah
What does it look like to follow Jesus when life keeps changing?
I’ve been thinking about the importance of reorienting, turning back when we drift, course-correcting when our thoughts, words, or actions don’t align with Jesus, and learning to adjust as seasons of life change.
Sometimes we can prepare for these course corrections. Other times, change catches us completely by surprise.
I find comfort knowing that no matter what’s happening emotionally, physically, spiritually, or geographically, God knows exactly where we are.
He is our Refuge. Our solid Rock. He does not change.
I will read to you from:
Psalm 62:8
1 Peter 5:7
Genesis 28:16
Matthew 6:25–34
Psalm 139:7–18

278 - Near the Broken
2026/09/06
Psalm 34:18 (ESV)
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted
and saves the crushed in spirit.
In this episode, we reflect on Psalm 34:18, the many examples of Jesus drawing near to the broken, and how He often uses ordinary people to remind us of His presence. From a friend’s childhood story that became a lifelong friendship to friends breaking through a roof to bring someone to Jesus, we see compassion in motion.
Jesus never overlooked the brokenhearted and He hasn’t changed.
Whether you are the one who needs to be reminded that God is near, or you are the one reminding someone else, I hope you will be encouraged.
Scriptures in this episode:
Psalm 34:15–19
Mark 5:25–34
Luke 5:18–19
Matthew 9:35-38
Isaiah 61:1-3
John 13:34–35

277 - All Who Are Weary (Encore)
2026/08/30
This week, we are revisiting a favorite episode. We hope you enjoy going back with us.
Matthew 11:28
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.
At the request of a friend, I recently sent my email list the song “All Who Are Weary."
A while back, I recorded a project called Comfort-19 and included this song along with some thoughts on Matthew 11:28-30. I will share these thoughts and songs with you.
I slipped in an additional song at the end, but I will leave it as a surprise. It just seemed fitting.

276 - Steadfast Love (Every Morning)
2026/08/23
Psalm 33:18
Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him,
on those who hope in his steadfast love,
In this episode, we will look at the lovely, little word, “hope” — specifically, what it means to hope in His steadfast love.
I wasn’t feeling well when I spent time on these thoughts and verses. Though I didn’t feel very hopeful, I still knew I wasn’t without hope. Maybe you can relate?
I will share some of the ways my hope was fanned into flame, maybe a flicker. It had to do with prayer, FaceTime, Scripture and a new, little song that I will play for you at the end of the episode.
The song is called, "Every Morning," and the words are:
Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV)
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

275 - Please Help Her
2026/08/16
Romans 8:26-27 (NASB)
In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
When I looked for an illustration of the word “intercedes” in verse 26, I found this sentence as part of an example (I’ll share the rest in the episode): “Please help her. She doesn’t even know how to explain what she’s feeling.” This painted a funny and all-too-realistic image in my mind, which helped me in real time.
I will also read Romans 8:26-39, where we are reminded that He intercedes for us, He is for us, and nothing—not suffering, hardship, fear, nor even death—can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
If your heart has been heavy, you’ve felt inadequate, or you’ve struggled to find the words, I hope this episode is an encouragement to you.

274 - The Answer
2026/08/09
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
-Romans 8:1
Have you ever reached the end of the day discouraged because you lost your patience… again?
After talking with a close friend about her struggle to be patient with her kids (who, by the way, have a wonderful mom), I found my own patience being tested after two frustrating hours on the phone with my insurance company. As I was transferred from one department to another, I could feel my impatience thermometer rising.
Whether it’s driving, a certain co-worker, “customer service,” or grape jelly on your new carpet, we can lose patience and say, or even think, things we wish we hadn’t.
Even the apostle Paul wrestled with this. We will look at Romans 7, where Paul wrote of his struggle and, more importantly, his answer. Spoiler alert: his answer is the same as ours.
I’ll end the episode with my song, "Because You First Loved Me."

273 - Mercy Giver
2026/08/02
Jeremiah 38:10–11
Then the king commanded Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, “Take thirty men with you from here, and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the cistern before he dies.” So Ebed-melech took the men with him and went to the house of the king, to a wardrobe in the storehouse, and took from there old rags and worn-out clothes, which he let down to Jeremiah in the cistern by ropes.
In an earlier episode called "Bricks, Rags, and Mercy" (episode 217), I shared how Ebed-melech showed mercy by using old rags and worn-out clothes to make Jeremiah’s rescue much less harsh than ropes alone.
Mercy softens the rough edges of life in this world—whether through rags, old clothes, casseroles, songs, a cold cup of water, or a brick on a step.
You’ll have to listen to discover how two bricks on the top step of a community pool, a family of fuzzy little ducklings, and a year-long question became another reminder of God’s mercy. Then, one year later, eight new ducklings arrived… and the story wasn’t over.

272 - In the Shelter (Encore)
2026/07/26
This week, we are revisiting a favorite episode. We hope you enjoy going back with us.
Psalm 61:1-4
Hear my cry, O God;
Attend to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For You have been a shelter for me,
A strong tower from the enemy.
I will abide in Your tabernacle forever;
I will trust in the shelter of Your wings.
Overwhelmed means faint, worn out, buried beneath a weight.
Times of overwhelm come and go, and when they come, lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.
I will sing the song, "In the Shelter."
I wrote the music and David wrote the words.

271 - Where My Help Comes From
2026/07/19
Psalm 121:1-2
I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;
From where shall my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.
Psalm 121 has a way of lifting our eyes off of what we see, and onto the Lord. Who, by the way, made both heaven and earth.
I confess to sometimes looking for answers in the internet whirlwind, which often brings more stress than help. As I read through this Psalm, I remembered again Who is watching over us.
Psalm 121:8
The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go,
both now and forever.
What or who are you watching over right now? Your health? A loved one? A long workday? How good it is to remember, He watches over us while we watch over everything before our eyes.
I will end this episode with the song, "I Shall Not Be Afraid."

270 - Nourishing Words
2026/07/12
Proverbs 15:4 (NKJV)
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
I was struck by the picture in Proverbs 15:4. A wholesome, soothing, gentle tongue is compared to a tree of life. One commentary described it this way: "a properly nourished tree grows and provides shade and refreshment for all who seek its shelter."
What a contrast to words that are reckless, deceitful, or harsh. Proverbs says they can break or crush the spirit. Most of us have experienced the sting of careless words, but hopefully we have also been strengthened by words that brought comfort, wisdom, and healing at just the right time.
We probably all would like to get better with our words (even the ones we think). The good news is that we can learn to speak differently as we follow the example of Jesus.
Isaiah describes Him as One Who listened to His Father morning by morning so that He would know “the word that sustains the weary.”
As we receive His wisdom, comfort, and instruction, we learn to give the same away. May our words become a tree of life, offering shade, refreshment, healing, and hope to those around us.

269 - Starving for Thirst
2026/07/05
John 7:37-38 (NKJV)
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
When Jesus cried out to the crowd, He didn’t need to explain the difference between physical thirst and the thirst He was offering to quench.
Every time I read these verses, it does me good to evaluate my thirst. I hope it might do you good too. I don’t think there is ever a time I don’t need and welcome this invitation.
We thirst every day, He invites us to come to Him every day. We need Him, I need Him — every day.
Jesus Himself is like a huge glass of clear, cool water to our souls.

268 - The Fuel of Perseverance (The Restore Project - Part 9 Encore)
2026/06/28
We are currently revisiting The Restore Project series. We hope you enjoy going back with us.
Welcome to The Restore Project — a series centered around Psalm 23.
Here is Session 9.
(Feel free to listen in any order.)
Psalm 23:6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
This is the last episode of The Restore Project. I will go over some themes we’ve looked at in this series, kind of like when you skip a rock and it leaves rings where it’s been. Just a skim over.
Maybe you’ll hear something you want to revisit, or missed altogether. (Fun fact, I love skipping rocks.)
I will end with the song, "The Lord is My Shepherd," which is Psalm 23 in its entirety and is the third song I’ve written inspired by this Psalm. Well, I only wrote the music, David wrote the words.
Thank you for following along.
