Traveling to Mars and Flex Mentallo
2025/10/24
In which our heroes find the message from Traveling to Mars uplifting and also heartbreaking. And they both loved Flex Mentallo for the complexity that neither of them understood.
Traveling to Mars Written by Mark Russell Art by Roberto Meli
Flex Mentallo: Man of Muscle Mystery Deluxe Written by Grant Morrison Art by Frank Quitley
Lone Wolf and Cub and The Defenders
2025/10/10
Once again Jav’s selection cannot compare to Charles’. This time it’s not because Jav picked something bad it’s that Charle picked something awesome and old. Like older than Jav and Charles.
Lone Wolf and Cub Written by Kazuo Koike Art by Goseki Kojima
The Defenders by Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis and Kevin Maguire
S5E3 Minor Threats and Fire & Ice Welcome to Smallville
2025/09/26
In this episode Jav continues to suggest teen targeted comics and Charles continues to like them. They both like both the comics and have a quick and very non tagenty conversation about them.
Minor Threats Vol 1. Written by Patton Oswalt and Jordan Bloom Art by Scott Hepburn
Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville Written by Joanne Starer Art by Natacha Bustos
S5E2 the Star Wars and Star Trek: Lower Decks
2025/09/12
Season 5 Episode 2
The two Stars – Wars and Trek – together for the first time. Charles and Jav’s, all time favs together at last. One a comic based on the original draft of The Star Wars and the other a cartoon turned comic Star Trek Lower Decks both great in their own way but what’s best is finally the settling of the great nerd war.
The Star Wars Written by Jonathan W Rinzler Art by Mike Mayhew
Star Trek: Lower Decks Written by Ryan North Art by Chris Fenoglio
S5E1 Shazam Vol 1: Meet the Captain and The Unbeatable Squirrel Gir Vol 2: Squirrell Power
2025/08/28
Welcome back to the all-new season of JCTC. After a shortened 4th season – find out why in the episode – our heroes have returned with two all new – to them – comics. Charles suggested a Shazam comic which he insisted on calling Captain Marvel and Jav suggested Squirrel Girl which Charles took credit for suggesting to Jav in the past. So basically, Charles is still sometimes a dick.
Shazam Vol 1: Meet the Captain Written by Mark Waid Art by Dan Mora
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Vol. 2: Squirrel Power Written by Ryan North Art by Erica Henderson
S4E8 Darth Vader and Secret Invasion
2024/08/02
In which the Force is strong in our heroes, and Charles clearly holds a grudge against Tony Stark. Jav picked Secret Invasion to read and both he and Charles loved the arc and Charles was happy Jav didn’t ask him to read every comic in that event (but Charles probably already has). Charles attempted to out nerd Jav by suggesting the beginning of the first Darth Vader comic run, where he must earn his red lightsaber.
Secret Invasion Written by Brian Michael Bendis Art by Leinil Francis Yu
Darth Vader Written by Charles Soule Art by Giuseppe Camuncoli
S4E7 Spider-Man Kraven's Last Hunt and ElephantMen
2024/07/19
Two comics enter and two comics were discussed as usual. We don’t have the ability to dispose of a comic and Jav would never want to and Charles would at least feel guilty. Both comics were enjoyed by both hosts and much merriment was had along the way.
Spider-Man Kraven’s Last Hunt Written by Marc DeMatteis Art by Mike Zeck
ElephantMen Written by Richard Starkings Art by Moritat
S4E6 Batman The Court of Owls and John Constantine, Hellblazer: Original Sins
2024/07/05
In which our heroes discuss two DC comics Batman: Court of Owls and John Constantine, Hellblazer Vol. 1: Original Sins. Both were liked by both Charles and Jav although Jav clearly hated the art in the Batman arc saying the artist was only borderline great.
Batman: The Court of Owls Issues 1-7 Written by Scott Snyder Art by Greg Capullo
John Constantine, Hellblazer Vol. 1: Original Sins Written by Jamie Delano Art by John Ridgway
S4E5 Pulp and The Sensational She-Hulk
2024/06/21
Prepare to break the fourth wall as Jav and Charles talk about John Byrne’s She-Hulk run from the 80s. Then they discuss a much newer comic set much earlier in 1939 called Pulp and it was just that, a pulpy masterpiece from Ed Brubaker.
Pulp Written by Ed Brubaker Art by Sean Phillips and Jacob Phillips
The Sensational She-Hulk Art and Writing by John Byrne
S4 Bonus Ep Special Guest Mark Reznicek
2024/06/15
In a very special episode Jav and Charles talk comics with a very special guest Mark Reznicek not only is he a huge comics fan he is also the drummer for The Toadies. It was great having the opportunity to talk to someone who clearly knows a lot about comics but also loves them the way Jav and Charles do.
S4E4 The Dark Knight Returns and Superman: Panic in the Sky
2024/05/24
Episode 4
Buckle up buckaroos it’s long one. Our heroes finally talk about The Dark Night Returns and talk they do. Surprisingly enough they liked it. Then they talk about a Superman arc Panic in the Sky which was a lot of fun to read and discuss.
The Dark Knight Returns Written and Drawn by Frank Miller
Superman: Panic in the Sky By Ordway, Grummett & Hazlewood
S4E3 Fantastic Four: Life Story and Secret Six
2024/05/09
In which Jav and Charles have a deep and intricate discussion of the finer details of the Secret Six and Fantastic Four: Life Story. Just kidding, all they remembered about Secret Six was they liked it a lot and they got hung up arguing about why no mutants appeared in Fantastic Four. Jav complained a lot about their not being mutants to the point where he damned it with his greatest scorn, “I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would.”
Fantastic Four: Life Story Written by Mark Russell Art by Sean Izaakse
Secret Six Written by Gail Simone Art by Dale Eaglesham
S4E2 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin and Sandman Mystery Theatre
2024/04/26
In which our heroes argue over how to build suspense. Well Charles argues for that, Jav just spoils things. This episode has some very heavy themes in the comics and the boys discuss them with the same tact and care they do with all their comic choices.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin Written by Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird, and Tom Waltz Art by Esau Escorza, Isaac Escorza, Ben Bishop, and Kevin Eastman
Sandman Mystery Theatre Written by Matt Wagner Art by Guy Davis, Richard G. Taylor, and John Watkiss
S4E1 Superman: Red Son and House of X/Powers of X
2024/04/12
First episode of season four, in which our heroes participate in a predestination paradox both in this podcast twice and in every one of their other podcasts. As in all our podcasts two comic arcs were read one suggested by Jav, House of X/Powers of X and one suggested by Charles, Superman: Red Son. Charles liked one of them if you've listened before you can probably guess which one.
Superman: Red Son Written by Mark Millar Art by Dave Johnson and Kilian Plunkett
House of X/Powers of X Written by Jonathan Hickman Art by Pepe Larraz, R. B. Silva, and Mark Brooks
S3E17 Watchmen and House of M
2024/01/10
In which Charles compares Watchmen to Gwenpool and it makes sense. In this extremely late final episode of Season 3 Jav and Charles discuss the granddaddy of all graphic novels Watchmen. They both loved it. The second comic they read was House of M and although they spend a lot less time talking about it they both enjoyed it very much. Tune in for Episode 1 of Season 4 when they talk about Superman: Red Son and House of X / Powers of X.
Watchmen Written by Alan Moore Art by Dave Gibbons
House of M Written by Brian Michael Bendis Art by Olivier Coipel
