Lifestyle and Behavioural Interventions for Urinary Incontinence in Frail Older Adults: Review of Recent Evidence
2026/06/24
In this episode, host Gisela Assis (Nurse, Brazil) is joined by Kristine Talley (Nurse, United States) and Janie Thompson (Nurse, Australia) to discuss a recent review of evidence into lifestyle and behavioral interventions for urinary incontinence in frail older adults. It is based on an article in the Continence journal Volume 13 2025. New research, clinical guidelines or clinical trials were considered since the 7th International Consultation on Incontinence (ICI). It was found that the evidence remains limited in this population group despite the significant impact of urinary incontinence on the frail older adults: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2772973725000062
Together, the panel explores the current state of evidence in this important area, highlighting that, despite the significant impact of urinary incontinence on frail older adults, evidence for effective interventions in this population remains limited. The discussion also reflects on implications for clinical practice and future research priorities.

Botulinum toxin injection templates for overactive bladder: why and when?
2026/04/29
In this episode of the ICS Podcast, we explore how botulinum toxin (BoNT‑A) injection techniques for overactive bladder (OAB) are evolving—and why injection location, depth, and template may matter more than ever.
Hosted by Juan Peñafiel and Shannon Wallace, the discussion brings together two internationally recognised experts: Benoit Peyronnet (Urologist) and Michael Kennelly (Neurourologist). Together, they examine the growing evidence behind trigonal and trigone‑sparing injection strategies, challenging long‑held dogmas around reflux risk and urinary retention.
Key topics include:
Why and when to consider trigonal or predominantly trigonal injection templatesHow injection depth, volume, and number of sites influence outcomesStrategies to reduce the risk of urinary retention while maintaining efficacyDifferences in approach for idiopathic vs neurogenic OABPractical tips for training, technique, and tailoring treatment to individual patientsThe conversation also reflects on gaps in the current evidence base, what future trials are still needed, and how clinicians can safely adapt their practice today.
