This week join me to know more in-depth about the NFT’s and the expanding Korean art market. And in the second part of the episode don't miss the usual weekly exhibition review. This week I visited the Amore Pacific Museum of Art to discover and explore the work of American artist Mary Corse.

The exhibition now on view in the space is “Looking for Andy” which includes works of Andy Warhol. Warhol was a successful magazine and ad illustrator who became a leading artist of the 1960s Pop art movements. He ventured into a wide variety of art forms, including performance art, filmmaking, video installations, and writing, and controversially blurred the lines between fine art and mainstream aesthetics.

The Korean contemporary artist invites us to think about the effects of disaster on the human condition in his portrait series.

The seventh episode of the podcast is an insight into the recently open Seoul Museum of Art Craft in the Jongro District. The opening of the Seoul Museum of Craft Art has long been awaited. Korea's first museum dedicated to craft arts was originally planned to be in September of 2018. The museum is located in a highly popular touristic area within walking distance of Bukchon Hanok Village, Insadong, and Gyeongbokgung Palace. Such a privileged location is also a very important historical landmark. The site is where Prince Youngeung (1434-67), the eighth son of King Sejong the Great (1397-1450), built his home and where Sejong died. It is also where King Gojong (1852-1919) built the royal villa Andong Byeolgung for the coronation of his son and successor Sunjong (1874-1926). Also During the Japanese Colonial Period, the residence became the Poongmoon Girls' High School. The museum which is the first of its kind in Korea is open to visitors to discover the rich history, techniques, and pieces behind diverse Korean Crafts.

The Gallery Hyundai holds “From a Dream”, a solo exhibition for the artist Lee Kang-so, who is a remarkable painter in the history of Korean contemporary art. From the 1970s until these days, he has been crossing different territories, such as installation, performance, photography, video, print, painting, and sculpture.

“Homin and Jaehwan” is a duo exhibition featuring the works of Joo Jaehwan and his son Joo Homin. Joo Jaehwan is an artist who presents with humor insight on the key issues in Korea. His son Homin is a renowned “webtoon” (online comics) creator who rose to stardom for his webtoon exploring the notion of the afterlife in Korean mythology. The exhibition centers on how the role of artists as storytellers has evolved and manifested differently across generations and integrates images and text as a common means of storytelling. We can see also the artists’ storytelling methods according to their respectively dissimilar personalities and media of choice

On the 7th floor of the architectural contemporary landmark of Seoul, the Lotte Art Museum, the exhibition of the world-acclaimed illustrator Kim Junggi invites audiences to cross to the other side of life, death imagination, and time. Kim has gained the world’s attention with his “Live Drawing” technique, which pushes the boundaries of drawing crossing to the realm of performance. This is a unique opportunity to explore a comprehensive collection that includes materials which served to the artist as an inspiration, as well of more than 1000 drawing made during his career and works in progress that are being developed during the exhibition period. The exhibition also invites audiences to have a glimpse at his particular worldview. Pop culture is a component that is highlighted in diverse collaborations that the artist has made in projects for Netflix, Blizzard’s World of Warcraft, and Bong Junho’s movie “Parasite”, among others. The work of Kimjunngi is not only about mastering the technique. It is possible to see that in his works there is a deep med=ssage. Both in form and story there is without any doubt a cinematic approach that submerges audiences in an engaging and intense experience.

YOSIGO is a photographer based in Barcelona, Spain. Widely popular on social media platforms for his summer-like photos is presenting his first solo exhibition in Korea at the Groundseesaw Gallery. Barcelona, Miami, and Dubai. With more than 150 photos of the scenery and architecture of tourist attractions as main subjects.

“Fortune Telling”, at the Ilmin Museum is a journey of reinterpreting shamanism and a cosmic worldview. The visitors are invited to look inside and think about the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, a period characterized by uncertainty.

Under the concept of a vintage store, the exhibition invites visitors to think about how to deal with climate change, a recurring subject in contemporary art. The exhibition theme was also chosen to commemorate the 2021 P4G Seoul Summit, held in May.
