How I Made Writing a Priority
2021/08/13
In this week's episode, I talk about making writing more important in my life.  If you struggle with too many interests (like I do) or a lack of time, then the formula I share will help. It's important to remember that books are written word by word, but if you can't find a way to your writing desk, maybe it's time to reevaluate.
Episode 7 - Writing on The Bad Days
2021/07/29
I believe that it's a good idea to write every day, even on the bad ones. In fact, the bad days often feed our fiction with juicy insight. If you consider that we tell stories to explore the human condition, then writing when it rains will make your fiction more realistic. In this week's episode, I talk about a recent bit of bad news I received and how writing kept me afloat.
Episode 6 - Creative Energy is Expensive
2021/07/22
The time you spend writing is precious. When you work on your novel, it's crucial that you have some creative energy to draw from.  Here's the problem, some days it's there, and some days it's not.  The work of creation takes emotional and intellectual effort. In today's episode, I talk about how to arrive at your writing desk each day with a cup full of creative energy.
Episode 5 - Will Speed Reading Make You a Better Writer?
2021/07/15
I took a speed reading course this year to see if I could consume more fiction. In this week's episode, I dig deep into what I learned and discuss if it was worth the time and money.  As writers, we need to be great at two things: writing and reading a lot. But what does that mean? Is it better to read 5 books a year, or 50?  If you've been thinking of putting money down to increase your reading speed, listen to this week's episode first.  Leave a review: If you liked this week's show, leave a review. I'd appreciate any feedback so that I can make the show as strong as possible for you.  Until next week, be kind and write on.
Episode 4 - Stay Committed and Write That Novel
2021/07/08
If you've ever struggled with procrastination when it comes to working on your novel, this episode is for you. This week, I discuss the author Victor Hugo and the tactic he used to finish his book, The Huntchback of Notre-Dame. I also give you five concrete tips that will help you get committed and finish that manuscript.  If you liked this week's episode, I'd be grateful for a review on Apple Podcasts. As a new show, it really helps to get the word out.  Thanks for tuning in. Be kind, and write on.
Episode 3 - Improve as a Writer by 3,800% this Year
2021/07/01
In this week's episode, I talk about how writers become masters. They're not born great, and they don't achieve excellence through an MFA. Instead, they use this method to move their craft forward. Let's dig in and see what's going on.
Episode 2 - Establishing a Writing Habit
2021/06/26
Why do so many people start writing a novel and never finish?  In this week's episode, I explore how the desire to write a book isn't enough. I also talk about willpower and how that can fail you.  When life gets tough, we need a writing system to keep us consistent. It's time to establish a writing habit that will always be there for us.
Episode 1 - Finding Time to Write
2021/06/17
In the very first episode of Keep Me Writing, I talk about how to find time to write. If you're struggling to make time for your novel, join me as I discuss William Faulkner's approach to getting the work done.  The goal of this podcast is to help writers build strong writing habits.  Thanks for listening, and for your support!
