Episode 151: Dreams in the Hallway
2026/10/01
Send us Fan Mail YouTube Description — You’ve Got Dreams! Have you ever had a dream that seemed to sit quietly on the shelf for years? In this episode of Permission to Pause, I’m sharing the story behind one of my favorite fall movies, You’ve Got Mail, and the unexpected way it planted a dream in my heart more than 25 years ago. Every October 1, that movie takes me back to New York in the fall, Kathleen Kelly’s little Shop Around the Corner, and a dream I carried for years: creating a warm, inviting place filled with books and resources for women. This year, that dream finally took a new shape with the opening of A Woman’s Quest Café—my own little online “shop around the corner,” filled with books, resources, encouragement, and community.  But this episode is about more than a bookstore dream. It’s about your dreams. Sometimes a door closes. Sometimes a dream pauses. Sometimes we find ourselves standing in the hallway between what was and what comes next. But a closed door does not have to be the end of your story.  We’ll talk about three truths for those seasons: The pause is not necessarily a no.God can redeem the waiting. The new chapter may look different from the original dream. Ep 151 Youve got MailSo grab your coffee—or your pumpkin spice latte—and join me. What dream have you set down in the hallway? Maybe it’s time to pick it back up. Visit A Woman’s Quest Café and take my free “What Season Are You In?” quiz. Then tell me where you are right now: in the in-between, holding steady, or building something new.  https://stan.store/patlayton Subscribe to Permission to Pause for more conversations about faith, calling, purpose, and finding God in the in-between. #PermissionToPause #YouveGotDreams #ChristianWomen #WomenOfFaith #FindingYourCalling #DreamAgain #FaithOverFear #MidlifeWomen #ChristianPodcast #A womansQuest Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. Episode 150: When Yesterday Shows Up Today
2026/09/25
Send us Fan Mail When Yesterday Shows Up Today: Awareness Before Direction Pause and think about this: There are moments in our faith journey when something happens that catches us off guard. And I don't think it matters how long we've been walking with the Lord, how much Scripture we know, how much healing we've experienced, or how mature we believe our faith has become. Every now and then, something touches an old place. That happened to me this past week. I experienced some hurt and heartbreak over something another person did. The truth is, I don't think this person even knew they had hurt me. I'm not even completely sure it would have mattered to them if they did know. But as I sat with what I was feeling, I realized something important. This really wasn't about them. It was about what their actions stirred up in me. Episode 149: Journaling Shakes My Thoughts Loose
2026/09/18
Send us Fan Mail In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it's easy to lose track of the myriad thoughts that swirl inside us. Often, it's not until we take a moment to sit quietly with our thoughts that we begin to untangle them.  For me, sitting down with my Bible, journal, and pen is a sacred ritual that reveals so much about my inner world.  It's as if journaling shakes my thoughts loose, allowing them to separate and unravel secrets within me, revealing what truly bothers me. Lets pause and think about that!  Check out my new Quiet Quest Guided Jounaling Series on Amazon and my Private Jounaling Group--Quiet Quest: https://www.skool.com/quiet-quest-bible-journaling Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. Episode 146: When Life Interrupts Your Rhythm
2026/07/22
Send us Fan Mail Have you ever noticed how easy it is to lose a good rhythm? Morning prayer, journaling with your coffee still warm, a walk around the block — and then life happens. A trip, family in town, a deadline that won't move, a health scare that rearranges everything overnight. And before long you're looking at the wreckage of your good intentions wondering, "What happened to me?" In this episode of the Hallway series, Pat shares how the last few weeks pulled her clean out of her own rhythms — and the gentle whisper that stopped her mid-scramble: maybe she never left the track at all. Together we'll walk through three truths for the hallway: • God doesn't leave you because your routine changes — we mistake routine for relationship. • Hallways disrupt old rhythms on purpose — He may not be asking you to recover your old routine, but inviting you to discover a new rhythm. • Grace begins again every morning — the Holy Spirit isn't asking "Why did you stop?" He's asking, "Would you like to walk with Me today?" Write this one down and put it on your mirror: "God is not waiting for you at the end of your routine. He's walking with you in the middle of your interruption." Mentioned in this episode: • A Quiet Quest — Pat's new community on Skool for women walking through the in-between seasons • Pat's new 21-day guided journal for the Hallway season, available on Amazon Next week in the Hallway: How do you know which rhythms God actually wants you to keep? Because not every rhythm deserves to come back with you. Until then, friend — be gentle with yourself. Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. I would love to hear from you! Episode 145: Discover Your Place in the Hallway
2026/06/26
Send us Fan Mail Feeling lost or unsure about your next steps? It’s easy to get caught in the "in-between seasons" of life – those hallways that feel long and undefined. In this episode of "Permission to Pause," we dive deep into the vital "Discover" step of navigating these seasons. Pat Layton explores why pausing and listening are only the beginning; true progress comes from understanding *exactly* where you are within your current season and how God is guiding you. Don’t let uncertainty cloud your path – learn how to find clarity, peace, and purpose as you journey through your hallway. This isn't about generic spiritual advice—it's about recognizing your unique experience. Whether you're just entering a hallway, deep within the waiting, or nearing the exit, this episode will offer insights and encouragement. We’ll discuss the varied experiences within these seasons and how to identify your specific place. It’s about embracing the belief that “the hallway is not the end of the story. It’s the corridor to the next chapter.” To help you on this journey, we're offering a special gift: a 7-day devotional, “The Hallway,” designed to guide you in reflecting on your season and finding direction. Let’s uncover your place and your purpose together! Join us and discover the clarity you’ve been seeking. Thank you for joining me on today's Permission to Pause. I would love to hear from you! Episode 144: Finding Hallway Rest in Five Simple Steps
2026/06/16
Send us Fan Mail Are you feeling like you're standing in a hallway? That in-between space where a chapter of your life has closed, but the next one hasn’t quite begun? Maybe it's a shift in your family, career, or a dream that’s evolved. This episode explores that very experience, offering a fresh perspective on these seasons of transition. Join host Pat Layton as she reframes “the hallway” not as a problem to be solved, but as a precious opportunity for preparation and renewal, a true gift from God. Many women experience a sense of “now what?” during these transitional periods, feeling unsure of what's next. But what if this time isn’t a waiting room, but a preparation space? Pat guides you through five practical steps – Pause, Listen, Discover, Dare, and Flourish – to navigate these seasons with trust and grace. You'll learn to release old burdens, connect with God’s guidance, and uncover hidden potential, recognizing that every chapter of your life has been preparing you for something. This isn't about becoming a new person, but about embracing the gifts and experiences you already possess. Discover how confidence comes from taking that first step, and how flourishing isn't about reaching a destination but embracing the present season with joy and purpose. Let go of the past, listen for God's direction, and step forward with courage, knowing your story is far from over.  In this episode: Pat Layton reframes “the hallway” — those in-between seasons when one chapter has closed but the next hasn’t begun — and walks through five steps to move through it well. Episode 143: Finding Rest Hallway Silence
2026/06/14
Send us Fan Mail Do you ever feel like you're wandering a hallway, disconnected from God, wondering where He's gone? You’re not alone. In this episode of "Permission to Pause," we explore the often-difficult experience of feeling spiritually dry – what Pat Layton calls a "hallway season." It’s tempting to feel like a failure when the vibrant connection you once felt fades, but what if this silence isn't a sign of abandonment? Pat, a seasoned coach with over 40 years of experience walking alongside women, shares profound insights on navigating these seasons with grace and finding renewal in stillness. We’ll unpack the dangers of "spiritual bypassing" and discover how to release the pressure of performance, shifting instead into a place of peaceful presence with God. Learn how to trust the guidance you’ve already received and find strength in community, even when His voice seems distant. Ultimately, this episode is a gentle invitation to rest, reflect, and remember: even in the hallway, God is present, and your journey isn't over.
