The ICGEB has launched a new series of seminars focusing on Technology Transfer. Renowned experts and TT professionals from academy and private sector, talk about key processes and definitions of TT, from commercialisation aspects to the broader concept of impact, sharing their knowledge and experience in the valorisation of research results, collaboration with industry, and promotion of entrepreneurship. The TT collection supports the understanding of the innovation process and its main players, highlighting opportunities and challenges for research scientists who are more and more engaged in developing new products and services to the benefit of society. Transfer of technology to industry is one of the statutory objectives of the ICGEB. The scientific and technical know-how generated by the Centre in various areas of biotechnology has significant potential in contributing towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Technology transfer is a complex process, where the outcome of scientific research is further developed with a market driven approach. Within this process the most complex and critical phase is proof of concept, when TRL goes from 3 to 5. Venture capital is commonly believed to be the financial tool for such a process, however it is specifically suitable for already developed startup companies and the earliest stages of development are supported by other financial means. Furthermore, financial resources alone do not guarantee a successful growth of a spin-off companies and a wider set of tools should be considered whenever engaging in entrepreneurial path out of research.
