Since we last spoke, the Red Sox beat the Yankees in the AL Wild Card game then they knocked off the Rays in four games in the ALDS. Now, they meet the Astros in the ALCS for a spot in the World Series. Does Boston have a chance to pull off another upset? The MLB regular season ended on Sunday with the Red Sox in position as the top AL Wild Card team with the Yankees right behind them (same record but Boston owned the tiebreaker). Those teams will meet on Tuesday night (8:08, ESPN) at Fenway Park. NESN.com's Lauren Campbell and I tell you all you need to know heading into what should be an awesome game for baseball.

It has all come down to this for the Red Sox: three games at the Orioles and three games at the Nationals to determine whether they will make the AL Wild Card game or not. The Red Sox only have 14 games left in the regular season and who knows how it will end: 1) they could host the Wild Card game, 2) they could travel somewhere for the Wild Card game or 3) they could miss the playoffs entirely. It's been a few weeks since we last taped a show and oh boy, have we missed a crazy time for the Red Sox filled with a legitimate Covid-19 outbreak, some awful losses and a few good wins as well. Do they have what it takes to hold on and reach the postseason? And if they do, who will they play in the Wild Card game-the Yankees or somebody else (Blue Jays, Mariners or A's)?

It's been a week for the Red Sox: a disastrous sweep at the hands of the Yankees in the Bronx nearly followed by a series loss to the hideous Rangers at Fenway. Thankfully, Boston salvaged a little dignity with this afternoon's 8-4 victory in 11 innings on Travis Shaw's walk-off grand slam! Haha how 2021 of them. It's amazing what facing a Triple A team for a three-game series can do for an MLB club. Thanks to a sweep of the hapless Orioles, things are looking up for the Red Sox. This week, NESN.com's Lauren Campbell and I talk about all the reasons that Boston went 4-2 last week & remain tied with Oakland for a Wild Card spot. They have a key three-game set in the Bronx starting with a day/night doubleheader tomorrow then a cushy three-game series vs. the Rangers at Fenway.

NESN.com's Lauren Campbell and I picked a hell of a time to take a week off since the Red Sox have been in complete free-fall mode since the last time that we talked here. Can their season be salvaged or do they have too many issues to overcome at this point? Chris Sale is set to return on Saturday against the Orioles, no pressure or anything.

Coming off an eventful 5-1 week (2-0 vs. Toronto & 3-1 vs. Yankees), there is plenty to talk about involving the Red Sox who have the best record in the AL and the second best mark in MLB behind San Francisco. This afternoon, red-hot utilityman Kike Hernandez was named the AL Player of the Week and tonight, Boston kicks off a four-game series at Fenway vs. the Jays. Later this week, they have three very important games at Tampa Bay which could go a long way to determining who wins the AL East in 2021. Also, the MLB trade deadline is on Friday at 4 pm, so what if anything do we expect the Sox to do?

It was a four-game series against the Yankees that turned into three weird games (thanks Covid) but there were still plenty of interesting things that happened particularly in the last two-both Red Sox losses. Where do they go from here as their lead in the AL East is down to half a game over Tampa Bay? Lauren and I look back at the past weekend along with another busy week: three games in Buffalo vs. Toronto then back to Fenway for a four-game set vs. the Yanks.

While MLB is off for a few days, there are still plenty of interesting storylines involving the Sox, the All-Star Game, Home Run Derby, MLB Draft and the trade deadline. What more could you ask for as we give you a little more content since there won't be an actual MLB game again until Thursday night (Red Sox at Yankees)?
