Awareness is key to understanding ourselves and making peace with the traumas or losses that we go through. You take a step closer to yourself every time you try to understand your own emotions and reactions. In our lifetime, we all experience loss one way or the other. We lose friends, lovers or loved ones. Hell, some of us even lose old versions of ourselves for all the good reasons. The waves of emotions you feel right after a breakup, or your last day at work all seem relevant and can be experienced differently by everyone. In this episode, I introduce myself as the host of Heart of Glass (Waffle the cat as co-host) and talk briefly about the five stages of grief that will be discussed in depth on the rest of the episodes (among other things). Why is it difficult to just believe our harsh reality as it is ?   In this episode, I discuss denial as one of the stages of grieving. And how denial works for us and also possibly against us while dealing with difficult or even traumatic losses.

Dealing with anger after a sudden loss can feel very disorienting. In this episode, I discuss how anger feels during the grieving process, where it stems from and how to deal with it.  🥊

How do we negotiate during the grieving process ? Bargaining is a tug of war between our attachment to the situation and our need to let go, knowing full well it’s over. 

  Engaging in new and different activities could be helpful in generating new neurological pathways in the brain. This does change the way you’re thinking, it’s not just the passing of time that helps us forget, but the coping mechanisms that we develop along the way.

Acceptance is not getting over them, it’s about regaining a sense of connection to the memories with the person or phase of life, without being in denial about the loss itself.

Loss cannot be avoided, unless you choose a life with no love or any type of fulfillment. It is a necessary component of life. “The grief that comes with loss is how we experience the depths of our love, and love takes many forms in this life.” - This episode concludes the first season of Heart of Glass about the grieving process.
