#28 [EN] Managing AI wisely : Artificial Intelligence and Ethics, Lauren WAARDENBURG, Information System professor, IÉSEG
2022/06/15
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being rapidly introduced into the workplace, creating debate around what it means for our work and organizations.   Vastly implemented already in Banks for fraud, civil protection for security, it relies on huge quantities of data. Will AI be present in all companies in the near future? Is it desirable?  Lauren Waardenburg is an assistant professor of information systems at IÉSEG School of Management. She based her research on AI and the future of work, and wrote the book “Managing AI Wisely: From Development to Organizational Change in Practice” along with two coauthors.   Together, we explore the big questions of AI development:   What are the implications of AI development for the organization of traditional companies?  What are the ethics limits of AI? Are we able to control them? The very intrinsic nature of AI is to learn by itself on data-based iteration: how to cope with AI when they are no longer understandable?  We also tackle what Lauren calls “extreme contexts” where the line is blurred when it comes to AI and data usage, as well as the part AI could play in transforming our society, for a better future.

#26 [EN] Helping consumers make informed healthy eating decisions, Nico HEUVINCK, IÉSEG, Professor
2022/05/16
Nico is an expert in consumer behavior and investigates at IÉSEG various consumer psychology related phenomena such as consumer lay beliefs in healthy food decision-making.    It is the topic of today’s episode!   After having spent a few years on the business side – understanding “how to trick the consumer” – he decided to help consumers realize how they are influenced and therefore make better decisions when buying a product.    Only 15% of our food choices are conscious: this gives a pretty good measure of the importance of getting to know what influences us.    Most of this marketing is done in order to increase profit: packaging colors, textures, recycled or virgin, and more. For example, we are more inclined to perceive a product in a recycled packaging as healthier. Which makes no sense.    So how do we rely on much more factual information?   Have a listen to become more conscious!

#24 [EN] Different approaches to Leadership, Gouri MOHAN, Professor in Leadership & HRM, IÉSEG
2022/04/15
Gouri Mohan, after a few years as an HR Manager at Coca-Cola, went back to her first love – research. She is currently a Professor at IÉSEG and teaches leadership and international human resources.     What if leadership was not a trait of personality but something that exists in relationships among people? If so, who is a leader? What is a leader?    Leadership is expressed in the way we influence people, and is not present in all relationships we share, at all times. It's not a set nature of relationships. In that way, we are all leaders at some point, in some relationships, on some topics.   We also go through some of the biases we have when we think of perfect leadership, associated with dominance or power; and through differences in the way we assess leadership in various cultures.   This episode is a must-listen!   Have a great listening

#18 [EN] Changing the rules from the inside: responsible finance with Maël Lagadec, Grande École 2012
2022/01/17
Financial markets are often seen as the bad side of the economy and in 2008, we had proof that it has the power to damage the economy. Responsible finance is taking into account sustainability-related information to make decision through finance in order to invest differently. Needless to say, it is becoming a real trend.   According to Maël Lagadec, there are two approaches:   - Value-driven approach (refusing to finance certain types of activities)   - Risks and opportunities approach   Maël is a manager at Sustainalytics , an ESG research provider. They analyze qualitatively and quantitatively the sustainability performance and risk exposure of companies listed globally, in order for banks and investors to make better investment decisions.    A really inspiring episode of Changemaker stories which will help you understand a complex and usually over-simplified topic.       Have a great listening!
